Key Features of CareerOneStop The CareerOneStop Web site is a useful tool for those individuals looking to enhance their skills within the employment field. While conducting research on this particular Web site, there were many features that were found to be useful not only for potential employees but also employers. The first feature that I found to be useful was the “Education and Training” feature. This feature was designed to assist individuals looking to further their education and training. Individuals utilizing this feature are afforded the opportunity to be educated on careers that require additional certification and licensure. Not only does the site inform individuals of particular jobs that require a higher level of education it also gives the names of the specific colleges and programs in which the client can earn additional training. If individuals are unable to finance a higher level of education, the Web site also offers financial aid and scholarship information. The second feature I believed to be useful was the “Unemployment” feature. In today’s U.S. economy the employment rate is 7.2 percent (Rampell, 2013). This feature educates people on unemployment benefits for their specific state. Not only does the site educate individuals on unemployment benefits but it also offers education on how to become eligible for benefits, maintain benefits, and the action needed to be taken if denied benefits. The site also encourages unemployed individuals to plan ahead for future expenses. When people become unemployed and have difficulty in finding alternative employment they can encounter hardships, for example, health insurance continuation and mortgage payments. The site offers information on specific agencies that assist individuals in making payments for…...

The basic services of the new coffee shop will include offering all kinds of coffee, satisfying any customer, from simple customers to very sophisticated ones. Additional services refer to chocolate, which is considered by some to be going hand in hand with coffee. Therefore...

A Fast One-Stop Shop

...on a smart phone and tablet. Alongside the illustration, the ad states, “Whatever your healthy is, Aetna can help you get there.”(26) The ad is trying to target people who are health conscious and need guidance in achieving those goals. One would presumably think the ad is trying to target women in their thirties to mid forties. Men in general are too pompous to think they need help achieving these goals, but as women get older, there is more pressure to stay fit and young looking. Societal pressures can make women feel self-conscious about their appearance and this app takes advantage of that by giving you a plan to achieve these ideals. The creator of Carepass is aware that Americans are unhealthy, yet health conscious, and is here to help with this problem. In proposing a solution to a health conscious society, by creating an app to assist in the journey to become a healthier individual, it is revealing a bigger problem. America thinks it can fix anything with one click of a mouse, one app purchased or one pill to swallow; but in fact, “What’s your healthy?” is not just one purchase or something one can accomplish, it is a lifestyle. Aetna is trying to give the idea that all of this can be achieved through the app, and Carepass is a one-stop-shop to all of life’s problems. Americans waste a great amount of time and money on the latest fad diets and workouts that promise to give the user six-pack abs in only 30 minutes without ever getting off the couch. ...example, the tactic used by the dollar stores (Dollar General, Family Dollar, and Dollar Tree). These chains successfully operate small stores within the shadow of the large discounters by providing convenience, and low prices on a low prices on a limited product selection. By enabling their customers to get in and out quickly, these stores are able to compete with the larger chains. Still, the niche served by these dollar stores is risky since they tend to target households earning $25,000 a year or less, a segment that offers little in the way of discretionary spending on high-margin items, and requires that dollar stores make few, if any, errors, in their merchandise selection. Small locally owned retailers may also use a tactic like the one tied by a variety store in Viroqua, WI. When Wal-Mart located a store nearby, it give each of its employees $20 to shop Wal-Mart. Because its employees were local and understood the community, they learned that their store would not be price competitive in health and beauty items or housewares but that Wal-Mart had little offerings for the agricultural community. Further, a new private school in town brought in a number of residents with more sophisticated tastes than those of the typical Wal-Mart customer. By catering to these underserved customer segments, the variety store has thrived. A small retailer competition is not just the large discount stores in the area. This retailer would be wise to check the local drugstore, perhaps a......

The Maschine Stops

...The Machine Stops The science fiction short story (novella) The Machine Stops is written by E.M Forster in 1909. The story is about a lady, Vashti, and her son Kuno. They live in a future world ruled by a machine. In this world, all the people live in their own cells with a lot of buttons, a desk and one book. Every day, they do the same things over and over again: “She made the room dark and slept; she awoke and made the room light; she ate and exchanged ideas with her friends, and listened to music and attended lectures; she made the room dark and slept”. This one book is so to speak their ‘bible’. This is a book about the machine and its functions and rules. The people in this society live after certain principles organized by the machine, such as: “[…] bringing people to things, instead of bringing things to people”. In the story, Forster pictures Vashti as very supportive to, and excited about, the machine. In contrast, her son Kuno is described as very sceptical and rebellious. Because the society rules and norms made by the machine are such big issues in the story, I would also like to focus on this. This society is not only described in the story, it is also the topic of a continuous discussion between Vashti and Kuno. As mentioned, Vashti fits very well into the clear rules and ascetic living of this dystopian society. In this world, human interactions are not necessary and therefore not accepted as normal behaviour: “People never touched one another”,......

Stop the Bullying

...Stop The Bullying Every day, on every playground and hallway in our American schools, children, youths, and teens are harassed, tormented, made fun, physically and mentally abused and embarrassed by bullies. Is your child one of these bullies or a victim of bullying? This bully behavior is not only happening in the United States but all over the world. Many children and youths observe miserably as other school children get bullied at school. Bullies usually pick on personalities and individuals who are weaker than themselves, so they can build themselves to feel better about themselves. Sadly to say, many individuals have witnessed bullying or been a bully themselves. As parents, school administrators and citizens of a community we need to unite and stand up to bullies and give our children the tools, knowledge and skills to reach out for help from their peers, teachers and parents. In many school systems across the nation, plans to protect students from the growing occurrence of bullying are being developed. Bullying within our school systems has become a nationwide growth and development of strategies and proposals between parents, teachers, school administrators and government to assist our school systems to promote antibullying programs, therefore giving the kids who are being bullied an outlet to reach out for help. The current antibully programs in the school systems are not effective because they are based on self-reporting systems and those have been......

Two-Career Family Versus One-Career Family

...Two-Career Family Versus One-Career Family My paper will focus on the differences and the similarities between the two career families and one career families, and will give ideas regarding which of the two is better in the development of the individual career. There are various studies that focus on the career development of the individual and how the work is connected with the non-work lives of people. There are divergent studies that show the strong relationship of family and work. It shows that the developmental needs of the family will produce incomplete understanding regarding the career dynamics (Arthur & Hall 1989, p. 159). One of the main differences between the two career family and the one career family is the focus on the roles and the responsibilities of the parents, concerning the many needs of the family. The one career family is what we call the traditional setup, where the male’s major task is to be the financial provider and have great influence over them. Men primarily handles the decision-making process, while the women assumes the responsibility of taking care of the home, caring and raising the kids, managing household chores, cooking, and handling day-to-day errands. Some of the one career families focus on the fact that some men place a lot of heart and attention on their own career, whereas, family time is considered a secondary responsibility. On the other hand, the two career family is considered the product of evolution, and the development...

...they are more likely to become isolated due to having a limited amount of social networks. Their carers may be their main source of interaction therefore this may make them dependant on their carers, making them vulnerable if they are mentally/physically unstable. Especially if they are confused, suffering from learning disabilities or delicate. Individuals that live with family members are also open to abuse, which may be carried out by one or more members of their family who may be seen as their ‘carers’. If family members are caring for the individual, they will most likely have access to all/most of their possessions. This then makes the individual more open to abuse. For example, if the individual is receiving DLA (disabled living allowance) because they are disabled in some way, the family member may see this as an opportunity to take the money if they are getting their mail through the door. This may be seen as financial abuse. If the individual is living at home with family members, they may experience other forms of abuse, one of which may be physiological abuse. Physiological abuse may occur if the individual that is being cared for is experiencing name calling and being blamed for most occurrences in the home. With the individual living at home and possibly being abused, they may be increasingly vulnerable due to the lack of trust and the situation becoming more difficult to solve. People who lack mental capacity to give consent An individual’s mental......
