Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to research and understand how the changes of globalization and technology have impacted the music industry. This paper will also apply the industrial organization model and the resource-based model to determine how the music industries earn above-average returns. This paper will explain how the music industry’s success is through its mission and vision statements with Universal Music Group as an example. Finally, this paper will evaluate how the importance each category of the stakeholder impacts is to the overall success of the music industry.

Assess how globalization and technology changes have impacted the corporation you researched.
The company researched was Universal Music Group because the music industry is ever growing and wanted to know more about the company. As we all know, technology has been a major part of the music industry both good and bad. Technology has helped plenty of artists and hurt others. Since the introduction of the mp3 and the popularity of the IPOD device, compact disc sales have declined and more music is being released without the record company’s permission. Some may view this as a major problem to the other major record labels that distribute music globally. But some are using the mp3 to their advantage. A while ago an artist could not walk out of a studio and release a record in ten minutes. Now artists can get the music to their fans in record time and the fans can then download the song a lot faster than a drive to the local record store. Overall sales are down in the music industry, but according to sources “Universal Music Group, the biggest of the world’s four major music companies, made the most money percentage and dollar wise from digital…...

...or more. A part-time employee is an employee that is hired to work 29 or less hours. The temporary employees are employees that are on call, called to work at any given time, and do not receive benefits. However; unlike other companies PHS has long term temporary employees that normally stay with the company until an open position in the company is available for them. At the moment PHS has an abundance of full and part time employees that are available to work on call also on their off days. Recruitment Methodology Platinum Health Services utilizes internal and external recruiting as their methods. The recruitment sources the company utilizes are apply online through the company website, employee referrals, advertisements in the local paper, posting jobs on general employment websites (careerbuilder.com), and searching web-based databases. The internal recruitment method has the potential to build a strong loyalty with the organization as the employees have a chance to change their position in time. In reference to (e-recruiting) E-recruiting decreases information asymmetry between recruiters and job applicants. Job applicants become more knowledgeable about the companies they are interested in applying to before they make a decision to apply and accept a job offer. According to (Riley, Jim) external recruitment is when the business looks to fill the vacancy from any suitable applicant outside the business. It also states that the advantages are that: outside people bring......

...Strategic Management and Strategic Competitiveness Melinda Upchurch Dr. Debra Sherrill Business Administration Capstone May 1, 2014 1. Assess how globalization and technology changes have impacted the corporation you researched. Blockbuster has evolved throughout the 25 years that the company has been in business. Blockbuster initially provided home videos and video games rentals and throughout the years added DVD rentals, DVD by mail, streaming, video on demand and Cinema Theater. The company merged with Viacom in 1993, but was unsuccessful so Viacom bought Blockbuster for $8.4 billion dollars. Blockbuster also moved business across the globe into the United Kingdom and became the number one video store in the United Kingdom. In the year 2000 Blockbuster turned down the opportunity to purchase Netflix which has become one of the biggest on-demand internets streaming media available to viewers across the globe. Blockbuster was at an all-time high in sales in 2004 employing over 60,000 people with over 9,000 chains of stores. From 2003 to 2005 Blockbuster loses 75% of its market value as competition increases from the likes of Netflix and Redbox. (Marcus, Schaefer 2011) By 2010 the competition from Netflix drove sales for Blockbuster down causing the company to suffer and file for Chapter 11. ...the challenges thereof, and look at some possible solutions that our lawmakers embrace. We will begin with a brief historical overview of the fracturing of shale. Fracturing in the United States is not exactly unknown, as hydraulic fracturing began in this country 130 years ago, making us the most “fracked” country in the world. Large scale fracking began in earnest though in the 1980s, when Mitchell Energy Development Corporation used this technology on the Barnett Shale play in Texas. What is the current status of shale fracturing? The United States in the past 130 years has produced more than 839 trillion cubic feet of gas (TCFG). Shale gas production is expected to grow 113% between now and 2040 (Fracking Resource, 2011). On paper these figures seem impressive, so what is the problem, if there is one, one might ask? Let us examine potential problems that some may suggest. We will discuss safety concerns, the argument of economics, and lastly the political aspect as related to fracking. One of the problems when it comes to fracking is one of safety, and that is to us, and to the environment. The public wants to know that fracking is safe for them and the environment so that must be addressed. Another problem is economics, which is to say, does it make sense economically to aggressively pursue fracking? This means we must see a cost benefit, which means lawmakers must be convinced as to the economic viability. Naturally the next logical question is what are......

...RUNNING HEADER: BENEFIT OF MERGING AND STAYING INDEPENDENT Assignment 4: Merger, Acquisition, and International Strategies By: Professor Unknown Business 499 Business Administration Capstone Strayer University Winter Quarter 2015 BENEFIT OF MERGING AND STAYING INDEPENDENT Every week as we fill up our gas tanks and wonder why gas prices are up and down; we wonder a few things. How much is this company making off us? Why are gas prices going up now? As I get to what this assignment is about, the question for you I have is. Do you think and oil company could get even bigger? In 1999, Exxon and Mobil agreed to an $80 billion dollar merger to form Exxon- Mobil Corporation. According to Mary DiMaggio’s article, “The Top 10 Best (and Worst) Corporate Mergers of All Time... Or, the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”, dated 9/15/09, not only did Exxon- Mobil become the largest company in the world, but it reunited its 19th century former selves, John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company of New Jersey (Exxon) and Standard Oil Company of New York (Mobil). In my opinion and based on research I think the merger was a wise choice. It’s a wise choice because they set themselves up to lead in a few different markets. You could say that they are a small rich oil nation. The first reason I think it was a wise choice because now that the two companies have merged they have reduced their expenses. Reducing expensing means more money in revenue. Another......

...“Nestle: Sustaining Growth in Mature Markets” Bus 499 Summer Quarter 2010 Describe each of the following elements in the Current Competitive Landscape: Globalization, Technology, Knowledge, Strategic Flexibility, Quality, and Profit Pool. The Nestlé Food Company has been part of the global community since it was first founded in 1866 marketing its products in 130 countries across the world. “Over the previous 130 years, Nestlé had acquired profound knowledge of markets all over the world, and enjoyed great success in adapting its products to local tastes” (Hitt, Ireland, & Hoskisson, 2009). In doing this Nestlé has retained the reputation as a heroine company who “thinks globally but acts locally” (Hitt, Ireland, & Hoskisson, 2009). Nestlé has not just succeeded in the food industry but is taking strong leads to impact nutrition, health, and wellness. The Nestlé Company continues to stay competitive within the global market while continually working with a failing economy; according to Barbara Kollmeyer of Market Watch (2009) "It's still a good defensive stock. Its international profile, combined with presence in 25 businesses provides good resilience in a downturn. The development of the product mix towards Nutrition and Health should have increased the group's defensive profile. This strategy is based on a price positioning that should remain competitive.” The knowledge that Brabeck introduced in 1997 brought many new strategies to Nestlé......

The Starbucks name was inspired by the mermaid in the Moby Dick novel. It offered some of the best fresh-roasted whole bean coffee. According to starbucks.com, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company from the beginning. Not only a company that celebrated the rich tradition of coffee, but also one that brought a feeling of connection amongst people. The idea was for it to be the common place between work and home. Today there are over 16,000 stores in 50 different countries (starbucks.com website). In this paper, I will discuss the segments of the external and internal environments influence on Starbucks. According to the text, the challenge to each firm is to scan, monitor, forecast, and assess the elements in each segment of the general environment to determine the effects on the company (Hitt, Ireland, Hoskisson 2013). The segments include demographic, political/legal, sociocultural, technological, global, and physical environment. The demographic segment considers the population’s size, age structure, geographic distribution, ethnic mix, and income......
