Dr. Pepper

...America (History of Dr Pepper), Dr Pepper is all of those past slogans, and more. It's the greatest soft drink on the planet, and it will stand the test of time. Dr Pepper has come a long way from Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas back in 1885. According to the Dr Pepper Museum website, under “History of Dr Pepper”, the inventor was Charles Alderton, who was a young pharmacist working in the drug store. In his spare time, he had a hobby of mixing carbonated beverages for customers. Apparently, he loved the smell of the drug store so much, with all the fruit flavored smells in the air, that he wanted to create a carbonated drink that captured the scent of the store. After a few tests, Alderton finally became satisfied with his flavor, and offered a sample to his boss, Wade Morrison, who loved it. Alderton soon became confident enough to offer his new drink to his customers, who, in return, offered positive feedback. Dr Pepper officially became a soft drink on December 1, 1885 (History of Dr Pepper). While Morrison is credited as given Dr Pepper the name, the meaning behind the name remains a mystery with a lot of theories. One theory is that Morrison named the drink after his friend, Dr. Charles T. Pepper. There is a legend that Morrison was in love with Pepper's daughter, and that Morrison named the beverage after Pepper for giving him permission to marry his daughter. The theory is doubtful, though, due to the fact that at the time Dr Pepper was......

Dr Kevorkian

...inject your-self with something or swallow a pill, obviously hoping to have a “good death” jumping of a high building would not be the best choice. Nowadays when we think of euthanasia we instantly envision Dr. Jack Kevorkian. If this name is not sounding familiar then you may be one of the lucky few that have been able to escape reality and has been submerged in a fantasy land for the past several years. Dr. Kevorkian is thought to be an angel from god, put here on earth for one purpose, to serve mankind by many people. Yet others think he is the most evil villain, or the devil’s advocate. Me personally I could only hope that if I am to be diagnosed terminally ill, there is someone out there that will help me end my suffering. Derek Humphry the founder of Hemlock society wrote a book called Dying with Dignity, and within this book he was quoted: “A caring society… offers euthanasia to a hopeless sick person as an act of love.” However he also states that he is strongly against suicide for those that are severely depressed, hoping to escape their personal hell, euthanasia was meant for those out there suffering from a terminal disease or so severely handicap that it would be considered merciful. (Humphry 17) There are many issues Dr. Kevorkian has faced medical ethics being a huge one. I was confused when I first started researching; I thought physician-assisted suicide and physician-assisted death were one and the same. I was wrong, so to......

...“The Lasting Power of Dr. King’s Dream Speech.” - Michiko Kakutani “Obama is not Black like Dr. King.” - Chrystal Wright 1. If I Google Michiko Kakutani, words such as: the worst critic and top meanest reviews come up. Michiko Kakutani is known for her harsh literary critiques on books. She is a graduate of Yale University and has many years of working experience with the New York Times, Time Magazine, and Washington Post. Therefore giving her a substantial amount of credit when she makes any comment towards any literary work. Crystal Wright, a triple minority: black, a woman, and Republican. Also very well educated. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and Masters from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is known as a columnist and political commentator. These characteristics are very important to know when understanding the message sender of each article. 2. During the article, Michiko describes what happened during the March on Washington. She describes the event, its purpose, and how the event fifty years later, still has effect on society. During the article, she crosses the point that Dr. King knew it would not be easy to meet ends with social injustice and the economic hardships experienced by many, but did not foresee a black president celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of his speech. This brings me to Crystal Wright whom has received public attention for her article in regards to the March on Washington. Which I would......

Dr. Nugget

...Professor Harding October 3, 2014 As the practice manager at Dr. Nugget’s obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) medical practice, I have created a huge dilemma, and an unethical decision to take the patient’s medical records home. But, this is all started with Dr. Nugget also making an unethical decision to participate in abortion procedures. which he advertises that he would never condone such a practice. And his patients and medical practice are built on his so strong abortion beliefs. But this was all a lie. Putting aside my personal feelings about abortion, I feel Dr. Nugget lying about his beliefs on abortion, and standing by them so strongly, is the major issue in the case. Also, Dr. Nugget is a shareholder in the abortion clinic where he sends patient referrals quite often. But the case is also built on my wrong doing by taking a patient’s medical records out of the clinic and to my home, which is a Health Information Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) violation. And then when having company over to my house for a visit, I left the medical records in plain view on my dinner table, for anyone to see, which did occur. My visitor then reads a medical chart on his ex-girlfriend. Then the medical information on that patient becomes public in the local newspaper. The patient is outraged, which she has a right to be. As the practicing manger of medical clinic, I did not handle the situation with Dr. Nugget’s false advertisement of condoning abortion in his clinic,...

Dr. Faustus

...British Literature Is Dr. Faustus a Magician or is he a scientist? Dr. Faustus is a fascinating character, mainly because he is easily misunderstood. He makes lots of astonishing things happen throughout the text but leaves the reader wondering whether these mysterious acts are rooted in science or magic. Throughout my reading, I changed my mind constantly on whether these strange occurrences were a result of magical powers or just scientific discoveries. There are three specific things he does that made me feel like it was more than science behind his actions. First, he uses trickery throughout the story. Second, there are numerous magical events presented throughout the story. And lastly, he sold his soul to Lucifer that helped him gain the powers of which he uses, so that especially makes me feel that it is not science behind his actions. This last example ultimately helped me to come to the decision that Dr. Faustus is a magician and not a scientist. Dr. Faustus sells his soul to Lucifer in exchange for the assurance that the devil will continuously be at his beck and call. Now, with this newfound power that he obtained, he began to travel. His first stop was the Pope’s court in Rome. After he makes himself invisible, he plays a series of tricks! The invisibility, as well as the tricks, were both sheer signs of magic, and not science! He does this as a sort of prank; he is trying to aggravate people using his tricks. Another occurrence in the text that helped me......

Dr. Mengele

...a slight chance of survival. To the other side, lay instant death in the gas chambers. The frightening figure making this decision was, frequently, Josef Mengele, one of the doctors assigned to Auschwitz.  It is now apparent that he must have started young and tortured animals when he was much younger in age. During WWII, the holocaust heavily impacted millions of lives, especially the people who were brutally experimented on by Dr. Joseph Mengele, who was not a simple human being. Many died and those who survived lived their painful lives with severe medical problems. The Angel of Death was created when he went to the University of Frankfurt to study medicine and then went to the army. Both of which were an extremely important part in his sadistic experiments hence the medical background and the love for “Nazism. After the war, Mengele was so scared of all the bad things he had done as well as his experiments that he fled Germany after they lost?? What Joseph Mengele did at Auschwitz, left his victims scarred both physically and mentally. Dr. Joseph Mengele was brought to this earth by Karl and Walburga Mengele in the Bavarian village of Gunzburg. He was the oldest of three children and was followed by his two younger brothers. From all accounts Karl Mengele was a harsh and distant man, one whose main concern in life was the pursuit of his fortune. Karl had a factory that manufactured and made farm tools and equipment. He was never at home since he was too busy at......

Dr. Seuss

...Professor: Enc 1102; MWF 9:00am 4/8/10 Dr. Seuss Theodor Seuss Geisel, known by his friends and family as Ted and better know by the world as Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was born to Theodor Robert and Henrietta Seuss Geisel. His family was very financially successful until Prohibition and World War I halted their success. His father and grandfather were brew masters in the city and the threats of prohibition caused them some financial hardships. Despite the financial bump in the road, Ted and his sister Marnie had a very loving family and an enjoyable childhood. In Ted’s early years his mother would recite to him chants she made up at her job in a bakery during her youth. Dr. Seuss later gave credit to his mother “for the rhythms in which I write and the Urgency with which I do it.” (Morgan) After high school Ted attended Dartmouth College where he experienced the life of a typical college student. Through hard work he became the editor in chief of Jack-O-Lantern, the humor magazine sold by the college. Not long after earning this position he managed to lose it for partying a little too hard. He and his roommate were caught drinking with ten other students in their dorm room at the Randall House. This party violated the laws of prohibition and the policies of the school and was not taken well since the incident happened the night before Easter Sunday. Ted continued to write for the magazine despite losing his position as......
