Menurut Vroom’s expectancy theory, perilaku yang diharapkan dalam pekerjaan akan meningkat jika seseorang merasakan adanya hubungan yang positif antara usaha-usaha yang dilakukannya dengan kinerja (Simamora, 1999). Perilaku-perilaku tersebut selanjutnya meningkat jika ada hubungan positif antara kinerja yang baik dengan imbalan yang mereka terima, terutama imbalan yang bernilai bagi dirinya (Nelson, 1996).

Abraham Maslow (1943;1970) mengemukakan bahwa pada dasarnya semua manusia memiliki kebutuhan pokok. Ia menunjukkannya dalam 5 tingkatan yang berbentuk piramid, orang memulai dorongan dari tingkatan terbawah. Lima tingkat kebutuhan itu dikenal dengan sebutan Hirarki Kebutuhan Maslow, dimulai dari kebutuhan biologis dasar sampai motif psikologis yang lebih kompleks; yang hanya akan penting setelah kebutuhan dasar terpenuhi. Kebutuhan pada suatu peringkat paling tidak harus terpenuhi sebagian sebelum kebutuhan pada peringkat berikutnya menjadi penentu tindakan yang penting.

...Introduction to Literature (ADI1303A) Reader-response approach was the best way to look at The Story of an Hour. I connected on different levels with the story of a woman who fell out of love with her husband. The short story is written with two tones one of somber and one of joy. The writer goes between the two and shows how one event can span different emotions. The Story of an Hour is a wonderfully written short story that spoke to me. The two completely different tones of the piece drew me in. The story begins with a somber mood as the lady of the home is being told about the death of her husband. “She did not hear the story as many women have heard the same, with a paralyzed inability to accept its significance.” The tone in this sentence can be seen as somber, but it my also have a happy undertone. The loss of your soul mate should be a sad event, but perhaps that may not always be the case. As the story goes on the tone changes to one of elation as Mrs. Mallard begins to realize she is free from her husband. She begins to imagine her life without the burden of pretending to be in love with him. She makes her way down the stairs only to find her husband waiting at the end. Her heart condition gets the best of her and she dies on the spot. The last sentence brings the tone full circle and back to somber. ...think that there should be a minimum education requirement for the meter reader job, at least a high school diploma holder, as it is for the purpose of the company to have good communication skills and well-educated meter reader workers. On the other hand, for meter reader workers with high school diploma holder allows themselves to have opportunity to be promoted or benefit on further education in the future. Also, with high school diploma certificate increase the employment possibilities where minimum education provided to fill in their job with specific skills that enables them to start as soon as possible on their job whereas its helps employer to reduce the cost on training and development. 2. Basically, Sam’s effort to upgrade the people in the organization is really good changes for the company in the future. McDonald Professor Williams ENC 1102 12 January 2011 Reader Response 1 The first time I read “The Cranes” by Peter Meinke, it appeared to be nothing more than a story about an elderly couple sitting in their car at the Gulf of Mexico reflecting on their lives together. However, the second time I read the short story, I began to pick up on the author’s symbolism. It wasn’t until I read the story for a third time that I realized the couple was committing suicide. I truly enjoyed this story. There is so much more to it than I originally thought. The initial shock of realizing that the husband and wife were taking their own lives was quite disturbing to me. However, I was greatly comforted by the couple’s sense of humor in these final moments of their lives. They were so completely at ease with one another. The author uses descriptions of three different kinds of birds to convey an image of how the couple must view themselves and the world around them at this point in their lives. “Along the marshy shore two tall stately birds, staring motionless toward the Gulf, towered the bobbing egrets and scurrying plovers.” (Meyer 621) The first clue the author gives that there is more to the story than there first appears to be is the mention of the shower curtain on the front seat. “the shower curtain spread over the front seat crackled and hissed.” (Meyer 622) The next clue is when the wife questions if they are......

...“An American Childhood” Reader’s Response Many details in Annie Dillard’s “An American Childhood” suggest that the author is retelling the events of an early childhood experience from the viewpoints of herself as an adult. Ms. Dillard’s essay uncovers the differences between how adults and children view the world and seek happiness. However, there are a couple points to this essay. It seems as though, one of the author’s main points was to convey the message that some of the simplest moments in her life were also the happiest and most memorable. For example, she says, “I got in trouble throwing snowballs, and have seldom been happier since”. Also, I noticed that the author seemed to be motivated to inspire readers to chase life’s experiences passionately until one is satisfied. In the essay the author uses two rhetorical modes: narration and description. Ms. Dillard uses narration to describe her perspective of what it was like to be a child in America. In addition to using narration she also describes the intricate details of that particular winter day “Six inches of new snow had just fallen. We were standing up to our boot tops in snow on a front yard trafficked Reynolds Street slowly and evenly; they were targets all but wrapped in red ribbons, cream puffs.” (91). The Medical covered 100% of the premiums for the employee , and his/her spouse and 50% on children- all with $500.00 deductible plan, and the company would cover the $500.00 deductible ( Martinez, 2010). When the cost of medical insurance exploded, Food Process and Control held on the same benefits until a couple of years later that was not affordable, so they needed to re- structure the benefit plan, especially because at this time they were looking at more employees and that was really affecting the cost in to the company (Martinez, 2010). To cut costs Food Process and Control reduced the coverage of spouse and children to only 50%, a couple of years later Food Process and Control was forced to eliminate our portion of the $500.00 deductible and change the plan to a $1000.00 deductible to reduce the escalating costs. As for dental insurance Food Process and Control has never offered dental insurance to its employees.
