Life

...ricky james LA p.3 20 October 2013 Life Narrative I think that my life’s story can best be told by first talking about both of my parent’s upbringings, which have influenced their personalities and how they raised me. My dad was born on Christmas Eve, 1969, to Harry and Valerie Piper. For about seven years, they lived together happily in Long Lake, Minnesota. Everything changed when he entered first grade. His parents divorced, and while his dad stayed in Minnesota, his mom moved to Chatham, Massachusetts, taking him with her. As part of the divorce terms, he only got to see his dad for a few weeks each summer, spending the vast majority of his time on Cape Cod with his mom. This was a situation that was not exactly ideal for a great childhood. His mother was a heavy smoker and drinker, which led to an unhealthy home situation. The house was usually filled with secondhand smoke, and she did not always provide the best care for my dad. Since she bred Hungarian Vizslas, there were at least eight dogs in the house at all times. This caused the already cramped house to be almost unbearable. To deal with this, my Dad often escaped into books. He would go to the library and check out twelve books at a time. Dog breeders don’t make a lot of money, so my dad and his mom lived on a shoestring budget. Sometimes to my dad, it seemed that she cared more about the dogs than she did about him. When my dad was in fifth grade, his house burned down due to a faulty chimney. His...

The Optimistic Shepherd to the Realistic Nymph

...Jessica Blaine Professor Stevens English 002 4 March 2014 The Optimistic Shepherd and the Realistic Nymph Carpe Diem has this beautiful and romantic connotation that no optimist can help but become giddy at the thought of the endless possibilities. These words to a realist however would cause a rolling of the eyes and the thought, “it must nice” going through their mind. So, which is right, to live the fantasy of only thinking about this moment or to take off the veil over your eyes and to take on life head on? In his poem "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love" Christopher Marlowe writes about a young shepherd in love. Marlowe main focus is on the argument that the shepherd is trying to make to his love, pleading with her to come live with him and enjoy the pleasures of the life. In his poem "The Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd" Sir Walter Raleigh uses the young girl as the speaker responding to the shepherd in direct response to Marlowe’s poem. The young girl thinks realistically and points out the flaws in the perfect life the young shepherd has proposed to her. The shepherd seems to be very much of an optimist, whereas the young girl is a realist. Looking closely on both poems you can see the first one presents dreams, hopes, material goods, and objects while the other poem presents reality. The arrangement of these two poems is the same where both have six stanzas containing four lines each. In "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love" the young shepherd largely uses......

That means that you have something in common with (44.5 million) other people in America alone. g. Meaning that people can have something else to talk about when they are lying next to each other at the cancer treatment center of America. h. Life

...Life Life is beautiful but not always easy, it has problems, too, and the challenge lies in facing them with courage, letting the beauty of life act like a balm, which makes the pain bearable, during trying times, by providing hope Happiness, sorrow, victory, defeat, day-night are the two sides of the me coin. Similarly life is full of moments of joy, pleasure, success and comfort punctuated by misery, defeat, failures and problems. There is no human being on Earth, strong, powerful, wise or rich, who has not experienced, struggle, suffering or failure. No doubt, life is beautiful and every moment – a celebration of being alive, but one should be always ready to face adversity and challenges. A person who has not encountered difficulties in life can never achieve success. Difficulties test the courage, patience, perseverance and true character of a human being. Adversity and hardships make a person strong and ready to face the challenges of life with equanimity. There is no doubt that there can be no gain without pain. It is only when one toils and sweats it out that success is nourished and sustained. Thus, life is and should not be just a bed of roses; thorns are also a part of it and should be accepted by us just as we accept the beautiful side of life. The thorns remind one of how success and happiness can be evasive and thus not to feel disappointed and disheartened rather remember that the pain of thorns is short-lived, and the beauty of life would soon overcome......

Life

...good job does not have any significance anymore. Reality hit, and it hit hard, I then learned the cold, plain out truth that would change my perspective on life, “In order to succeed in life you need to be determined, work hard, and have dedication.” My family plays one of the major roles in my life as my backbone. My parents were not the most fortunate family growing up but, made the most of what they had and turned it into what they would do. They both have taught me that in life, you have to earn things and not have it handed easily. I am intrigued in their lectures like the sound of music, grasping each word and understanding their potential meaning. That is one of my motivations to have a better understanding on the way the world works. Better yet, to make them proud of their young caterpillar blossom into a beautiful butterfly determined to fly into the right valley. As a citizen in La Habra, I feel the need to help others who are less fortunate in need of help. Personally, I volunteer in various ways of good nature for my city and even beyond my city’s boundary. Volunteering makes me feel like a superhero because each act of kindness makes a difference that won’t be forgotten. Nevertheless, we think high school is a getaway from home but, actually is a place where we can belong or be singled out. In life, there are always going to people to put you down but, instead should uplift your spirit instead. “Haters are your motivators,” a quote in our generation......

Customer Relationship & Optimistic Marketing

...Name: Prof.Maulik Shah Title: Psychology and CRM through Optimistic Marketing Abstract Marketing and psychology are in a way synonyms. Psychology is the science of behaviour and mental process with the ultimate goal of understanding individuals and groups. Marketing is the science of behaviour and mental process with the ultimate goal of understanding consumers and groups of consumers (i.e. markets) for commercial purpose. So the only different in their definition according to me is the word “commercial”. So it is fair enough to say that marketing and psychology only differ in their application part. This research paper will emphasize on the optimistic marketing especially eliminating the use of word “NO” in business and its implications, with some examples from case studies in order to strengthen my argument. The research methodology adopted is observational research. Marketing is all about keeping all your senses open and then ‘sense and satisfy’ the needs of customers. So the examples explained in the research paper is based on the common observations done across some industries and finding out how ignorance has led to the use of negativity in the business and how the use of optimistic marketing can help change the situation. Some supporting examples from successful companies like Disneyland, Nordstorm and Lacoste is also discussed. These case studies and other facts presented in the paper obtained through the observational research throws light on, how creating a......

An Optimistic Approach in of Mice and Men

...An Optimistic approach in Of Mice and Men Steinbeck’s use of imagery, foreshadowing and motif in Of Mice and Men sends the message that this novella is very optimistic based. First of all Steinbeck uses imagery very frequently throughout the book to describe scenery and characters. In the beginning chapter, Steinbeck describes the valleys and mountains where Lennie and George spend their time before working on the ranch as “the golden foothill slopes that curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan Mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees (...)” (Steinbeck 1). In this scene, Steinbeck uses very descriptive words to clearly describe the surrounding environment. The reader pictures a beautiful image of mountains and valleys in between, along with a gorgeous lake in front of a park with large sycamores scattered on the ground. The reader is able to think very positively when they read this quote because it brings out the small, beautiful things in the world, which allows them to think of this novella a bright and optimistic based story. Moreover, Steinbeck uses foreshadowing that allows the reader to think ahead and predict the outcomes in the future and the book in general. There are many examples of foreshadowing in Of Mice and Men, such as the following. "Lennie looked sadly up at him. 'They was so little,' he said, apologetically. 'I'd pet 'em, and pretty soon they bit my fingers and I pinched their little heads a little and then they was dead --......

Optimistic / Pessimistic Attribution Theory

...Final Project Optimistic / Pessimistic Attribution Theory Introduction There are many theories in the field of social psychology that can be used to explain, predict, or forecast behavior. As events occur throughout history, patterns can be analyzed and attributed to known theories that were birthed by educated scholars in this field. However, no theory s absolute in its outcome. As society changes, the applicability of each theory also changes. “Social Darwinism” was coined by Richard Hofstadter to label theories created around 1870 and primarily addresses survival and creation, as it was known in that era (Leonard, 2009). It is well known that Charles Darwin theorized that only the fittest members of society would ultimately survive. Modern science and technology has expanded to depths far beyond that of the 1800s. Research and real-time information has provided an outlet which allows scholars access to information that was not available during this period. The result of this influx of data allows current day researchers – and students – the ability to expound and expand older theories to fit modern culture. Whereas Darwin’s theory may have specifically defines mortality and the ability to thrive as it pertains to life and death, survival of the fittest can now be applied to a plethora of modern day situations, such as the stock market (only those who are savvy in the art of trading will be successful), technology (on the......

Optimistic Person

...people are. “LOVE” is only the four letters L-O-V-E stacked. The viewer could have a wide range of thoughts when looking at it. There are many types of love including: significant other, family, friends, religious, or even love for an animal. It could be love for the moment, a year, or a lifetime. In addition to that, the statue has the letters stacked; they are not in a straight line. The artist could have meant that love helps people to build their lives, or that they can grow from love. The letters not being in a straight line tells the viewers that love is not straight; there are mountains to climb and obstacles to get over. But at the end, love sticks together, like the four letters in Indiana’s sculpture. Love is the building block of life, and it helps people to build lasting relationships. The artist seems to feel that a person cannot depict love in a picture or sculpture, rather the visual rhetoric meaning of the sculpture is shown when a person sees the word, and he feels whatever comes to him. This sculpture only reflects the word love, but he left the imagination up to his viewers. Some viewers may think of a passionate moment, but others could imagine numerous different situations. While “The Kiss” is more specific, “LOVE” is a sculpture with an umbrella meaning that “The Kiss” could fit under. As was stated, there are many types of love; physical love is only one form of it. Since no color is seen, a person could not describe what the artists meant by it.......

...provides idealistic life and morality: he is a strong role model for americans and always views things on the bright side, while being a great leader. He is not only the best superhero ever but gives hope to everyone and provides a positive message on never giving up. He started from the bottom of the pit and never gave up; he became the best “man” he could, even though he had a little help from science. Transforming his life to be accepted, volunteering to become a super soldier, accepting his new reality, Captain America never gives up. People look up to him because he started off not accepted by societies view; he was a scrawny malnourished man that got rejected multiple times. Even though he had the help of military science, the olympic athlete abilities and physical attractiveness gave people hope that if they never give up they can succeed at anything they want. He is still human though. “ But we are also human beings, with feelings and emotions.” (page 59 Our Superhero Ourself) says Captain America, this shows people that even though he has this special ability he can relate to how humans feel and how tough it is to over come that specific standard. People can relate to him after the science experiment just as much as they relate to him before. He became his better self because he wasn't ok with being scrawny and rejected. People can also change their ways if they are not ok with themselves by either going to the gym, plastic surgery, being optimistic, etc. ......
