Scenario One
As Marketing Manager conveying pertinent information to my team is essential in order for us as a whole to be successful. Therefore, I would use a formal channel of communication. This would be the best channel to use considering that “formal channels of communication are established by the organization and transmit messages related to professional activities of members” (Robbins & Judge, 2011). Productively executing this assignment for the overall victory of the company is this goal because that is what will generate revenue. The first step would be to meet personally as a group in order to discuss the expectations that are at hand. Microsoft Outlook is a great tool to use when sending invites for meetings. Once the meeting takes place minutes should be recorded to refer back to. Other methods of communication to follow would be conference calls, e-mails, etc. When conveying the strategy to the Vice President of Operations, I would still use a formal channel because this pertains to business versus personal. In presenting to him or her, again I would send an invite in Outlook for us to meet. Once accepted, I would have prepared a PowerPoint, which is an excellent visual aid.
Face-to-face communication is best in both situations to convey information quickly, to avoid confusion, to elicit input, and so questions can be asked. Written communication to the team is best after they have been informed so they have a document they can refer back to while working on the project. Written communication is also used when meeting with the Vice President to outline the details of the strategy. So both the Manager of Operations and the Vice President can refer back to the strategy as needed.
