Life Cycle of Stars
The Birth of a Star
In space, there exists huge clouds of gas and dust. These clouds consist of hydrogen and helium, and are the birthplaces of new stars. Gravity causes these clouds to shrink and become warmer. The body starts to collapse under its own gravity, and the temperature inside rises. After the temperature reaches several thousand degrees, the hydrogen molecules are ionized (electrons are stripped from them), and they become single protons. The contraction of the gas and the rise in temperature continue until the temperature of the star reaches about 10,000,000 degrees Celsius (18,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit). At this point, nuclear fusion occurs in a process called proton-proton reaction. Briefly, proton-proton reaction is when four protons join together and two are converted into neutrons; an 4He nucleus is formed. During this process, some matter is lost and converted to energy as dictated by Einstein's equation. At this point, the star stops collapsing because the outward force of heat balances the gravity.

The Hydrogen Burning Stage
The proton-proton reaction occurs during a period called the hydrogen-burning state, and its length depends on the star's weight. In heavy stars, the great amount of weight puts a large amount of pressure on the core, raising the temperature and speeding up the fusion process. These heavy stars are very bright, but only live for a short amount of time. After the energy from this deuteron-hydrogen fusion process ends, the star begins to contract again, and the temperature and pressure subsequently increase. Nuclear fusion occurs between the hydrogen and lithium & other light metals in the star, but this process soon ends. The use of these plant-derived insecticides are generally pest specific, readily biodegradable and usually lack toxicity to higher animals and non-target organism (Bowers 1992).Consequently, use of these botanical derivatives in mosquito control instead of synthetic insecticides could reduce the cost and environmental pollution. Aloe vera is a perennial plant belonging to the family of Liliaceae, of which there are about 360 species (Klein and Penneys, 1988). Taxonomists now refer to Aloe barbadensis as A. vera (Coats and Ahola, 1979). Aloe is one of the few medicinal plants that maintain its popularity for a long period of time. Since time immemorial, A. vera has been used as a traditional medicinal plant and as an ingredient in many cosmetic products; it has gained high importance for its diverse therapeutic properties. Rapio Kalibo Pilot Elementary School, Kalibo, Aklan This study was conducted to determine the difference in the effectiveness of the Kakawate (Gliricidia sepium) leaves and Bignay bark (Antidesma bunius) extracts as organic mosquito larvicide.The insecticidal and antimicrobial properties of Kakawate and Bignay as well as their abundance in Aklan have motivated the researches to conduct this investigatory project, to control if not eradicate the mosquitoes and protect the people from the risk of mosquito - transmitted diseases. The three treatments were 100 grams pounded Kakawate leaves, 50 grams pounded kakawate leaves extract and 50 grams bignay bark extract and 100 grams bignay bark extract. Treatment A, with 100% kakawate leaves is somewhat effective with 22.2% level. A level of 22.2% or moderately not effective is demonstrated by the treatment B, with mixture of 50% kakawate leaves and 50% bignay extract. Treatment C with the 100% bignay extract shows 11.1% level or somewhat not effective, mildly not effective and moderately not effective.It was demonstrated that Treatment A with 100% pounded kakawate leaves with mean of 5.33 and SD of 0.5774 is slightly acceptable. Papaya mulches in different thickness were applied on plots planted with tomato in three replications. After the determined period of mulch application, the researchers application, the researchers measured the height increases of tomato plants ands the weed density in the plots. It was concluded that papaya mulch significantly promoted height increase of tomato plants and inhibited the growth of weeds. ...INTRODUCTION Seed dormancy refers to a state in which viable seeds fail to germinate when provided with conditions normally favourable to germination i.e adequate moisture, appropriate temperature regime, a normal atmosphere and in some cases light. Dormancy has evolved as a strategy to avoid germination under conditions where seedlings survival is likely to be low. Despite the fact that many researchers study dormancy, there is no unambiguous definition of the phenomenon, perhaps because it manifest and broken in different ways in different species( Bewley and Black,1994; Vleeshouwers et al.; Lange ,1996). It is a condition in which seeds will not germinate even when the conditions are permissive for germination (Braford et al;1994).This not only prevent immediate germination but also regulates the time, condition and place that germination will occur. The process of germination starts with imbibition which is the uptake of water by the dry, followed by the activation of enzyme and ends with the elongation of the radicle. The imbibition stage is a crucial process as it is the first event that moves the seed from a dry, quiescent, dormant organism to the resumption of embryo growth (Bewley, 1997).The breaking of the quiescent and subsequent germination depends on the sufficiency of oxygen, proper amount of water and suitable temperature (Parker, 2000). The penetration of water to the seed coat causes the hard and dry tissues inside to soften. This speeds up the seed metabolism, allowing the water to move quicker as the seed coat splits open. Once the seed are imbibed, the action of enzyme (amylase) takes place (Fenner & Thompson, 2005). It begins during the lag phase of water uptake. The role of enzyme in seed germination is to mobilize nutrients to the growing region of the embryo. Germination of seed is considered complete upon the emergence of radicles from the seed (Copeland, 1999). Germination only occurs when the seed plant is exposed to a favorable condition.
