Introduction of Myself
ENG100 B84
February 18, 2014 I am in my first semester here at Midlands Technical College. I am enrolled in Reading 100 with Charles Washington and English 100 with you. In this memo I am going to give you insight on my background, interests, achievements and goals.
•Background
I was born in Columbia, South Carolina in 1991. I have lived here all 23 years of my life. I currently live at home with both my parents. I have an older brother and a younger sister who also live at home. I attended public schools my entire life. At the age of 18 I dropped out of Spring Valley High School. I later enrolled myself in night classes to acquire my GED through W.R. Rogers Adult Education Center. I received my GED in November of 2012. At that point in my life I had no interest in furthering my education. I worked part time jobs here and there. I always thought of school as an option and never took it seriously. I was easily influenced by people who I called friends. I did my thing from the age of 18 till I was 21 years old. The biggest influence on my life throughout that time was my best friend Rebecca. We had some great times together and what she did, I did. I have always followed in her footsteps and never made a path of my own. We didn’t uplift each other in any aspect. So you could say we weren’t good for each other. In February of 2013 we ended our friendship for good. Although it was tough for me considering we had been friends for 12 years, it was the best thing for me. I gained a whole new set of friends. These friends motivated me to be a better person, to go after the things that I want in my life and to do things that were going to give me a better chance at becoming what I wanted to in life. This is why I am currently enrolled at Midlands Tech and why I am on the roll for your class. Without the motivation from these friends and the help of my family I would still be following the footsteps of the wrong type of people.
•Interest
I enjoy helping people to the best of my ability, making people happy and giving people advice to the best of my knowledge on the situation. Since I enjoy these things my major is Human Services. I have the desire to become a Social Worker. I plan on getting my Associates in Science here at Midlands Tech, then later transferring to a 4 year college to obtain a Masters in Social Work. There are many things you can do as a Social Worker. My desire is to work in the Child Welfare department. Child Welfare Social Workers provide services to children who are abused and neglected by their parents or to children from lower-income families who cannot afford to properly care for them. I have an interest in this as a career because I enjoy helping others. I also like children, but not enough to be a teacher so I put the two together and feel like this is a good field for me to go into where I can work with two things that I enjoy. •Achievements I have achieved many things in my life. Some achievements were bigger than others, but still give me satisfaction.
‒ In my 9th grade year I competed on Spring Valley’s swim team
‒ I have gotten my driver’s license
‒ I got my first job my tenth grade year
‒ Passed my GED test after 5 tries
‒ Enrolled in college at the age of 22
•Goals
My goal for this semester is to not only do well in both of my courses. I want to be able to learn the information that I am taught. I want to be able to use what I learn in each class to help me in my future classes so that I can become a better student . In this class I would like to build my writing skills and become a stronger writer. I can’t wait to see what I learn from you during this 10 weeks course

...exclusive knowledge about their own DNA. It seems to be a seductive offer. If you someday feel sick ore wonder why Brussels Sprouts don’t appeal to you, DNA will give you the answer. This kind of insight will make you able to look into your future! Or at least; your expected future. DNA doesn’t tell you when you will die, and not from which cause either. It only tells you what chances there is for you getting a curtain decease. Some health care providers argue that the public is unprepared for such information. They don’t mean that people will be able to handle information telling them things about their health, that they might not want to know. They suggest an expert to help put it in context. Amy Harmon, writer of the article “Me Genome – Myself” finds such information addicting. Every time she feels like something is wrong with her body, she will have a morbid urge to check her DNA. She also argues that it can be abused. Mostly by insurance companies. If all people had a file about their genomes, it would mean that an insurance company would be able to use the information about their genes against them. If your genes for instance showed that you had a great chance of getting heart deceases, they would probably deny assuring you. She also talks about, not wanting to know about her daughters DNA, and which deceases she might has passed on to her. Besides, she also believes that no matter what your DNA tells about you and your skills, it shouldn’t stop you from......

Me Myself and My Future

...Actually, at this moment, I cannot seen myself 5 years from now, because I’m not expecting the better or best life in future. Cause for me, before you reach your dreams you have to work hard to fulfil your dreams, but hopefully I can get my dreams in a fastest way and in good way without stepping someone. After a few years I can see myself in the ship, navigating the ship at the oceans and travel all around the world. I know at this stage of my college life is the one of the hardest thing, because you are far from your family, and you have to work for your own life, I didn’t expect that this moment I can manage myself good, because at my high school life is different at this moment cause in high school you can be free at all times and there is a parent who can guide you and accept you even you gave them many problems. On high school there is parents wash your clothes, preparing your meal and etc. this moment that I am studying here at MPFC, this is my stepping stone to achieve my goal and dreams. After 5 years from now I can see myself at a ship or a luxury ship or a big ship meeting different types of person. I can see myself successful, helping my family and others. I can see myself a great man serving other people, I can see myself enjoying my life, I can see myself a inspiration to others that they can tell he or I a successful man. Life is too short so enjoy it. As you waste your breathe complaining about life, someone out there is breathing their last. Appreciate what......

Myself

...blissful. My family and I settled in the U.S when I was 16. My life went through a different path, childhood memories ended; it’s time to adapt and overcome, to make a new life. Upon setting into my new home in the US. I enrolled in high school. I got stuck in language barrier, even though I have studied English in Vietnam. Initially everything was somewhat obscure, dark, and I struggled with English class. I was fearful of approaching others due to my language deficiencies. I thought if I could speak English, I would not seethe with anger whenever someone openly mocked me, responding with a bowed head or a fake smile. However, I didn't want my parents’ sacrifice to go in vain. Failure is not an option, so I tried harder to persevere over that challenges such as studying, speaking without fear, reading more books and learning more from failure. I never let the fact that I am new to this language stop me. I want to be able to show family that I can be the person they always believed me to be. I’m really proud of myself because I will be the first generation in my family to graduate from high school and go on to college. Thankfully, I did well and overcame the difficulties in school. I realized that I was forged from a sense of responsibility efficiency in my learning and work. The pursuit of education has opened many paths for me and I have to improvise, adapt to the best of my ability. My parents sacrificed most of their life just for my future, and now I believe it is my......

Growing up in a country where a lot of people disliked American's was not easy I did not fit in very well and go into a lot of fights with other kids especially some Vietnamese kids I went to school with after making the mistake of telling someone my father was a veteran or the Vietnam war. I was an average student and disliked school in Canada. I felt the schools there laked a sense of spirit compared to schools in the united states there were never any clubs or groups no prep rallies or home coming dances or things of that nature it was more like an institution. I never felt like I fit in living in Canada I was the only Treichler in the entire country and I had no sense of real family or knowing where I came from. ...My name is Maisara but I'd like to be called as Sara. I'm 29 years old and a married woman. I'm the second child and the only girl among my 3 brothers in my nuclear family. I'm very closed with my parents and all of my siblings especially with my youngest brother since he lived with me and my husband. I think my family tree is unique because I have a cross-cultural extended family. I have uncles and aunts (from my father side) with a different religious beliefs and cultures which are Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and Pagan. Therefore, we always had a great time gathering together especially when it comes to a festival and celebration days like on Eid Al-Fitr, Christmas, Chinese New Year, Diwali and wedding ceremonies as well. In fact, this is a common situation in my country especially in my home town. Malaysia actually has two regions which are Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo (also known as East Malaysia) and they're separated by South China Sea. I live in Sabah which is situated in Borneo. In my country, Sabah is also known as ‘A Land below the Wind'. We have several of mountains along with a green mountain ranges and natural lifes. We also have lots of beautiful island and white sandy beaches along our coast. It's a right destination for people who love snorkeling or scuba diving. I also love to watch film, listen to music or visiting to my sibling's house in my spare time. Other than that, I love to travel as well. My husband and I always spend our holidays...

Be Myself

...only thing in my head was how huge the plane was, and how small our house was compared to the one we had back home. The first day in school was a shock. I hadn’t seen so much diversity in one area before. Then came the comments and misinterpreted information that came from the students, which hit me off balance. This was a shock to me hearing all these rumors and stereotypes about where I had come from. “Do you live in a hut? How do you hunt lions? Or can you catch a cheetah?” I had no idea how to take this in. I was confused. I questioned myself with the same questions. Do I really hunt lions? I came home and I told my mom what had happened at school and all of the comments the kids made. I was surprised at her reaction. She laughed and smiled at me, repeating the same questions in a humorous matter. She then kissed me on the head and told me it would be okay and that they’re just curious. Years passed and I was middle school. The comments and stereotypes intensified. At this point I had to go with the flow and entertain the people and agree with the fact that I hunt lions and run down cheetahs, with the intent to shut them up. It backfired, they took my sarcasm as the truth and that was a negative influence in my life. I had a passive nature and the lack of confidence in middle school. My peers took advantage of my kindness. Their brutal word that made all my peers laugh, and made my already sore heart burst in tears in which overflows and come out of my eyes. I was......

My Community, My Country, Myself

...My Community, My Country, Myself ETH 125 June 29, 2014 Anna Geletka In Northwest Ohio sits, a small town in Anycounty County called Anytown. With approximately 492, people within a half a mile space Anytown is just a small part of the nineteen miles of Hancock County. Within our little town, we are lucky enough to have many city amenities like a family owned market with full service butchers, a salon, a couple restaurants, a bar and a gas station. Along with an outstanding park with a hill for sledding down in the winter, a pool for swimming during the summer and ball fields for baseball/softball season. However, our small town is very short on racial diversity. Our town has 492 people in our town and our racial make-up is 98.2% white and 1.6% African American and 2.6% Hispanic. (http://factfinder2.census.gov/) Of the 183 homes in our town, 73.2% are homes with homeowner living in them and 26.8% are occupied rental units bringing transits into our area on a regular basis-leaving door open for expansion of diversifying the opportunities in our community. Diversity is short in our little town as you can see by the numbers. I believe this is true because the majority of citizens from our town have lived here for generations upon generations. I can attest to this particular statement because my significant other was born and raised around here and his parents were also born and raised around here. His parents lived in the same house 56 years before they were......

...Recently I found myself at a crossroad in life. I needed to evaluate what I really wanted to accomplish and why. This paper will discuss my personal goals as they apply to my educational career, finaical goals, carrerr, goals Returning to college, as a working adult, is a challenge for anyone. Up to this point, I had been successful obtaining positions that would normally require a bachelor degree. I was able to prove I was suitable for management positions in various capacities simply with hard work and perseverance. It had become much more competitive than I ever had known. However, this presented me with the opportunity to pursue my newfound interests. ...About Me My name is Nur Nabilah Aidil Bt Sulaiman. I was born on 26 February 1996 in Ampang, Selangor. Currently, I am doing bachelor in event management in Management and Science University (MSU). In my family, made up of my father, mother and a little brother. My interest is singing. When I sing I feel as if my whole soul is flying in the air, with the music. During my life, I had some accomplishments. The greatest event was when they call my team up to get the trophy. Winning first place for a cheerleading competition is an amazing experience. Preparing for competition is easier said than done, you need a passion to complete the task. Competition is extremely stressful, but amazing at the same time. It is a lot of hard work, but if you try your hardest, make all the practices and have a passion for cheerleading its worth it. Having practice five times a week allows us to work on our jumps, cheers, dances, tumbling, and the most difficult, stunting. The counts and lifting people in the air is traumatic enough, but repeating it over and over again it gets strenuous. At last we had brought all our practicing skills into work at the final stages. After working hard for three solid months it all paid off, the competing mat was beneath our feet. It was hard leaving my team and going to a new school. In life, there are some trials that make me stronger. I never thought much about it myself, until I was faced with the shock, and undeniable truth of my cousin's death. I......

...Doan UFDN 3001 Laura Holmes April 4, 2016 Paper 1 My name is Tien and I’m from Vietnam. At this moment, there are two biggest religions dominate my country: Buddhism and Christian. Although these two religions are different, the people from both of them are friendly to each other. Buddhism is from Asia long time ago and is one of the main religion in South East Asia. I don’t know much about Buddhism so I’m going to stop there. On the other hand, Christian is not from any countries in Asia. Vietnam has been influenced Christian’ beliefs from the western countries, especially from France and America. I am Christian and so is my family. Although I am Christian, I’m not currently on the spiritual journey. In the past, I used to go to the church every Sunday and do the cross sign before every meal. However, as I grow up, I don’t really see the world at this way anymore. It doesn’t mean that I am quitting my religion. I just don’t do any of those things anymore as I think it’s not necessary. I guess the main reason what I am believing in today is because of knowledge and science. Right now, I just try to be a good man. Since I was a kid, my family has been taking me to the church every Sunday and praying to God at night before bed time. So they were the most religious people that I’ve been influenced in my life. I remember there was one Sunday that my Dad took me to the church near our house. I think I......

I chose to get my degree online because I work 2 jobs to support myself since I have neither of my parents and I’ve had to raise myself. The reason that I’m trying to get my degree is for my older brother to be proud of me he is the one person that has showed me that it can be done being a sergeant in the army and recent grad from college with his new profession of a police officer showed me that it can be done, and as he said himself it can be done. I also chose it so I can be a role model to my 14 year old brother and we can lead him to the right path. I currently work at a pharmacy and in the day I take care of my nieces but I will be starting to work at a hospital as a patient access representative.
