Don’t get me started on… Twilight. Twilight… terrifying, teeny, torture!
A sickening series, spawning sequel, after sequel, after sequel. A tale of teeny love set amongst the fashionable vampire culture. I hate it! I hate vampires! I hate the banal storylines! I hate the sickening simpering simpletons posing as actors! “Wait!” I hear the cries of a thousand poor deluded teenage girls. “Why do you hate us so much?”
Firstly, and I really regret having to tell you this but… it’s not real. Those obsessive compulsives who fantasise about living their lives within these films will find that their dreams shattered by unrealistic expectations of perfection. All the characters are perfect. Every perfect plastic smiling girl has two perfect (plastic) smiling boys after her. No zits. No farts. No burps. Just, perfection. All this results in is disappointment. They can never be as perfect as Bella, Edward or Jacob – they will never find their perfect plastic partner for a simple reason: It’s. Not. Real!
Secondly Twilight is dangerous. It warps the minds of sweet, naive, innocents. How? I hear you ask. Well, is it perfectly normal to want to sink your choppers into someone’s neck? Noooo! I mean hickeys are one thing, but drinking their blood? Come on! People are jailed for less! Not to mention the fact that religious groups are up in arms about these films. Protests have broken out (ironically becoming violent) about the message these films are encouraging: an unhealthy interest in the occult. 99% of extreme right wing Evangelists are terrified that every single ‘Twilight’ watcher will become a servant of Satan, a disciple of the devil. Scary! Would you want your child to be Beelzebub’s buddy?
The films vague plot seems to resolve around a love tryst. One must either be ‘Team Edward’ or ‘Team Jacob’ dependent on whom you would prefer to ‘get it on’ with the every lovely Bella…...

How to Get Started with Fountain Pens

...think. And some people, me included, agree that starting with one of these options is a great way to see if you’d even enjoy writing with a fountain pen without risking too much from the wallet. Some of the most popular and most highly recommend choices in this category are: Pilot 78G – Get started with cartridges, but a converter is also available, and nibs are interchangeable with the Pilot Plumix. It can also be converted to be eyedropper filled (greater ink capacity) quite easily, with no tools required. Platinum Preppy – Dirt cheap pen, but with engineering beyond it price. The nibs are high quality manufactured, the same nibs are found on much more expensive pens. Some people don’t like the look because of the logo, but if you order a 4.5 oz bottle of some Noodler’s inks, you’ll get a free Preppy that’s been converted to eyedropper filled and the logo removed. The nibs are interchangeable. Pilot Metropolitan – A quite attractive pen, the Metro will suite you well in the workplace. It’s quality belies its price. A cartridge converter is also available. This is a $15 pen that should cost much more (but don’t tell anyone). You may be asking yourself, is that all there is to it? Of course NOT! Do you think we at B&B would stoop so low as that?! There’s Ink, Paper, Wax Seals, and a whole host of other goodies to try! The pens mentioned above each come with a cartridge or 2 to get you started, but you’ll probably......

I Read It but I Don't Get It

...I read it but I don’t get it[1] The title of my article is a title of a book by Cris Tovani but more of that later! I want to explore why I feel that Ken Rowe’s literacy report misses the complexity of literacy development in young people– at least from my secondary perspective. Of course he covers some bases and on the surface suggests a balanced approach. He is also right that teachers need to be better educated about reading practices. However, the emphasis on phonics which has been widely reported in the media appears disproportionate to its usefulness. Some students can manage to read and spell without phonics so why do we need to occupy their brains with phonemes or phonic practices. Others need them. The informed primary teacher differentiates accordingly. What Ken Rowe does not focus on is the literacy needs of young people in secondary schools where decoding is less of a problem than comprehension. For many students reading is meaningless – particularly fiction. The Four Resource Model of Allan Luke and Peter Freebody[2] outlines what students need to do as they read: Effective literacy draws on a repertoire of practices that allow learners, as they engage in reading and writing activities, to: • break the code of texts: recognising and using the fundamental features and architecture of written texts including: alphabet, sounds in words, spelling, conventions and patterns of sentence structure and text • participate in the......

...applied to the act that he/she has done. This too applies to the House Bill 4244 or better known as The Reproductive Health bill, that the bill was not made for the purpose of immorality, but for the purpose of what they believe is practical, of what is useful or in general is of what they believe is right. Unfortunately, there is the existence of Moral Pluralism which dictates to us that there are a lot of different perceptions of whether a certain action is right or wrong. Therefore, just because the RH Bill is a practical (Pragmantism) counter measure for Overpopulation or it is useful (Utilitarianism) to solve certain problems of the society, does not mean that it is already the right thing to do, nor is it considered to be moral. Let me enumerate to you the various points I have gained from the book “In Light of Reason” by Prof. Marvin Julian L. Sambajon, Jr. which deals about the different matters in the controversial bill. The Bill is said to promote Reproductive Health, according to the bill, “Reproductive Health refers to the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system to its functions and processes”. By staying to the normal order of things, the reproductive system is already at the state of wellness. The well being of the reproductive system occurs when it stays on its functions and processes; it is already healthy by staying that way. Here is where inconsistencies from the bill begin. First of all,......

I Wrote This When I Was Young, so Don't Judge Me

...“Money don’t grow on trees, sugarplum. We work hard to do what we do. Ya’ know why? ‘Cuz money don’t grow on trees. We do what we do with hopes to be free. But, let me explain, money don’t come to us black folks on trees.” I’m not sure it do, but that’s what my poppa told me when great-great grammie Loretta passed away. That was a sad day, yes it was. I cried. You can ask my poppa about how I cried for 2 weeks straight. Oh, how I cried. Maybe I’m getting’ way, way ahead of my-self. My name Loretta, too, and ain’t nobody tellin’ me my name is nothin else. That is not who I is! Anyway, I live on some plantation in northern Carolina and these parts ain’t kind to ya either. I work muh butt off to keep it from that mean, nasty, leather strip. I mean, I work hard- I don’t quit either. My poppa was born into slavery and his great-great grandpappy was a hick straight from the sticks. He mad at the white folks- but also his ancestors fer not fightin’ back. We do a lot of ‘hardships’ to remain happy, or so my granny used to say when I was a young’un. My life as a slave was not one u might expect. Now, if you readin’ this, I’m most likely off living somewhere in the north. Now, that is the adventure of my life I don’t regret it one bit. Here’s how the story of a lifetime unfolds… It all started when a strange knock appeared on our door. Naturally, I ran to a small hole just big enough for me that my father had dug and covered the top with a blanket. I did this for protection against...

"Don't Call Me I Won't Call You" James Shelley

...Stylistic analysis of the article “Don’t call me and I won’t call you”, Jim Shelley with the chilling story of one man for whom the party line’s over, published in Weekend Guardian. The extract reveals us a life-story of James Shelley, the story of his unusual addiction, the obsession to phone and to be phoned that led to his dismissal from the office, abandonment of friends and above all led to the personal psychological crisis. The correspondent’s aim is to confess frankly in ironical way to his telephone addiction ( he’s used to call it telephone frenzy); in certain sense to ridicule his own obsession and some other addictions that occur in our life. To demonstrate that his confession is honest and make it convincing the correspondent uses many special techniques. For instance, the narration goes from the first person, personal pronoun “I” is like the actual evidence of all events and creates the potential context of sympathy. Framing repetition “My name is Jim Shelley, and I’m an addict” used in the beginning of the article and in the end greatly shows the degree of sincerity and persuasiveness of the author. As regards the ironical attitude, the usage of “With these words I began to break the spells” as if he was possessed by evil spells, “I’d disappear for a quick fix a swift hint” terminology of drug-addicts compared to symptoms of his telephone frenzy adds as well the portion of irony. Cradling the phone- as if he treated the phone or a receiver as a little baby,......

Don't Tell Me I'M Not

...com don’t tell me i’m not By Kiara S. Randolph Seems like all I’ve ever heard is what I couldn’t and wouldn’t be... Just because I’m 5’5 and would rather stay in and read; then play outside don’t tell me I would never make the team. Just because I’m slow to speak and in crowds I tend to blend; rather than be the life of the party don’t tell me that I don’t deserve to be heard. My mother a janitor and my father a mechanic; hardworking but doesn’t come from money don’t tell me I can’t be a doctor. The youngest of three; my sister a model, my brother a star of tomorrow don’t tell me my future is anything less. I struggle with my weight; my mom trades my burgers for grapes. I walk down the hall, they point fingers, laugh at my temporary state, just because I’m 15 and overweight don’t tell me I could never be Miss USA. When I speak I stutter, one word becomes an echo of many. People poke fun call me retarded, but feelings I’ve got plenty. Just because I have a tough time being heard don’t tell me I can’t be a public speaker. The alarm rings, my face hits the floor before my feet. Soccer? More like the ball kicks me. Make the table for dinner? Forget it! Goofy names I answer to, but makes me feel less than, just because I lose everything I seem to grab don’t tell me that I’ll never have. Michael Jordan, Usain Bolt, Jackie Robinson; is that all you see my future to be? Yes I might be tall in length, dunk, sprint and hit home runs but don’t tell me an......

Egg Makes Sure That Sperm Don't Get Too Old

...Egg Makes Sure That Sperm Don't Get Too Old The article primary’s claim is that the result is an important step towards future stem cell therapy (science daily). I. Observe and Generalize: • I would like to learn more on how men are fertile throughout life. I would like to find out the how this is a contrast to women? II. Hypothesis: • The subject and/or hypothesis of this claim, is that the fertilizing sperm can get help from the egg to rejuvenate (science daily). III. Experiment (science daily)process: • The risk of chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus is highly correlated to the age of the mother, but is nearly independent of the age of the father. • Each time a cell divides, the genetic material becomes shorter. • The ends of the chromosomes, known as "telomeres", are important for the genetic stability of the cell and they act as a DNA clock that measures the age of the cell. • The cell stops dividing and dies when the telomeres become too short. • The discovery that the egg cell can extend the telomeres of a fertilizing sperm cell is important in the development of stem cell therapy. • Stem cell therapy involves replacing the cell nucleus in unfertilized egg with a nucleus from a somatic cell that has come from a patient who needs a stem cell transplantation. • When the cell has divided a few times, it is possible to harvest stem cells that are then allowed to mature to the cell type that the recipient needs. Don't Let Me Die

...Situations can change very quickly, especially within a healthcare facility. The nursing staff within a nursing home carries the responsibility of always watching and monitoring the environment to assure the residents are comfortable and cared for in the home. The ethical problem in “Please Don’t Let Me Die” case is malpractice. The nursing staff neglected to care for a patient noticeably in need and continually asking for help. Additionally, the three registered nursed were negligent. The two nurses found culpable in Loren Richard’s death had not successfully overseen the nursing staff to assure the team was following the standard of care. Regardless to the state of the floor prior to the three nurses taking a break, the registered nurses are responsible for the coverage of the floor and care for the patients for the duration of their break. If I had been one of the three registered nurses I would have been mindful of my responsibility and would have scheduled the breaks at different times to assure at least one registered nurse was present on the floor at all times. Additionally, I would have responded to Loren Richard’s cries for help and helped him get the necessary treatment. Having a good balance of qualified staff in relation to patients creates a better-managed environment for any healthcare facility, in this case, a better environment for the residents within the nursing home. “A component of Provision six is that conditions of employment must be conducive...

Don't Get Me Started

...Don’t get me started………. this is about having a big family. Yes family Is wonderful but when you are being introduced to your 5th, 7th, 10th and even your 20th cousin. It kinda gets boring. I love my family even my very extended family but……. There is always that disappointed look when my dad’s uncle’s grandfather’s nephew look at me and says “don’t you remember me?” and I would lie through my teeth “yeah sure I remember you, you were that guy that visited me when I was younger but I have unfortunately forgotten your name.” he would be all pleased and state his name “My name is Rashid Abdul Mohammed Hungara Bungara. Now imagine this 20 more times. It quit frustrating as you can see. My family originated from the great land of India which in fact is the second most populated country in the world so I have an “extensive” family. Yes when I say family that unfortunately that means my sibling. Siblings. A living nightmare that walks and talks and unfortunately eats. Before I start telling you the horrors of what a sibling is, let me justify that I am a brother of 18 year old of a rather temperamental girl who has quiet a mischievous streak so my childhood wasn’t exactly comfortable but I still love my sister despite the abhorrent acts she has done. Despite that sibling rivalry only strengthens our bond we have for each other but that doesn’t mean I can’t complain of her mistakes. Trust me; she makes a lot of mistakes. I have only one sibling and that was enough to send me......

Don't Get Me Started on Coursework

...Draft Don’t get me started on motorcycles. Maybe you’re part of the extravagant, ‘rock and roll’; tattooed, leather wearing-Mohawk-dyed people who enjoy riding motorcycles. Everything about motorbikes makes my skin crawl; the smell, the engine when you speed up but especially, the danger. I suppose that’s why purchase them, for the risk and the adrenalin rush. Maybe. Although, I don’t understand why one earth people are drawn to these death traps. We all know how many accidents and fatalities occur yet still, people buy them. Picture this, you’re en route to work but you’re stuck behind a ton of traffic. Angry drivers are beeping, swearing and complaining but as you look over your shoulder, you can hear a ‘grrrr’ sound. Within a blink of any eye, a big, black motorbike turns by accelerating in front of you so now, you’re going to be the latest one to work. As much as people may argue that this is a good excuse to buy a motorbike, but oh no, on the other hand. You see their snide, hysterical faces swerve by and wonder what gives the audacity to get to the front before all of us. Noise pollution! You’re in Spain or Germany or somewhere else beautiful having a lovely lunch outside and the birds are singing while you’re reading a magazine and having a laugh then suddenly, the monster is getting nearer, going left and right as it approaches. It speeds past you and your lunch; interrupting the birds, making your magazine have a panic and blow out of your grasp, and everyone’s......

Don't Get Me Start - Plastic Surgery

...Don’t get me started Don’t get me started on plastic surgery. It is not good for anyone, bar a couple of exceptions, and is destroying people. Why would you want to have it anyway? The cost of plastic surgery is ridiculous. Thousands upon thousands wasted on a couple injections. Do people even think before blowing all that cash on it? Sometimes, it isn’t even them who pay for it! Tax payers have to pay for people to get plastic surgery because of our silly little government. The NHS never ceases to amaze me. They think it is more important than things such as research for serious diseases such as cancer; medical equipment; medical supplies to treat patients and for hardworking hospital staff. I mean come on. “Let’s go and throw our money down the drain by buying Botox and other necessary items for plastic surgery rather than medicine to save peoples’ lives. Who needs a life to live anyway? Looks are WAY more important!” The imbeciles who get plastic surgery clearly cannot think and are just plain stupid. They do not have a sensible list of priorities as they prioritize the size of their breasts or the position of their cheeks more crucial than their health. Obviously, they are not educated or otherwise they would realise the risk plastic surgery imposes. One millilitre of Botox too much, only ONE, and you could be in A&E with a huge problem on your hands. Sometimes, people are so desperate to manipulate their face that they go to anyone who can operate on them. Some......

Ways to Get Started on an Essay

...When writing a paper I always try free writing everything that is going on in my mind about a topic to get it all out in the open. Even if my thoughts are biased, completely random or repetitive, or have no truth to it I find it easier to see which side of the argument I more agree on or if any of my thoughts have any real basis to them. After I get all of my thoughts in the open I underline key points and try researching them to see if there is any research to support them. Illegal aliens are as stated illegal; illegal acts are to be judged and then condemned by law and then taken care of. The act of crossing over the border is illegal; it is unfair to the thousands of immigrants trying to come over to the states the legal way; this is perhaps also why the process to come over is so hard to begin with. Amnesty should not be granted because it would only worsen conditions for those already in the states; illegal immigrants should not gain access to social security benefits; if they have been paying for it to begin with it is because the only way they could be paying for it is through the use of some one elses stolen ssc number; if they came over illegally they did not have one to begin with; why give them something they did not earn? Illegal immigrants would take advantage of welfare and medical aid; it just doesn’t seem fair to give those that are illegal get better benefits than those that are already here. We are also suffering; the USA has fallen into a state of job......
