Connecting the Dots

Initially, I was unable to review the actual results of the Path Builder in Step 1 regarding the assessment that I had taken. Step 2 initially showed me that I mastered all modules on my Learning Path. This includes Sentence Skills, Punctuation, Mechanics and Spelling, and The Craft of Writing. When I selected the Mastered Module titled Sentence Skills, I selected Skills Check and took a short exam. This resulted in a suggestion to work on Fragments next.

These skills directly apply my academic life because these are the very skills that are going to be evaluated by the instructors, which in turn will determine how successful I am in each class. While I may have the ability to analyze a situation, I won't be as successful in class if I am unable to correctly articulate that analysis using proper grammar, punctuation and sentence structure.

The skills that I am learning in the Path Builder also relate directly to my professional life as a Paralegal, working for attorneys that rely on the written word to convey their legal arguments and points when defending their clients. I have to be able to construct clear and concise motions and pleadings, often times trying to convince a judge or prosecutor to see our point of view regarding very delicate topics. Most of my life, I have been naturally able to construct a proper sentence or write a grammatically correct paper, but I could never define a fragment or parallel sentence. I am excited about the positive affect this program is going to have on my writing skills!

I was pleasantly surprised by the initial results of my Path Builder results because, while I have a naturally solid ability to write, I don't have the educational experience to be confident and secure in my writing abilities. As I stated previously, I can't tell you why a sentence sounds right, I just know that it does.…...

Connecting on Linkedin Is Not Networking

...frequently on LinkedIn. People boast of having 20 or 30 thousand connections on LinkedIn. Sounds great, but how much value is this for you in your job search? Simply because you connect with someone on LinkedIn does not make them a networking connection for referrals and other information. Consider if you are attending a sporting event or a movie and as you enter the building you and a stranger are entering the facility. You both exchange a nod or “hello”. Have you now made a networking connection? You might think not. This is no different than connecting with a stranger on LinkedIn. You might be in the same group or have some other common interest, but you don’t know each other. If this person saw that you worked at a company they have interest in, would you be a good referral for this person? Probably not. Why? Because you don’t know them. I am a huge believer in meeting someone in person, but with the internet you may be connecting with people across the country. If you can’t meet with them in person, then begin a conversation and share some background and experience. Yes, this takes time and effort, but if this person could recommend you to a potential hiring manager would it be worth the time and effort? To have a good networking connection requires you spend time getting to know each other, by spending time describing and explaining the depth of your skills, talents, expertise and background. How do you start this process? You can join several groups on......

Dippin Dots Analysis

...Case Study 34: Dippin’ Dots Dippin’ Dots, “Ice Cream of the Future,” has been around for nearly 25 years. The company has had some major obstacles to overcome throughout the years. When Dippin’ Dots first launched, it truly stood behind its name, “Ice Cream of the Future.” The founder of Dippin’ Dots came up with a process known as flash freeze liquid cream. He was able to reinvent a product that people of all ages had either heard of or tried. The strategies used were, developing “futuristic” ice cream, targeting people ages 8 to 18, continuing to grow the company by use of franchises and selling the product through amusement parks, fairs, malls and the use of vending machines. He used celebrities to promote product, tried a joint venture with McDonald’s, and introduced healthier options to be able to target selling product in schools. The threat of new entrants is high due to loss of patent; competition along with disenfranchised former employees can copy the product. Power of suppliers is high due to special equipment needed to store product in addition to storing with dry ice. International shipping was also difficult due to equipment needed to store and ship product. The buyer power is low due to locations where Dippin’ Dots are sold are places in where consumers typically spend more money. Therefore the 5 oz cup for $5.00 is not an over-priced product. Consumers realize in these......

...In MyFoundationsLab, I started to build my writing learning path; so it can show me what areas I need improvement in writing, and that I may apply them throughout my course. Connect the Dots

...Omar Gonzalez AP Language Mrs. Edwards “Connect the dots” Essay 15, December 2011 Today, I am an artist sponsored by Roseta Santiago, who is also an artist. It has been quite a journey full of surprises, mistakes, success, and disappointments. I never expected to make it this far, I could only dream of this to happen to me. Now that my dream is a reality, I am just going to live it and hopefully one day, I’ll make it to the top! As a kid in elementary school, I always loved to doodle on my notes and I would enjoy going to art class and making little clay pots and whatnot. I was just always drawing at home, school, and wherever I was. Even though I would draw a lot, I never thought or believed that it would get me somewhere in life, because you would never think of asking a kid what he or she want to be in life and getting the response: “I want to be an artist”. Once I got into middle school, I had this sudden interest in art because I was alright at it and I really didn’t like anything else. Although I liked it so much, I would still never think of telling people my interest in it. I always thought for the longest time that art was just a hobby, that it wouldn’t get me anywhere. As I went through seventh and eighth grade, my passion and interest in art grew even more. Still, I didn’t like art enough to think of it as an occupation because everyone else would always think to be a doctor or lawyer, I was still “exploring” my options. I got the opportunity to take art...

There is an information gap between investors and companies. Investors usually do not have enough information or expertise to determine the good investments from the bad ones. And companies do not usually have the infrastructure and know-how to directly receive capital from investors. Intermediaries include accountants, lawyers, regulators, investment banks, venture capitalists, and money management firms. Venture Capitalists provide capital for companies in their early stages of development. They sought to provide a very high rate of return for their investors for the associated risk. This was accomplished by selling their stake in their portfolio companies either to the public through an IPO, or to another company in a trade sale. Investment banks provided advisory financial services, helped companies price their offerings, underwrite the shares, and introduce them to investors. Matching these capabilities against the key success factors of the industry give your opinion on the Company’s competitive position. In an industry awash with competitors, Dippin‟ Dots (DD) is reliant upon particular technological features in the manufacturing, production and distribution of the flash ice-cream product. This is what fundamentally sets it apart from its rivals. Indeed, the industry-life cycle is generally considered to be at the maturity stage, however DD‟s intellectual capital rests upon the ability of its scientific people to continue to create a product that is following a “breakaway positioning” strategy whereby there is a concerted effort to bring to market goods and services that are perceived by customers as somehow being different (Dess, 2006: 178). Seen in this light, DD‟s cryogenically produced products can be categorised as occupying a particular growth stage of the industry life-cycle, within a wider market that is at the point of maturity. ...CASE STUDY: THE ROLE OF CAPITAL MARKET INTERMEDIARIES IN THE DOT-COM CRASH OF 2000 Question 1 Venture Capitalists: The intended role should be to fund effectively picked out unlisted growth companies with promising business ideas and talented value driven management teams from those companies that do not reflect these characteristics. As VC’s typically encounter high risk upon investing, they also demand a high return that often comes in the form of a sell out of shares after an IPO.
