1. This essay suggests that an "American Idiot" is a perosn that relies on the media and gives into emotional tactics. For example, someone who pledges allegiance before they understand much of anything about America. It is somebody who just does what everybody else is doing.

2. An example of contextual analysis is when you were describing the cover of the album and how the music within inspired your emotions. "Widely considered one of the best anti-war protests of 2004, the album came complete with the picture of a hand gripping a bloody heart-shaped grenade. While the cover gave me an idea for one of the shoot's best photos, it was the music within that gave voice to my anger and consoled my relentlessness, assuring me that I wasn't the only one that believed so passionately that our country was on the wrong track." (page 1, paragraph 4)
An example of textual analysis is when you analyzed the term "Redneck Agenda" that had been previously mentioned in the essay. "The 'Redneck Agenda' might also be referring to another favorite punching bag that Armstrong hits in many other songs on the album (most notibly 'Jesus of Suburbia'), the religious right wing of the conservative party." (page 4, paragraph 1)
An example of word analysis is when you analyzed the word, "faggot". "while the word 'faggot' is a slang, derogatory term for a homosexual, it has also been used to define anyone who refuses to fight or be 'manly'". (page 3, paragraph 3)
An example of a sentence analysis is when you analyzed a line in the song. "With this in mind, the line in the song, 'One nation controlled by the media,' an obvious reference to the pledge, can be brough into connection with both the 'Redneck agenda' and the 'Ages of paranoia.'" (page 4, paragraph 3)

3. I liked the introduction. I didn't know where it was leading to at first, but I understood as I read, and it fit…...

American Idiot Review

...The Broadway show American Idiot takes its audience on a journey through the trials and tribulations of 3 young men growing up in America saturated in media and unsure of just who they truly are. The musical is an extravagant display of visual media, dazzling the viewers and leaving them wondering how to divide their attention among all the different things happening on stage. However, despite this strength, the show lacks character development as well as sufficient plot motivation. The plot of the show is easy enough to describe. Three boys, dissatisfied with their humdrum suburban existence decide to hit the road and find something out there more exciting than their hometown. However, Will (Michael Esper), one of the boys is sidetracked when his girlfriend Heather (Mary Faber) informs him that she is pregnant with his child. The other two boys, Johnny (the main character, played by John Gallagher, Jr.) and Tunny (Stark Sands) leave Will behind and head off to make their way in the world. Soon Tunny enlists in the army, and Johnny gets hooked on heroin, creating an alter ego named St. Jimmy (Tony Vincent). As the show goes on, Johnny falls for a woman named Whatshername (Rebecca Naomi Jones), but their relationship is destroyed by St. Jimmy, or his addiction. Tunny loses his leg in battle, but gains love in the form of a woman named The Extraordinary Girl (Christina Sajous). Heather gives birth, but ends up leaving Will due to his alcoholism and general apathy.......

Tv and Idiots

...Does TV make you smarter or are you idoit in the box? Television has been around since the 1920s transmitting and receiving images. Over the years TV has marked its way through our lives. Majority of Americans have a more than one TV and DVD player in their home. How has TV evolved since the 1920’s? Has TV now changed the way we act and live as human beings? Does television now make us smarter than it did in early 1920s or has it made us idiots and less intelligent? Steven Johnson a writer who published his article in new time magazines called watching TV makes your smarter? Dana Stevens, a movie critic also written for the New York times; responded to Steven Johnson article by calling thinking outside the idiot box. Steven believes that TV makes us more intelligent while Dana Steven argues that TV doesn’t enhance our brains we shouldn’t base our lives around the television set. Johnson states that watching shows like “24″ make people smarter, because it makes them think about certain events that had occurred and it makes the audience think critically while watching. The show also suggest, the exact opposite is happening: the culture is getting more cognitively demanding, not less.”(Johnson 279) The sleep curve says Steven Johnson, is the single most important new force altering mental development of today, and I believe it is largely a force of good: enhancing our cognitive brains, not dumbing them down.(Johnson 291). Johnson also states that bad TV, like......

A Review of 'an Idiot Abroad'

...An Idiot Abroad The Travel Diaries of Karl Pilkington Publisher: Canongate Year: 2011 Number of Pages: 225 Genre: Comedy ‘An Idiot Abroad – The Travel Diaries of Karl Pilkington’ is a written accompaniment to the hit television series ‘An Idiot Abroad’. The book not only re-tells the TV series, but also sports new, unseen parts from the series and offers a fresh, simple perspective on the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’. I think it’s reasonable to say that those who find themselves reading this book will have seen the Sky1 series, ‘An Idiot Abroad’ of which this book accompanies and thus, not much of an introduction to Karl is required. However for the purpose of this review, Karl Pilkington is an English television personality, actor, author and former radio producer. Karl met Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (Whom sent him on his travels) through gaining prominence as the producer of their show on XFM. Karl tends to be the butt of Ricky’s practical jokes. The book begins with an illustrated conversation between Ricky and Steve that was filmed for the TV series and sets up the entire premise of the project. The book comprises of seven chapters, each consisting of one visit to a ‘wonder’. Countries visited in the book are: China, Jordan, India, Egypt, Peru, Brazil and Mexico. The chapters are presented in chronological order which differs from the show, but makes sense from a narrative point of view as you see Karl’s attitude to each trip change. He goes from careful......

Resensi 3 Idiots

Cast and Crew of 3 Idiots

... Anubha Bang To: Cast and Crew of 3 Idiots and Chetan Bhagat Re: Story Credit Row 3 Idiots is the highest grossing box office hit in India’s movie history. To date, the film has collected USD 60M worldwide from theatrical ticket sales. But, 3 Idiots is better known for the story credit controversy that surrounded its release in December 2010 than the actual content of the movie. The author of the book Five Point Someone, from which the movie is allegedly adapted, has accused the makers of the film from denying him due credit. This is a classic problem in the Indian movie industry where unknown writers are pushed over by more financially secure directors and producers. However, in this unique case, the author Chetan Bhagat was a celebrity in his own right and had enough public support to take the makers of the film to task. The book had been on the bestseller lists for more than 18 months and had almost half a million readers before the movie came out. Thus, public sentiment was in the author’s favor and when the producer on one incident lost his cool and yelled at assembled journalists, the media sentiment shifted in the author’s favor too. This memo outlines the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation behind the actions of each party involved. Self-Justification, Cheating and Abuse of Power by Makers of 3 Idiots After having legally bought the rights to adapt the novel into a movie, the producer and director of 3 Idiots assumed total ownership of the creative......

Generation of Idiots

...negatives effects of the internet. The internet has changed humanity no doubt about it. Some people might use it to learn new things that will positively further their knowledge, while others choose to commit frowned upon acts, and corrupt themselves. Pornographic material easily accessible to any curious child or teen with internet access can lead them down the path of corruption. Pornographic material and similar explicit content available on the internet tend to degrade humanity. Almost any song or movie you can think of can easily be pirated from the internet, making protecting copyright almost impossible. Albert Einstein once said “I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots”, this quote is so precise, and it scares me. The internet is a great place for one to learn how to write an essay, but also the perfect place for someone to plagiarize someone else’s. Plagiarism and pirating copyrighted material cause very negative outcomes, this could ruin one’s reputation, or even worst, get them locked up in federal prison with 500,000 dollars bail (Pirating). P2P sharing sites like thepiratesbay, and kissasstorrents have successfully been taken down by the CIA, they are slowly cracking down on such websites while they remain lenient on the pornography websites corrupting our youth. With pornography being easily accessible and only a couple clicks away, an addicted user will see it as a new pack of cigarettes in......

Movie Analysis - Three Idiots

...MOVIE ANALYSIS THREE IDIOTS Entertaining, funny, tearjerker, inspirational, mind-boggling, intriguing, realistic, name it - anything you would want from a great movie, Three Idiots definitely got it all. The movie basically features the lives of three college students during and after college and how the educational system works in India. I would like to share my point of view or analysis of the film based on some of the remarkable lines from the movie itself: 1. "And this is a college, not a pressure cooker. The lion in a circus learns that he needs to sit on the chair if his owner has a whip in his hand. But that lion is called well-trained, not well-educated." - Rancho - True enough, this describes how much pressure, every college student has to deal with in order to meet their professors' high standards and accustomed school curriculum. The essence and joy of learning are being overlooked coz the students tend to be too bookish, go with the flow, say yes to everything the teacher has to say to make sure they get high or passing grades. To me, grades are just numbers and should never define one's knowledge and abilities. 2. "Make your passion your profession. So it will not be work but play." - Rancho - It's your life, your choice. Never let anyone dictate you on what you're going to do with your life coz we only got one. Most especially in choosing a course or career you'd want to take. Yes, you might wanna consult your parents and ask their opinion but...

Analysis of Three Idiots

...1. Describe the system of education in the movie. To be able to fully describe the system of education in the movie “The Three Idiots”, one must know the educational system being implemented by the Indian government. Although some states in India have already used modern teaching methods such as creative learning by Howard Garner, Modern education in India is often criticized for being based on rote learning rather than problem solving. The system of education in the movie is Authoritarian because the teacher, in this case the university professor, is the law and the only authority in the process of learning inside the classroom. It is also is based on the Traditional Method because it emphasizes rote learning which was already replaced by other more effective teaching methods because of its limitation in developing higher learning skills in students. Instances in the movie have shown how the emphasis in rote learning has stifled the students’ full comprehension of a theory that also hampered the development of their creative abilities because they must always follow what is being prescribed them by their mentors. Insubordination will mean being rusticated from the school system. With this fact, it is no surprise that this dysfunctional engineering school system portrayed in the movie, pressures huge numbers of students into suicide. 2. Describe the main characters in the movie. ( at least five ) a. Aamir Khan as Ranchhoddas "Rancho" Shamaldas......

3 Idiots

...3 Idiots is an Indian comedy movie with a great message, directed by Rajkumar Hirani in 2009. I like this movie because the message they conveyed through this film. The education system in India is very strict and with strict I don’t mean that by school rules; I mean the level of judging according to the book knowledge. One played the famous Indian actor, Amir Khan the main character, with other famous co-actors. The film also won Film Fare Award at 6th position and also best director award. The idea behind this movie was to highlight the mentality of the educated people in India, especially if they are on higher position then how badly they want their kids to be on top of everything. The competition is very tough and its all about to make proud of your parents as it doesn’t matter what children want to do with their career life. Now in these days, competition is so hard that kids don’t want to understand things and logic behind their work, all they want is to cram so they can do best on their exams and beat other kids. In this movie, the main character, Amir Khan conveyed the message that getting good grades on the exam doesn’t mean excellent academic standing. In the film, there was one incidence where one boy committed suicide because he was not qualified to sit for final exams, as he didn’t pass the pre-engineering exam because he was working on his project where he was using his knowledge instead of cramming book definitions. The dean of the university was very hard to......

The Three Idiots

...AB Psychology August 24, 2011 The Three Idiots 1. How does the movie relate to the management principle of leading and controlling? Rancho in this movie is a perfect example of a leader. He succeeded in influencing and motivating his two friends to follow their dreams. He does not impose it to any of them but instead he walk his talk. He makes it a point to understand their personalities, attitudes, and emotions and he attacked the situation considering all of these factors. Farhan pursued his dream and became successful on this field. Raju, on the other hand, developed self trust and worth and was able to get a good job With regards to control, the fact that in the end of the story, Rancho was able to smoothly run a school carrying his principles and ideas of learning only meant that he is an effective leader. Even in the “giving birth” scene, Rancho was in full control of the situation. He was able to give directions to everybody and everybody followed. The College (ICE) also, even traditional, could have control standards based on their own qualifications. They succeeded in imposing strict control on the students as evidenced by the prestige that they were able to built. 2. Relate the movie in terms of career management, or choice of career after college. The movie points out very well the primary thing to consider in choosing a career in College as enacted in the sequence...

...understanding and applying the concepts. He believes that one should follow excellence, not success, as success will come by itself if excellence is followed. However, this different approach is sneered upon by the faculties, including the dean of the college, Professor Viru "Virus" Sahastrabudhhe (Boman Irani). In contrast, Virus' favorite student, Chatur "Silencer" Ramalingam, (Omi Vaidya) believes in mindless memorizing over understanding, in order to reach his goals of corporate and social status. Meanwhile, Rancho falls in love with Virus' medical student daughter Pia (Kareena Kapoor) when he, Raju and Farhan accidentally crash her sister's wedding banquet to obtain a free meal, which infuriates Virus. Virus labels Rancho and his friends as "idiots" and continually attempts to break Rancho's friendship with Farhan and Raju. Things further escalate when the three friends drunkenly break into Virus's house one night to allow Rancho to confess his love to Pia, and urinate on the front door before fleeing. The next day, Virus threatens to rusticate Raju unless he squeals on Rancho. Not wanting to betray his friend or let down his family, Raju attempts suicide and ends up in a coma. However, with two months of extensive care from his mother, Rancho, Farhan, and Pia, he makes a full recovery. Following his hard-won recovery, Raju discards his fear of the future. Encouraged by Rancho, both Raju and Farhan gain courage to do what they were afraid to do before. Raju takes a......

3 Idiots: Reaction Paper

...3 Idiots: Reaction Paper 3 Idiots is a story of true friendship, leadership and fulfilment of dreams. This is one of the best movies I have seen. I gained a lot of lessons in this masterpiece. This is a quite long movie yet worthwhile. Rancho, one of the main characters in the movie, is undeniably a great person, a great friend, a great leader and a great student. Though he did nasty things, he still done it for a good purpose. He never thought of his own sake. He was never selfish. He possesses a lot of qualities of an effective leader. Because of his principles in life, he was able to set the lives of the people around him. The part of the movie that really amazed me is the moment wherein they have to perform a vacuum delivery. Rancho really did well in making the students coordinate and make the delivery successful. That was really stunning This just crossed my mind, if all people will be like Rancho, I guess the whole world will be better but I know it will be hard because ‘Chatur’ and ‘Virus’ exist in real world. They represent the challenges all people are facing every day. They also represent those people who will do everything just to let you down. Competition is very usual in every field of life but everyone can be Rancho. We should just have a concrete vision enclosed with competency and a strong desire of reaching every goal you have set. “Make your passion your profession” is one the quote from the movie that really marked on my mind. You can’t accomplish...
