I believe that the undergraduate learning experience is a period where there is the introduction to new information. This information is embedded in subject area of concentration that is delivered by the instructor. During this undergraduate period there is a change that happens in the mind of the student as they become familiar with the subject being studied. The student begins to adjust their thinking to the principles, terms and theories of the subject. In a graduate learning community the student has a level of knowledge that is now being expanded upon. The purpose of this in my opinion is to develop a level of mastery in the subject. The student also learns how to develop a deeper understanding of the subject that exceeds that of the undergraduate student and has the ability to develop ideas based on subject mastery that can possibly progress the development in that area of study going forward. I would describe a graduate learning community as a group of students and staff that share the same interests in objectives based on an area of study; that allow these people to learn, grow and develop together. In the learning community I believe that the key elements would include a malleable structured environment for learning that permits both the instructors and students to have input in the way in which the classes are designed. Learning communities must also promote an environment that creates a thirst for knowledge based on both instructor and student perspectives that cause an increased understanding of the combination of group learning and group…...

...What Would You Do? Scenario 1- Della the Delinquent Cat Lady As the president of the board of directors of the cat shelter, I am faced with rather or not Ms. Della should remain as part of the staff at the cat shelter. There are several problems that have been brought to my attention and I feel that now is the time to figure out exactly what should be done regarding the matter. After, evaluating the situation and giving it a great deal of consideration, I have come up several solutions to the problem. One of the easier solutions would be to just let Della go. I have considered retraining Della as manager of the cat shelter, or having a sit down with Ms. Della and asking her how she thinks she is performing as manager. Also, I think that asking Ms. Della to step down as the manager and giving her a position that she can handle. Although, these may seem like the best solution to resolve the situation, I have to look at the pros and cons of any decision that I make. If I decide to let Della go, it might benefit the company in the sense that we can find someone that is really dedicated and committed to for fulfilling their position. On the hand, Della is already going through a tough time, and firing her will not only affect her, but affect her children as well whom she is trying to provide for. Retraining Della could really help her gain a better understanding as what is expected from her as a manger, and she could gain more knowledge that may help her excel as a......

Don’t reserve your best business thinking for your career. [ By C l ay t o n M . C h r i s t e n s e n ] EditOR’s NOtE: When the members of the class of 2010 entered business school, the economy was strong and their post-graduation ambitions could be limitless. Just a few weeks later, the economy went into a tailspin. They’ve spent the past two years recalibrating their worldview and their definition of success. The students seem highly aware of how the world has changed (as the sampling of views in this article shows). In the spring, Harvard Business School’s gradu- ating class asked HBS professor Clay Christensen to address them—but not on how to apply his principles and thinking to their post-HBS careers. The students wanted to know how to apply them to their personal lives. He shared with them a set of guidelines that have helped him find meaning in his own life. Though Christensen’s thinking comes from his deep religious faith, we believe that these are strategies anyone can use. And so we asked him to share them with the readers of HBR. 2 Harvard Business Review July–August 2010 CoPyRIgHT © 20104 HARvARd BUSIneSS SCHool PUBlISHIng CoRPoRATIon. What Would You Do

...Summary: Today we watched video clips from ABC’s show “What would you do?” one of situations in the video was a woman with OCD with a condition of germ phobia. She had dropped her groceries on the floor and could not purchase them for she felt they were “dirty”. The cashier was playing a roll of a not so very understanding person. He kept implying that they were not dirty and that the food was fine, one customer in line tried to explain to that OCD is Obsession Compulsive Disorder and that once something isn’t right they mentally cannot handle it. In the second situation there was a man in a liquor store with his son purchasing alcohol for a party that his son was going to have. You could tell that the son was very uncomfortable with the whole thing and that the father was pressuring him. A bunch of people disagreed with the actions the father was taking. In the final scenario a woman was breast feeding her child that was at the age of four in a coffee shop. One of the actors was playing the role as a disgusted costumer in the coffee shop and was making a big scene asking the woman to do that elsewhere. A lot of customer didn’t seem to have an issue with the woman breast feeding her child in the open public. Critique: All the scenarios had good points to them, if I was the person in line at the grocery store I would have done the same thing that the woman had done while she was in line. Some people have no courtesy and are just plain rude. It would have been quite......

How can I be sure that my relationships with my spouse and my family become an enduring source of happiness? How can I be sure I’ll stay out of jail? Cédric Chaumont_FT5 2/7 Governance and Sustainability - Paper 1 How can I be sure that I’ll be happy in my career? According to Prof. Christensen , “the powerful motivator in our lives is not money; it’s the opportunity to 1 learn, grow in responsibilities, contribute to others, and be recognized for achievements.” I totally agree with Prof. Christensen; it is important to keep in mind that finding happiness in my career has nothing to do with money and everything to do with the opportunity to learn, grow in responsibilities, contribute to others, and be recognized for achievements. As he explained as well, “Management is the most noble of professions if it’s practiced well. No other occupation offers as many ways to help others learn and grow, take responsibility and be recognized for achievement, and contribute to the success of a team.” If I want to maximize my happiness at work, I think there are some important issues to address as: What is something new I would like to learn? What project would I like to take on? How can I......

What Do You Look Forward to, as You Begin This Educational Experience and Your Personal Search for Purpose? What Is Your Greatest Fear? How Can You Overcome It? Write About One Specific Educational Experience from Your

...What I look for to as I begin this educational experience is to finish as planned and pass in flying color. My greatest fear is that I might not be able to adapt to American school system being that am from Nigeria and this is going to be my first educational experience. I plan to overcome it by asking questions especially the class instructor as well as my Nigerian friends who have gone through the program, in addition to watching the tutorial videos. Another thing I will also do is to develop a positive attitude towards my study, and  I believe with determination and self discipline, I will overcome my fear.   My past experience that I would like to share was in my high school days, I lost interest in geography because I didn't think its a requirement for nursing. When I discovered that I needed either geography or literature to pass the WASSCE(high school diploma), in other words I cannot graduate without geography since I have never attended any literature class. I realised that I had no option than to readjust myself .I had to set my mind on graduating from high school with my peers. I stopped skipping classes, I was able to attend extra classes after school hours. I participated in actively in geography excursions and presentation, my topic was on volcanic eruption. At the end, I graduated with Distinction in geography. I succeeded because, I had a set goal which to graduate with my mate and was motivated and determined by developing positive attitude....

What Is Your Idea of a Healthy Community? Provide Specific Examples. How Would You Provide Care for a Community If Your Idea of a Healthy Community Does Not Match Your Community's Definition of a Healthy Community?

...My idea of a healthy community is one where there are low crime rates and good physical and emotional health. A healthy community should promote well-being of its inhabitants in various ways such as: strong social networks, clean water, pollution-free air, affordable quality healthcare, and great schools. A healthy community is one that promotes well-being by encouraging its residents to screen for illnesses for prevention to avoid the burden of chronic disease. Education campaign should be organized to sensitize people about the most common illnesses and educate them on how to avoid them to achieve a better life. Resident should be aware of resources available to them in their community, allowing them to feel safe. In my opinion, there is a strong relationship between healthy people and strong communities. I consider the community I live in – Phoenix, Arizona - a fairly healthy community overall, compared to most. There has been an improvement in air quality since the ban of smoking in all public areas about five years ago. The community offers a multitude of hospitals and great schools districts at walking distance for residents of each community. There is also a variety of public parks and recreation areas accessible to the general public at no cost of a very small fee. But more needs to be done when it comes to the general health of the residents of Phoenix: obesity continues to be a huge problem in my community. According to Men’s Fitness Magazine (mensfitness.com,......

...joke to me. I had wanted to do it a while ago but was not sure whether I was ready physical and emotionally for it. When my friend told me about the program, she had started in November 2013 at GCU that is not as bad as I think. I became very interested right away in the program. Here I am working towards the BSN. In my final year in the ADN program, I was scared to death. That if anything go wrong and I don't graduate what I will do. With these fear in my head, I Had to rearrange everything around me. My busy Family, work schedules and personal activities to be able to accommodate my success. I had to come out of my beautiful shell now by asking questions in class, and also realize that my professor and I make a team. They are there to help me succeed in the program. I did engaged myself in discussions sessions with my peer groups, meet with my instructors one on one after lectures regarding topics that were not cleared to me and assignments. They were very helpful in all areas, like how to study for exams, websites for nxclex practice questions, and how to use rationales to study for exams. They saw that I was ready to learn and don't want to fail at all. With all these new tips that I had learned, I put all of them into proper use. I went into my final exams with so much confident and also needed less than 40% out of 100% to pass my final exams worst case scenario! I was very happy. Proper planning, prioritizing and time management are keys to being a......

Undergraduate vs Graduate

...Topic 1 reviews some of the major differences between undergraduate and graduate studies. How do you think your graduate educational experience will differ from your undergraduate experience? How would you describe a graduate learning community? What are the key components of a learning community and how might a graduate learning community differ from an undergraduate learning community? Undergraduate school: You learn what is already known. Graduate school: You learn to create new knowledge. Undergraduate and Graduate school differ in a number of ways. Age and experience, greater autonomy and less structure and campus life or a lack of campus life. How Do You Think

... HOW DO YOU THINK MARION HODLE LACKAWANNA COLLEGE ABSTRACT Are you a creative thinker? Can you be inspired to write or draw from a walk through a museum? Can you come up with a few good ideas from just lying in the grass at the park? If this is the way your mind works and how you go about solving problems then you’re a creative thinker. If you get inspirations or some of your best answers by looking up facts, reading up on subjects and linking information you already know to be true, you’re a critical thinker. Critical Thinking Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally. It’s a persons ability to engage in independent thinking. They can understand logical concepts between ideas, like linking thoughts. They can identify and construct arguments and detect common mistakes in reasoning over things. Creative thinking involves solving problems systematically. It also includes the identification and importance of ideas. Critical thinking can reflect on a person’s beliefs and values. Critical thinking is not based on how much a person knows. Even if you have a good memory and know a lot of facts it still does not mean you are a good critical thinker. A good critical thinker knows how to use his knowledge to solve problems and seek relevant sources of information. Critical thinking does not mean a person is critical or argumentative. It can also play a role in cooperation and reasoning. We use critical thinking to enhance our social situations. Some people...

What Would You Change in Your Country?

...Have you ever dreamt about the improvement of life in your country? Undoubtedly, our appetites are unlimited. People always want more. There is hardly a person in the world who is completely satisfied with economic, cultural or political situation in her country. Sometimes these dreams have a solid background and reasons, because it is impossible to build a perfect society on the territory of a chosen country. Everyone dislikes something about his native country and wants to change these disadvantages. As I speak about myself, I would rather say that I have a few ideas about this issue. I would change several things that exist in every country. When we speak about education in the USA, the UK, India or Russia, we would say that education is not a strong side of any country. People have not managed to create the ideal system of education that would help children develop their potential. In spite of the fact that such countries as the USA, the UK, Australia, Germany or France have solid material basis for education, the quality of education is still low. Very often students from the developing countries are able to compete with the US student who has graduated from the most expensive college or university. However, the material and financial background of his country is poor. Consequently, the problem is not money but the right approach towards children and education in general. I would like to make education affordable for everyone, because the level of literacy is still...

...is becoming more demanding. Patient’s health care information, medical history, and personal identification are key information that internet hackers seek. Internet intruders can come from down the street or abroad. Protecting patient’s pertinent data is becoming more and more complicated. Patients enjoy the freedom of being able to access all their pertinent medical information from all over the world. Yet, they don’t realize that many eyes are constantly watching their every move. With the freedom comes the threat of identity theft. No matter how secure a system is someone is always ahead of the game finding ways to slip through the cracks. According to Alan Paller, “there are at least 100 countries actively doing cyber-espionage (M, 2010).” In the healthcare environment you have many people accessing and using the intranet system. The IT department has the job of monitoring and blocking excess from internet sites without security clearance or certificates out of date. Unknown to the IT department is that the staff can be trying to access these sites which are not allowed. This would put the healthcare organization at risk of scripts slipping in (M, 2010). these scripts are security breaches which are used to steal patient’s personal information. Anti-virus software programs are not looking for these scripts they are looking for files. These scripts can come from social media networks which staff may be accessing. According to Dave Meilek, “most of today’s threats are......

...since the day I graduated from nursing school. It is one of the topics of conversations that I have with my parents, managers, and co-workers. Every time I planned to go back to school something always came up, and I had another excuse to put it off. “Time control is life control”, as Lake & Von Baeyer (2005) mentioned and I did not manage that my time as well. Honestly, I will be glad to scratch it off my list of goals. There is a certain weight that I have been carrying on my shoulders, and I will be glad when it is lifted off. Aside from that, I am excited to learn how to be more of a leader in this profession and the opportunities it will bring me. I’m eager to enter “the next stage of professional and personal development.” (Catalano, 2003) The thought of going back to school always scared me overall. Writing has never come easy for me. I feared that my writing assignments might not be college level material since it has been so long. Formatting papers in APA frightened me even more. Knowing that I had to take Statistics was an issue for me because I prefer learning math in a classroom with an instructor present. All these things haunted me but my greatest fear would be of failing. The way I can overcome these fears is to face the fear head on. I will address these as just fears and refocus on the positive aspects like how much better as a person this will make me. I will continue to think positively and filter out these thoughts. That is how I always approach......
