...Case Study For Organizational Behavior Submitted by: Varun Paruchuri BM11059 OB Case Study Joining XLRI after having worked in an organization (Infosys) for close to three years is one of the best things that have happened to me in my life. I was filled with boundless joy and happiness when I got to know that I had made it to XLRI. After having joined here, I was very happy to come back to studying and college life again. Everything here was excellent, the infrastructure, the faculty and the environment to learn. Subjects like Organizational Behavior highlighted the importance of being not only a good manager who is very good technically but also a good human being before anything else. It aimed to create responsible individuals who are sensible, knowledgeable and are good citizens in the society to whom everybody can look up to in their lives. Various topics were taught to us in the class and the point was driven home through effective use of real life examples, creative games and other modern teaching tools. The focus was not on the marks scored in the exam but on the learning and experience gained in the classroom. I have collated the learning’s that I have gained during the course of my stint with OB (I sincerely hope this is not the last one) below. I’m sure that as you read along, you would notice a certain trend in the learning and it indicates my progression gradually...

Ob Challege

...Organizational Behaviour Individual case, assignment 1: Defining a Challenge What is the challenge or problem you are facing or want to study that is related to OB, management or leadership? I’m founder of a little firm based in Italy, after 6 years, started from scratch, I have 4 employees and they work from Vicenza, my city, where the firm is based. We did 500K in sales in 2015. The problem I’m facing is that I’m far from the firm and my employees know it, I need to motivate and empower them in order to leverage the quality and the efficiency of the workflow. I need to be able to rely on them because I can’t be present every day and they are the biggest part of the firm, I’m 1 person and they are 4 (they could be more within the end of the year) Why is this important to organizations? It’s important because every organization, for definition, it’s composed by more than one person, and there isn’t enough time to do all of the task on your own. That’s means that you are forced to delegate to others. The problem is that without the right commitment and power of the people of your firm, it’s almost impossible to succeed in the competitive arena. Identify the other stakeholders involved in this challenging situation. In order to do so I need to interact with my employees and most in general with all of the company’s stakeholders, I have to motivate work force but at the same give us the best environment they could find in a firm. ...

Week 1 Reflection on Ob and Business

...Self-Reflection Week 1 This week I have learned a lot about organizational behavior, organizational effectiveness, and high performance work practices. I have learned what organizational behavior is, and why it is important. It was interesting to compare the company I currently work for to these theories and how they are following these practices. Organizational behavior is described by our text as “the study of what people think, feel, and do in and around organizations” (McShane & Von Glinow, 2010). People study OB for at least 4 reasons. First, it satisfies the need to understand and predict. Second, it helps to test personal theories. Third, it helps to influence behavior and get things done. Fourth, it helps improve an organizations financial health. I learned about the four perspectives of organizational effectiveness. I compared the High Performance Work Practices (HPWPs) from the text to Speedway, which is also the company I currently work for. The HPWP perspective states that effective organizations leverage the human capital potential of their employees. Specific practices have been identified as: employee involvement and job autonomy, employee competence, and performance-based rewards. Speedway regularly involves their employees in projects and activities. They ask employees to complete surveys to provide opinions and input. Speedway also tries to provide job autonomy. Each employee has an opportunity for advancement. There are training guides provided to......
