...Accounting Systems Jeremy Void BSA 310 August 27,2012 Ivon Young Accounting Systems These days it is especially important to pay attention to details when it comes to deciding if your accounting system is providing the kind of information that may be required of you to produce. I think legal requirements and government regulations are becoming more demanding as to what they expect to see if someone such as the I.R.S. were to show up and ask for an audit. I would like to talk a little about a few of the key features, core technology, benefits, and costs of installing and maintaining an efficient accounting system and some of the benefits it would be to your company, especially in areas where details are crucial. Like the existing accounting system that you have all probably gotten used to here at Kudler, a new accounting system would be set up the same way; by modules. Each module would be more comprehensive and attentive to details that have been apparently overlooked by the present system. In the way of features, I could say that it is the most important overall feature a new system could offer this company. New technology has provided for faster, more detailed and organized data auditing and reporting. This is essential in today’s business world to keep accurate, itemized data entries in order to satisfy government business regulations such as standards set by the I.R.S. Detailed information is especially critical for a company like Kudler, whose business......

...Accounting System Paper Kyle Davis BSA/310 5/13/2013 William Zhang / Instructor In the business world today, it is crucial to have some type of accounting system, a system that will coincide with all aspects of a business and can be integrated with all information systems. REMS which stands for Retail Enterprise Management System is a modular system that consists of a General ledger, Asset management and accounting, Accounts Payable, Bank Reconciliation and Point of Sale modules. Kudler Fine Foods has will be hiring a firm (consulting) to help with the installation of this system. To be cost effective the Asset Management and Accounting module have not been purchased just as of yet. Reason being, all of their stores that they have are on long term leases therefore whatever remaining assets KFF has can be controlled by the use of a spreadsheet. The purpose of a general ledger is to keep track of a company’s account, any transaction details from accounts receivable and payable, payroll as well as any other departments of KFF. This general ledger will have a dual purpose of keeping track of any non- financial accounts for KFF. These accounts consist of department sales and inventory, department and store headcount. Based on the intranet site of Kudler, the general ledger module has financial reports. Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Balance Sheets and Income Statement are just a few of the ledger modules that it has. With that in...

...Contrast the logical and the physical view of data and discuss why separate views are necessary in database applications. Describe which perspective is most useful for each of the following employees: a programmer, a manager, and an internal auditor. How will understanding logical data structures assist you when designing and using database systems?</para></question><question id="ch04ques02" label="4.2"> Databases are possible because of their database management system (DBMS). As shown in Figure 4.2, the DBMS is a software program that sits between the actual data stored in the system and the application programs that use the data. As shown in Figure 4.4, this allows users to separate the way they view the data (called the logical view) from the way the data is actually stored (the physical view). The DBMS interprets the users' requests and retrieves, manipulates, or stores the data as needed. The two distinct views separate the applications from the physical information, providing increased flexibility in applications, improved data security, and ease of use. In a database system, the manager will rarely need to understand or be familiar with the physical view of the data. Nor, in most instances, will the internal auditor and the programmer as most everything they do involves the logical view of the data. If accountants understand logical data structures and the logical view of the data,......

New Lease Accounting Standards

...Edward Logie Accounting 304_01 10/28/2015 Writing Assignment 5 New Lease Accounting Standard On October 7 the FASB held it last decision meeting on their new lease accounting convergence project. The project is a joint project between the FASB and the IASB to change how leases would be recognized. Before leases may or may not have to be recognized on the lessee’s books. The new rule would require lessee to recognize the assets no matter what. The FASB originally was looking to implement the new standard by the end of 2015, but that will not happen. The transition will most likely take place somewhere in 2019. In the article “Lease Accounting Standard New Start Date Likely 2019” they talk about the difficulties faced by companies with this change. The first being that this change comes right along with the changes in revenue recognition, making this a balancing act become for companies to update to the new standards. Second most companies are not ready to take on this change. As stated in the article “Last year Deloitte found that almost 80% of the executives it surveyed were not ready for the standard, citing the quality of data, the complexity of compliance, and a lack of confidence in IT systems as the main concerns for companies.” The reason why I picked this article is because in class we most of the time take about the reasoning and methods and accounting entries that happen with transactions and how changes in practice affect how we recognize these......

They promised security to their user base and even touted a “trusted security” award but they failed to live up to their promise. “The Impact Team” claimed “Nobody was watching. No security. Only thing was segmented network. You could use Pass1234 from the internet to VPN to root on all servers.” Ashley Madison put a target on their own back but never even considered additional security measures to protect their user’s personal information in the event of a cyber-attack. It is known that they did at least encrypt passwords but they were underprepared and did not understand the flaws in their security system until it was too late. Following the leak, many databases popped up which archived the stolen data so anyone and everyone could look up an email to see if it was associated with the website which lead to many tears, pain, shame, and embarrassment for anyone unfortunate enough to have their personal information publicly displayed for the world to see. As a result, a $567 million class-action lawsuit has been filed against the owners of Ashley Madison by those affected from this data breach. In conclusion, Ashley Madison failed to make security a priority when they had 32 million user’s personal and financial information in the palm of their hands and many people were hurt as a result. They should have had penetration testing and......

In normal operations, the aging report is used to provide information to the collections department, to decide whether to write-off accounts, to determine which should be turned over to an attorney, to make credit decisions for existing customers (example: change their credit status to prepayment rather than credit), to compare to the past and to generally assess the effectiveness of credit policies. 4. ...Cookies: Accounting Systems to Determine Product Costs ACC 561 5 May 2011 Cookies: Accounting Systems to Determine Product Costs Every company in the world is either selling something for a profit or on its way to going out of business. Successful businesses will “cost” their products or services to determine the best business mix while continuously striving for sustained optimization or improvement. This includes but is not limited to production methods, labor, quantity determinations, and selling prices. Aunt Connie’s Cookies carved its niche in the dessert market with delicious lemon crème and real mint cookies. While moving forward in determining product costs and optimal business plans for her cookies, accounting systems could provide a substantial edge. Advertising and price reduction are two complimentary techniques to increase volume of sales. While they both reduce the contribution margin for the product in question, the overall sales quantity increase could supersede the reduction of contribution margin per unit. This of course, is the desired effect: to achieve maximum profitability at an acceptable level of quality. More pertinently, this is a critical insertion point for accurate cost accounting systems and sales predictions. While an overall picture of fixed and variable costs for a company is helpful, those same costs traced and allocated to specific products is more strategic. A modular or product-based look at contribution margins could aid......
