Students taking a scholarship examination inside a classroom in 1940
Ancient China was the first country in the world that implemented a nationwide standardized test, which was called the imperial examination. The main purpose of this examination was to select for able candidates for specific governmental positions.[4] The imperial examination was established by the Sui Dynasty in 605 AD and was later abolished by the Qing Dynasty 1300 years later in 1905. England had adopted this examination system in 1806 to select specific candidates for positions in Her Majesty's Civil Service, modeled on the Chinese imperial examination. This examination system was later applied to education and it started to influence other parts of the world as it became a prominent standard (e.g. regulations to prevent the markers from knowing the identity of candidates), of delivering standardized tests.

Influence of World Wars on Testing

Both World War I and World War II made many people realize the necessity of standardized testing and the benefits associated with these tests. One main reason people saw the benefits was from the Army Alpha and Army Beta tests, which were used during WWI to determine human abilities. Alongside the Army Alpha, the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale "added momentum to the testing movement."[5] Soon after, colleges and industry began using tests to help in accepting and hiring people based on performance of the test.

Another reason more tests began to come forth was that people were realizing that the distance between secondary education and higher education was widening after WWII. In 1952, the first Advanced Placement (AP) test was administered to begin closing the gap between high schools and colleges.[6]

Factors That Affect the Study Habits of the Students

...com/essay-on/Research-Paper-Regarding-Study-Habit/61940 Chapter 1 Introduction As the year level of students in school becomes higher, their study habits differ from time to time. The kind of study habits they have shows the differences or improvements in how they become skilled and earnest about learning new things. Studying does not only include the preparation of students to excel in class but also the reinforcements of the lessons already taught. It is merely reviewing and committing to mind new information. Furthermore, study habits can be derived as buying out a dedicated scheduled and un-interrupted time to apply one’s self to the task of learning. Factors That Affect Study Habits of College Students

...5 Little-Known Factors that Could Affect Your Study Habits 1. Weather. Seriously. You can’t control the weather—but you can stay aware of how it affects you, both positively and negatively. A sunshiney day is going to put you in a positive mood, but it could also be contributing to your urge to procrastinate and go play. On a gloomy, rainy day, time can sometimes feel like it’s slipping away—and with it, your study hours. And it’s not just emotional: bad weather, bad roads, and delayed buses can screw up your whole schedule. All of these factors are things to make notes of and plan for when it comes to arranging your day, and your study time. 2. Your social life. It’s important to have good people in your life to help keep you balanced, because you can’t dedicate your entire emotional well-being to your medical specialties training. But it’s also too easy to let the balance slip. Try to strike a sane, healthy equilibrium between being a social butterfly and being a shut-in. It’ll help keep you focused and emotionally stable, and both things are vital to your success as a student. 3. Your health. Sometimes it feels like the only way to squeeze in all the time you need in a day is to chug coffee and spend all your extra cash on sugar-stuffed energy drinks and candy. But while that’s good for short-term energy, over the long term the sugar rush, sugar crash cycle affects your overall health, concentration, and energy reserves—which means your studies suffer. Take care......

In Teaching, Every educator must master his/her lesson plan. And everything that a teacher will teach to his student must be based on her own learning and experiences. Every teacher has their own way of providing knowledge to their students. They have their techniques in teaching for the student to better understand everything about their lesson. There are so many factors that affect students’ performance, and it includes the way of how the teachers communicate to their students (Cuevas, 1991). Longman (1996), emphasized that the instructor’s behaviour affects the student’s performance. She stressed that an instructor should try to be fair and impartial to all students. She added that the instructor’s behaviour or attitudes influence the attitudes of the students. For this, an instruction should possess both personal and professional qualities, which are pertinent in classroom setting. The personality of the teacher may affect the academic performance of his student. ...Virgin Mary, pictures of deceased relatives and other persons, scores of candles and an ofrenda. Traditionally, families spend some time around the altar, praying and telling anecdotes about the deceased. In some locations, celebrants wear shells on their clothing, so that when they dance, the noise will wake up the dead; some will also dress up as the deceased. Public schools at all levels build altars with ofrendas, usually omitting the religious symbols. Government offices usually have at least a small altar, as this holiday is seen as important to the Mexican heritage. Those with a distinctive talent for writing sometimes create short poems, called calaveras ("skulls"), mocking epitaphs of friends, describing interesting habits and attitudes or funny anecdotes. This custom originated in the 18th or 19th century, after a newspaper published a poem narrating a dream of a cemetery in the future, "and all of us were dead", proceeding to "read" the tombstones. Newspapers dedicate calaveras to public figures, with cartoons of skeletons in the style of the famous calaveras of José Guadalupe Posada, a Mexican illustrator. Theatrical presentations of Don Juan Tenorio by José Zorrilla (1817–1893) are also traditional on this day. A common symbol of the holiday is the skull (colloquially called calavera), which celebrants represent in masks, called calacas (colloquial term for "skeleton"), and foods such as sugar or chocolate skulls, which are inscribed with the......

Factors That Affecting Student Study Habit

...Factors Affecting Study Habits of Students In: People Factors Affecting Study Habits of Students Chapter I Introduction Research Background Teachers are educators that teach us what we must learn. They are one of the most inspiring people not only in school but also within our nation. They help us to achieve our goals and dreams in life, and the ones who shape every person’s character. We consider them as our second parents who guide and lead us to the right path. And it truly proves that all educators are such a magnificent person. According to Benito (2000), the best hope for education lies with the teacher; his education is of primary importance. She explained that the quality of education the teacher has to transmit to his students largely depends on the quality of his education. The teacher’s best teaching device is herself (Adams, 1994). It follows then that in order to be an effective communication of knowledge; the teacher should have sufficient background of the subject matter that he/she teaches. ...the USA: Regulations Keeping Jobs Overseas?” The reason behind this article was trying to bring as many jobs back to America as possible. Why would companies come back to America one it would cost them more money, second it will take longer to develop millions of products. Companies outsource to other countries because one their parts and labor is cheap and second they will get it done faster than the average Americans. These countries that we send them too China, Indonesia, Vietnam and etc.… are considered slavery country or in other terms third world countries. The reason labor is cheap over there is because of inflation and how other countries use their currency by keep producing more money which decrease their values. According, to studies third world countries that are lower class are less likely to be successful in their lives or the children lives. Like people say the richer get richer and the poor stay poor. Over the last four years the United States have brought back 100,000 jobs which is a huge deal in this country because that leave 100,000 less people to be unemployed. Also, one of our biggest manufacturing countries in the world “China” has been increasing their price every year. The have increased it about 18% each year which means the US would have to pay more in labor cost after shipping cost which leads them with a smaller profit margin. Another reason why the economy is going up is stores like Wal-mar, Target, Kohl’s Macy, and TJX are trying to......

Factors Affecting Study Habits of Students

...Downloaded by [COMSATS Headquarters] at 14:24 22 October 2015 b Improving teaching in higher education is a concern for universities worldwide. This study explored academics’ developmental processes in teaching using episodic interviews and teaching portfolios. Eight academics in the context of teaching development reported changes in their teaching and change triggers. Thematic analyses revealed seven areas of change: participants most frequently reported changes in concepts about teaching, their teaching selves and teaching strategies. Triggers of change clustered into eight categories with teaching practices, teaching courses and metacognition reported most frequently. Analysing relations among areas and triggers of change indicated complex dynamics in academics’ developmental processes in teaching. This suggests that teaching development should incorporate multiple change triggers to facilitate academics’ development in teaching effectively. Keywords: academic teaching; academics; change; higher education; professional development; teacher development; trigger Introduction Improving teaching in higher education has become a global concern, as the changing landscape of higher education requires academics to provide meaningful learning opportunities for larger and more diverse groups of students. As a result, many higher education institutions provide teaching development programmes for academics (Ginns, Kitay, & Prosser, 2010). To facilitate......

...achieve stability and balance by adjustments and adaptations that are successful to some degree for efficient and effective functioning. The system is usually flexible enough to accommodate the influences affecting it. Therefore, it is well-explained that through little efforts on modifying a student’s habits in studying, they can develop an organized pattern of behavior useful to their goal of becoming a successful student who has good academic performances. This theory clearly supports this study that study habits are relevant to academic performance. As it is said in the study of Crede and Kuncel (2008), study habit, skill, and attitude inventories and constructs were found to rival standardized tests and previous grades as predictors of academic performance, yielding substantial incremental validity in predicting academic performance. Study motivation and study skills exhibit the strongest relationships with both grade point average and grades in individual classes. Academic specific anxiety was found to be an important negative predictor of performance. In addition, significant variation in the validity of specific inventories is shown. Scores on traditional study habit and attitude inventories......
