...Russian Culture and Human Resource Management Thad Lopez Saint Leo University Human Resource Management (HRM) as described by Ivancevich & Konopaske (2013) is the function performed in organizations that effectively uses employees to achieve both organizational and individual goals. Throughout the years HRM has evolved domestically influenced by both business and social events leaving behind a renewed emphasis on human capital. Today’s environment requires business leaders to focus on the financial returns of the company as well as the contributions of strategic HRM to that end. Organizations are continuing to scan the business environment looking for opportunities creating value and differentiation. Increased evidence points to an engaged workforce as a competitive advantage for many companies and more than ever these organizations are looking to expand internationally. Successful global organizations have come to understand that western theories of HRM may not apply to other cultures and as a result have found ways to remain strategic with HRM outside of their domestic borders. Russian culture is primary example where HRM practices must be evaluated in the context of Russian culture and values. Global Human Resource Management (GHRM) refers to the policies and practices that relates to managing people internationally and according to Ivancevich & Konopaske (2013) the external environment of the international organization is one of the most......

The Marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet

...The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet The definition of a good marriage is the perception of the judge. When considering who is to blame for the Bennet's marriage, it must be said that it depends on which perspective is being considered. Jane Austen's portrayal of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet's union leads us to believe this was not a match made in Heaven. However, if the marriage is looked at from different perspectives such as; Mr. Bennet’s, Mrs. Bennet’s, circumstance, or society’s, they provide opposing views of happiness and who is to blame in the absence of joy. After all are considered, is the marriage that bad? A person’s reasons to get married are essential in determining whether or not they can be happy. Society dictated that the Bennet's marriage was contractually imperative for both of them. Mrs. Bennet wanted to be secure and accepted a proposal that she thought would be acceptable. Mr. Bennet wanted a wife to take care of his needs and give him children, preferably a son. Both were tolerable to the other in the beginning and entered into the marriage with freewill. Early in the novel we learn the Bennet's marriage is portrayed as ill-fitted. They appear to be two opposites in humor, character, tact and priorities. In Chapter 1 we read: Mr. Bennet was so odd a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice, that the experience of three-and-twenty years had been insufficient to make his wife understand his character. Her......

So, when I was 16 years old, I joined the club and after two years I was assigned the position of Secretary. My roles as a Secretary were varied: I was maintaining club records, I was taking minutes at the meetings, I was submitting documents to the sponsoring Lions Club on a regular basis. I also had to maintain the officers’ list, the committee appointments, the attendance records and the rosters of the services we provided. After 2 years I became the Vice President and now I am at my first mandate of presidency: I have to manage club and board meetings and mentor other Club Officers on their responsibilities. Furthermore, I have to participate to different “Leo Club Conferences”. These......

Dear Mr and Mrs

...Dear Mr. and Mrs. ????? Bryan Kelly COM200: Interpersonal Communication Instructor Angela Gillette 8/15/2011 Dear Mr. and Mrs. ?????, First off, let me welcome you to a brand new world of love, care, family bonds and holy matrimony. My name is Bryan Kelly, and I am going to give you an idea of how interpersonal communication is going to affect your lives, and the skills/knowledge you will need in order to find yourselves together and still happy 50 years down the road. Marriage today seems, to some, to be a fly-by-night operation. I stand here today writing you to let you know that this does not have to be the case. If you two are willing to take suggestions and follow a simple set of rules based on a health relationship built on proper interpersonal communication, then you have a chance to find yourself happy and in love for some time to come. Communication is the keystone to any strong relationship. In order to truly understand ourselves and our loved ones, we must first understand the way that we interact in our day to day intermingling. Explain the principles and misconceptions in effective interpersonal communications. In the textbook Making Connections: Understanding Interpersonal Communication(Sole, 2011), we are shown that there are six basic principles at play regarding Human communications. First, we are told that communication is symbolic. Second, we are shown that communication is shared meaning. Third,......

Mrs Pinchwife

...are introduced to the characters Alithea; pinchwife's sister, and Mrs Pinchwife; pinchwife's wife. In the last scene that Pinchwife appeared in (act 1 scene 1) the audience have learned that he is a jealous person so they immediately expect this to become all the more apparent in this scene. In historical context, back in the 1600's being made a cuckold was every husbands biggest fear, and in the character of Pinchwife this is highlighted. Also in the theatre of the 1600's there would have been a back row where you would sit if you didn't want to be seen, Pinchwife make he and his wife sit here on purpose because he doesn't want any of the young fop of the city to see his beautiful wife; he's an overprotective and jealous man. During this scene Mrs Pinchwife asks her husband to take her to the theatre so she can see the sights of the city because she has never seen them before (she's a country wife), to which Pinchwife reacts very negatively as his sister has filled his wife's head with ideals and dreams of city life; exactly what he wanted to keep Mrs Pinchwife away from. My interpretation of the character of Mrs Pinchwife is that she's a very naive person who has missed out on an exciting early life due to her husbands jealousy, but I could see her easily becoming manipulated by the likes of Horner because of how unexposed she has been to city life, she's too innocent and vulnerable. The character of Mrs Pinchwife in this scene would be a challenge to play due to her......

Leo Xii

...Pope Leo XIII Pope Leo XIII was born Vincenzo Pecci in Italy in 1810. When he was studying at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, he gave a presentation to many bishops about papal judgments, which received much praise and caught the attention of some Vatican officials. This was one of his first steps towards eventually become the Pope. Within ten years of this presentation, Pecci was ordained a priest and named a papal assistant (Bengini). He continued to work his way up in the Church and eventually in 1878, he was elected to be the Pope. He chose the name Leo in honor of Pope Leo XII, whom he admired very much. During his time at the Vatican he became the oldest to ever serve as Pope, holding the title until he passed away at the age of 93 (D’Ambrosio). During his time as the Pope, he made no radical changes to cannon law however he helped to modernize some of the church’s thoughts and beliefs. He saw the issues that people of his time had to deal with and he helped to bring justice to the situations (Bengini). At the time of his papacy, the world was experiencing an industrial revolution. Technology was rapidly changing, which in turn changed the way that people lived. The economy of many nations began to change their focus from agriculture to industry. Factories began production everywhere and employed many men, women, and children. This new trend brought many benefits to society as well as many problems (Stearns). In these factories, people would usually work......

Leo Not Winning an Oscar

...Mariah Henley Mrs. Brady English 4A Pd. 5 11 February 2015 Why Hasn't Leonardo DiCaprio Won an Oscar? Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated to win an Oscar quite a few times, but he has yet to win against his competition and take home the award. What exactly is keeping someone who has been acting for twenty years from winning an Oscar? DiCaprio deserves to win an Oscar despite the fact that he has a rowdy behavior outside of acting, the roles he takes on aren't jaw-dropping, and that he's picky with the movies he will be in. Now that Leonardo is making $20 million per movie and is a single forty-year-old rich man, he takes his fame for granted and gets in trouble at huge parties and has been since he was a teenager. Tom Beer, author of the expose "Leonardo DiCaprio: Back in the Game," wrote, "He was partying in the clubs, he was picking fights with basketball players, he was dating every supermodel in sight." Beer's statement proves that DiCaprio is out of control and that people are starting to notice his ridiculous behavior. The Academy pays attention to celebrities and their actions outside of filming. Many people assume that just because a person is acting like an animal, they won't get the opportunity to receive an Oscar. In DiCaprio's defense, I don't think his personal life should determine whether or not he wins an award. Dedication and hardwork should be what gets recognized, not the decisions an adult is making outside of his career. DiCaprio has taken on...

Mr Brooks

...“Mr. Brooks” I chose to do my term paper on the film “Mr. Brooks.” The Plot of the Film consists of the main character; Earl Brooks who is played by Kevin Costner, owner of a successful box business, who is married to a devoted wife, which they have a loving daughter together and love unconditionally. But Mr. Brooks has a terrible secret that he has been able to hide from everyone. That terrible secret happens to be that he is a psychopathic serial killer who is known in media as the “Thumbprint Killer.” Being a wealthy, successful businessman recently honored by the Portland, Oregon, Chamber of Commerce as "Man of the Year" as well as a philanthropist no one has ever suspected him. Being unable to control his horrific addiction, Brooks gives in to his sadistic, all too real alter ego “Marshall” played by William Hurt. A pesky, voyeuristic witness “Mr. Smith,” played by Dane Cook catches him in the act of his latest crime. The rush that Mr. Smith felt after seeing Mr. Brooks brutally kill a couple he used to watch and take pictures of while engaging in sexual activities has set him on a path of destruction and he is taking all the wrong steps to get there. Then there’s the detective, “Tracy Atwood,” played by Demi Moore who has been on the case for quite some time without Mr. Brooks knowledge of it adds a few twists and turns to an already terrifying game of cat and mouse. The way the script has been written, is a “moral” one. You have a man, “Mr. Brooks” who is......
