BAB I
Seorang pengagum. Ia menarik napas panjang apabila menyaksikan pemandangan yang indah. Jiwanya bergetar memandangi matahari terbenam di Indonesia. Ia menangis dikala menyanyikan lagu spirituil orang negro.

Ansel Adams

...Ansel Adams was a masterful photographer and a lifelong conservationist (a person who works to preserve and protect the environment) who encouraged understanding of, and respect for, the natural environment. Although he spent a large part of his career in commercial photography, he is best known for his photographs of landscapes. Ansel Easton Adams, the only child of Charles Hitchcock and Olive Adams, was born on February 20, 1902, in San Francisco, California, near the Golden Gate Bridge. In 1906 an aftershock from the famous earthquake of that year threw him to the floor and gave him a badly broken nose. His father, a successful businessman who owned an insurance agency and a chemical factory, sent him to private, as well as public, schools. Adams was shy and self-conscious about his nose and had problems in school. He received only an eighth-grade education, preferring to learn mainly through following his own interests. From a young age he enjoyed the outdoors, taking many long walks and exploring. At the age of twelve Adams taught himself to play the piano and read music. Soon after, he began lessons and for the next twelve years he studied piano, intending to make his living as a concert pianist. However, at a family trip to Yosemite National Park in 1916, he made his first amateur photos with Kodak Brownie box camera, is said to have determined his direction in life. The next year, Adams returned to Yosemite with a better camera and a tripod. That winter, he worked......

Adam and Eve Not Adam and Steve

...Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve Gay marriage Some may believe that gay marriage isn’t morally wrong; while mainly strong biblical based Christians (the opposing side) states it is; I am for the opposing side. The policy should not be changed in the states that are against gay marriage, and define marriage as between one man and one woman. In the other states and countries, the legalization of gay marriage still exists. Something should be done about this. Homosexuality is considered an Abomination My first argument is coming from Leviticus 20:13, where it states “a man shall not lie with another man as he would with a woman, and if he does, this act will be considered an abomination in the eyes of God.” When God uses the word “abomination” to describe this specific sin, he is using the strongest and most intense word that He can possibly use to describe what He really thinks about this particular sin. Homosexuality is not what God intended while creating this earth and its people. He created Adam, He then created Eve Male and Female he created them. When God created this earth, and then Adam, he then created a partner for him; he created Eve, not another Adam. This means that perfect partnership requires some level of difference as well as similarity so great to the point that Adam could cry out loudly, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh”. Sexual intimacy between a man and a woman is the normal method of male and female bonding......

He was born in Brooklyn,New york on September 9,1966 to Jewish parents. When he was a teenager he nurtured his talent by performing regularly in clubs and on campuses. Good to know is that he was at NYU, because later in his career he used a lot experiences for material for his comedy. For example in the song "Lunchlady Land" he sings about the lunch lady from the NYU. While he was a student at the NYU and performing on stages he was also auditioning for TV roles. In 1984 he finally got his first role on "The Cosby Show" and after that he got the chance to show his talent for creating memorable comedic characters on MTV's game show which was called "Remote Control". Then 1990 when he was 23 he auditioned with a little stand up comedy with his friend Chris Rock in Chicago for the show, his friend was hired a performer and Adam was hired a writer for Saturday night live. Adam and Eve or Adam and Steve

...Devin Brumfield Maldonado/Period5 English 2 5 November 2013 Adam and Eve…or Adam and Steve? The following is a persuasive essay that argues two points: whether same-sex marriage is wrong and whether it is not. Before this essay is started out, here are a few interesting facts on homosexuality and same-sex marriage. The Netherlands was the first nation to legalize same sex marriage (in 2001). Same sex marriage is outlawed in 76 countries as of 2013. These are just a few out of the ma ny facts about homosexuality/same-sex marriage. This essay has several key points to why same-sex marriage is okay. Same sex marriage/attraction is not a sin and the Bible and history is wrong about the definition of ‘traditional marriage’, it does not affect heterosexual values/attraction, it increases the number of adopted orphans, I) Traditional marriage (same sex marriage isn’t considered a traditional marriage because its same sex) isn’t historically/culturally accurate a. The Random House Dictionary (circa 1970) defines marriage as “the state of being married”. Today, many Americans like to define marriage as “a bond between a man and a woman only”. Traditionally, Christians (who make up America’s religion census) oppose the concept of same-sex marriage because in the Bible it is viewed as a “sin”. Protest and posters that read “Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” and “God hates fags” all because same sex marriage isn’t “traditional” marriage. The shocking thing is that it......

Adam and Eve

...Caroline Ward Mr. Lane Bible History 2 19 December 2013 Adam and Eve Perhaps the most famous couple in history, Adam and Eve sparked the beginning of humanity, and the loss of innocence. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, plants and animals, light to separate lightness and darkness, the oceans, and then man. Adam was the first man created. While he was sleeping, "The Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and brought her to the man." (Genesis 1:20). As a result, the first couple was created millenniums ago. What is significant about the creation of man is that it symbolizes the origins of temptation and sin. Adam and Eve were placed by God in a garden in a land called Eden. In the garden, there were two trees, the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge. God told Adam and Eve that they may eat from any tree, except the Tree of Knowledge, and if they were to eat from it, they shall die. A serpent then appeared from the tree. The serpent tempted Eve to eat from the tree, stating that if she did, that she would know both good and evil, just like God. So she took the fruit, and then gave some to Adam. God then punished both of them....

Adam Smith

...ANALYTICAL ESSAY 1: How Adam Smith Has Shaped Our Economy For The Better Jose Arguello University of Redlands July 25, 2013 Introduction The purpose of this paper is to analyze and discuss how Adam Smith’s economic theories have shaped our economy for the better. This paper will define Adam Smith’s major economic theories and relate them to today’s economy. This paper will conclude with recommendations on how some of these theories can be improved. Discussion When people think of Adam Smith they think of Adam Smith “the economist.” In fact, many don’t realize that Adam Smith was a philosopher at heart. From that critical thinking space as a philosopher, Adam Smith developed his economic theories. Adam Smith obtained a professorship at Glasgow teaching moral philosophy. “Here, Smith developed his passion for liberty, reason, and free speech. In 1740 Smith was awarded the Snell exhibition and left to attend Balliol College, Oxford.” (Buchanan, 2006) These are important facts about Adam Smith because it gives us an insight to his philosophy and eventually into his economic theories. Furthermore, before Adam Smith wrote his well-known work, The Wealth of Nations, he wrote The Theory of Moral Sentiments. It is important to note that in writing The Theory of Moral Sentiment, Adam Smith’s goal “was to explain the source of mankind's ability to form moral judgments, in spite of man's natural inclinations towards self-interest. Smith proposes a theory of......

John Adams

...To say that John Adams was an influential founding father is an understatement. John Adams is usually only known for helping with the declaration of independence but he did so much more than just writing the declaration of independence. He was a very prominent lawyer for his time. He was born in Braintree, Massachusetts on October 30, 1735 oldest to john and Susanna Boylston. His father was a farmer and shoemaker who served as a Congregationalist deacon and an official in local government. John was a teacher for several years until he decided to further his education at Harvard law in 1758 then decided to practice law under James Putnam. In 1764 he married Abigail smith a minister’s daughter. They had 6 children together. In the mist of all that was going on in the colonies Adams began challenging Great Britain’s authority. “He came to view the British imposition of high taxes and tariffs as a tool of oppression, and he no longer believed that the government in England had the colonists’ best interests in mind” (network, 2014) Adams was one of few that spoke out against the stamp act and Townshend acts. He didn’t believe that the British were not thinking about the people he was just caring about the profit. Both of these acts against the colonies taxed all legal documents, newspapers and playing cards, glass and tea. All these were imported to America, these acts angered the colonists. Even though he was a prominent leader in revolutionary time he still believed that......

Adam Smith

...Why Adam Smith is important Adam Smith (1723-1790) was a Scottish philosopher and economist who is best known as the author of An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth Of Nations (1776), one of the most influential books ever written. The old view of economics In Smith’s day, people saw national wealth in terms of a country’s stock of gold and silver. Importing goods from abroad was seen as damaging because it meant that this wealth must be given up to pay for them; exporting goods was seen as good because these precious metals came back. So countries maintained a vast network of controls to prevent this metal wealth draining out – taxes on imports, subsidies to exporters, and protection for domestic industries. The same protectionism ruled at home too. Cities prevented artisans from other towns moving in to ply their trade; manufacturers and merchants petitioned the king for protective monopolies; labour-saving devices were banned as a threat to existing producers. The productivity of free exchange Smith showed that this vast ‘mercantilist’ edifice was folly. He argued that in a free exchange, both sides became better off. Quite simply, nobody would trade if they expected to lose from it. The buyer profits, just as the seller does. Imports are just as valuable to us as our exports are to others. Because trade benefits both sides, said Smith, it increases our prosperity just as surely as do agriculture or manufacture. A nation’s wealth is not the quantity of...

Adam

...Adam Smith’s, The Wealth of Nations; a Current Synopsis Kenneth D Neat, CPA, CFE, MSA, MST (PhD Candidate) Florida Atlantic University Dr. Carl Pacini June 24, 2010 Adam Smith Wealth of Nations Book I: Of the Causes of Improvement... Of the Division of Labour: Smith states that "the greatest improvement in the productive powers of labour, and the greater part of the skill, dexterity, and judgment with which it is anywhere directed, or applied, seem to have been the effects of the division of labour." To illustrate this, he describes the extensive division of labour within the "trifling" industry of pin manufacture, along with the astounding resultant productivity, and labourers' dexterity; then levers this as an introductory microcosm of the greater, yet less obvious division of labour in the broader economy. The advantages of this division were likely the driving force behind diversification of the trades and industry, and this diversification was greatest for nations with more industry and improvement. Agriculture is differentiated from industry for its comparative lack of division of labour, and the attendant lack of improved productivity; hence, while poor nations could not compete with rich nations in manufactures, they could compete in agriculture. Smith lists three causes, arising from division, of improved productivity: • the labourer's dexterity - due to specializing, year-round, in a specific task • time not wasted passing from one task to the...

Adam Smith

...Adam Smith and The role of Government To what extent should Government play a role in economy and society is hotly contested . The opinions vary wildly , from one extreme of anarchism who believe in no government to another extreme of socialist totalitarian , who argue for full and complete control by state of the society and the economy . Vast majority of people though have a view which lies somewhere between the aforementioned extremes , even so these "moderate " can and indeed often do vary greatly . Up until the late 1800s the government role in society of developed countries was minor . Government expenditures, revenue from taxation compared to total economic output was very small, and regulation were unheard of . All this began to change in late 1800s , when Germany enacted the laws relating to what we now call welfare state . Since then, even nations that stayed away from the extremes of fascism and communism have embraced the more widened role for the government . In almost all of the developed western democracies , national governments have expanded the welfare state by enacting various welfare programs such as state pension , universal health care, free education unemployment benefits etc. The Government expenditure as well as taxation revenue compared to total economic output have risen dramatically and regulations of private sector is commonplace and complex. In this paper , we do not argue to what extent should state be involved the economy and society...

Adam Smith

...“Adam Smith Meets Climate Change How the theory of moral sentiments could be applied to cap-and-trade greenhouse-gas emissions.” By Ian Ayres and Doug Kysar Slate, Posted Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at 11:53 AM ET Despite all the attention to domestic oil drilling, Obama and McCain are not that far apart on climate change—both candidates support a cap-and-trade system to limit U.S. greenhouse-gas emissions. And neither candidate has told us much about how they will get the rest of the world on the cap-and-trade bandwagon. That challenge deserves more focus—unless we can entice fast-growing emitters like China, India, and Brazil ! into a climate change treaty as full participants, even complete energ y independence in this country will be little consolation in a warming world. We think Adam Smith may have had a suggestion for how to think about this problem—and it's more than just an invisible hand. For 30 years now, officials have been groping toward a system in which greenhouse-gas emitters all around the world can trade permits. GHG reductions achieve the same global atmospheric benefit regardless of where they occur, but because industries and firms have different costs of reduction, it makes economic sense to allow them to trade permits. That way we can lower emissions for less money. But a crucial sticking point is figuring out how to initially allocate emissions permits among the various countries of the world. [PROPOSAL ONE:] Generally speaking, richer......
