Business 100 Assignment 1

...Assignment 1: The Business Environment TaMarcus Murchison Dr. Awa BUS 100 --- Introduction to Business February 6, 2013 Businesses are the growth engine of the most successful economy. Because we have a capitalistic economy, business is the main component of it. Business is in every corner of every sector of the market. Most everything you can possibly think of that relates to the economy is business. Retail, services, agriculture, manufacturing, health care, even political campaigning all involves business. Even when civilizations were based on an agricultural type of economy, business transactions occurred.  For example, in an agricultural society based solely on farming, there would be different types of farming taking place. If one farmer grew coconuts, and his neighbor had cattle, they would probably trade coconuts and milk with each other. This is just a practical business transaction to make. If they did not barter in this way, one would be forced to go without milk and the other would be forced to go without coconuts. This is just an illustration to point out that business takes place even on the smallest scale throughout history.  Without business, humans would have to completely fend for themselves for absolutely everything. We would have to find our own food every single day. We would have to gather materials to create shelter because there would be no store to buy them and no real estate agent to sell a house. We would have to make our own clothes out...

Music 100 Chapter 1.

...Chapter 1 Before the Trip Begins: Fundamental Issues Questions to Consider When ethnomusicologist say that “Music is universal, but it is it not a universal language” they are telling us that music may be created and heard around the world, but it is not something that everyone can describe in one way. They are saying that every place has its own interpretation of what music is and no one interpretation will suit another, plus, music could never really be used to convey a direct message that text and actual conversations would; music is not a language because it does not requires specific symbols that must be structured by law in order to convey a message. Classifying music as “classical,” “folk,” or “popular” is saying that everyone can agree on one definition of what they understand these genres to be. “Classical,” “folk,” or “popular” may mean one thing to you and I here in the United States, but somewhere in Thailand or Hawaii what they know these genres to be would differ from what we are used to. Each individual listener’s interpretation is entirely the result of cultural conditioning, therefore, we cannot generalise and expect these genres to be similar or the same to everyone else. An ethnomusicologist studies the culture behind the music while a musicologist simply studies music. Thus, an ethnomusicologist might approach the study of Western classical music differently from a musicologist because an ethnomusicologist follows precise steps to ensure their......

Assignment 1 Bus 100

...Assignment 1 BUS 100 May 16, 2012   The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD, 2010) has identified alarming levels of growth in urbanization and consumption in a new report, and describes the crucial role of business in the transition to sustainability. According to the report, "Business and Development: Challenges and Opportunities in a Rapidly Changing World," published by WBCSD (2010), "The world is experiencing a historic shift of economic and political power from the traditional base of industrialized countries to the emerging economies." As the report points out, by 2050, three of the four largest economies -- China, India, and Brazil -- will be those of countries now described as developing. As development in those and other countries intensifies, their populations will become increasingly urban. By 2050, when the world's population is expected to be about 9 billion, 70 percent of the world's population will live in urban environments, with the great majority living in cities in developing countries. "Urbanization is happening fast," the report observes, "And most of it is being poorly managed, putting hundreds of millions of the urban poor in harm's way."As the economic emergence of developing countries continues, global consumption patterns will become more critical. "Global consumption patterns and trends are putting unsustainable and increasing stress on the Earth's ecosystems, the supply of material resources needed for industrial......

Business drives up the standard of living of quality and quantity of goods and services available to a population and contributing to the higher quality of life in which is overall sense of well-being experienced by either an individual or a group. Business also helps raise the standard of living through taxes. However businesses do not only provide the products and services that people acquire, but they as well provide job opportunities that people need to survive nowadays. The evolution of business has changed a lot over the past 200 – 300 years. American businesses were divided into five distinct ears, which created a huge impact in our economy. There were The Industrial Revolution, The Entrepreneurship Era, The Production Era, Marketing Era, and The Relationship Era. The Industrial Revolution was a period of rapid industrialization during the mid-1700s to the mid-1800s. Factories hired a large amount of mediocre workers who worked only on limited number of tasks. The Entrepreneurship Era was during the second half of the 1800s. Where entrepreneurs came about building business empires, they were raising mass amounts of wealth.
