...Managerial roles that I chose for Rick Federico include the leader role, monitor role, and entrepreneur role. I feel that the leader role is appropriate because Mr. Federico’s leadership ability is evident in the short video and he is already utilizing this role successfully. Specifically, according to Lussier and Achua (2013) the mark of an effective leader can be observed in the leader’s decision-making ability, the ability to influence others, and in their inclination to treat employees as assets. Han (2007) expands on our textbook’s definition of a leader and adds that establishing expectations regarding work quality, decision-making responsibility, and directing time commitments to the job are all outcomes of an effective leader also. I feel that based on the video Mr. Federico demonstrated competency in all of these areas. The second managerial role that I chose was the monitor role. Han (2007) explains that the effective monitor is constantly seeking to scan and monitor the environment in which he participates, much like Mr. Federico is seen doing on the video. Mr. Federico appears to have a predisposition towards this role that can be seen in his desire to stay abreast of current products and trends in the culinary field and identify those that are working well in his organization alongside his chef. In the video, Mr. Federico is seen inquiring extensively about how the customers as well as the other chefs are identifying with their products and how those......

...27 AUG 14 English 106 1700 The Indians are Coming for America In the essay “While I was Sleeping” by Thomas L. Friedman, he made a very strong argument (figuratively) that the world is becoming flat. After reading this essay, one really has no choice but to agree. The essay was written fairly recently due to the fact that he mentions very current technology in this essay. Mr. Friedman said “I just want to understand why Indians were taking Americans work and why they have become such an important pool for outsourcing Americans work” (626). It is obvious that he is somewhat warning the American culture, young and middle aged. The world really is flat in regards to technology, the economy, and our ever changing cultures. Thomas L. Friedman’s argument in this essay is that the world is flattening. He starts with the setting on a golf course in Bangalore, India. Bangalore is the home of the modern world’s most advanced technology. The author kept comparing his journey to Bangalore, to the journeys of Christopher Columbus. As we all know Christopher Columbus set out to find a more direct way to India and to prove that the world was round. The author of this essay uses the modern world of technology and its recent advances to prove that the world is in fact flat and that everyone needs to be ready to except significant changes to our culture and power as we know it. Through the help of interviews with the CEO of Infosys Technologies Limited, he supports the fact......

...Rick Auto Parts Expansion ECON545 Expansion Rick is interested in expanding his auto parts company to include many other potential customers. Rick would like to receive an informed opinion from someone who has had education on economical topics such as business cycles, unemployment, inflation, monetary policy, etc. before he commits to this endeavor. All of these topics and statistics will be taken into consideration and once informed Rick will make his decision accordingly. Business cycles A business cycle can be defined as “The fluctuations in economic activity that an economy experiences over a period of time” (Investopedia, n.d.). On average different business cycles have lasted around 69 months with expansion this period lasting 58 months and contraction 11 (Investopedia, n.d.).  Of the various cycles the early expansion stage is the one most suitable for starting and or expanding a business. During this stage there is documented evidence that businesses in fields such as technology, entertainment, and services experience an increased profit margin. During the contraction phase, which includes severities such as recessions, only services such as healthcare flourish (Investopedia, n.d.). The Lucky One

...dilemma is simple; Rick wants to drop out of school, but his friends and family disagree about whether this is a good choice. He is not as shallow as one might think; Rick is not considering the dropout because of pure laziness. Rick has interned at the local jazz station for two years now, and is on his way to becoming a full time DJ. The owner of the station listened to Rick’s segment yesterday afternoon and offered Rick a slot on the morning show which averages seven hundred listeners. It would be a huge step forward to achieving his goal to become a career DJ, but he would have no choice but to abandon his last two months of high school. Risk’s parents are the biggest advocators against dropping out. They argue that the job will still be there in two months, and that a high school diploma is key to moving into higher positions. The principal of Rick’s school is also against the idea. In addition to losing a student from his school, the principal knows that Rick will lose all the credits for his senior year. Rick’s friends, however, fully support the plan. Their argument is that Rick’s boss is clearly ready to make decisions on a whim, and could find someone else to take the position before Rick can graduate. The radio station needs a morning DJ, and the world won’t wait for Rick’s graduation. They claim that Rick can get his GED and use real world experience to move up in the business. They say that people will understand why Rick made his decision. Rick agrees with......

Casablanca

...through the fictional conversion of Rick Blaine and corrupt Vichy police Captain Louis Renault to self-sacrifice and war. The opening scene for the movie sets up establishing shots of imprisoned Europe. A roundabout refugee trail sprung up in order to get to Lisbon, which was the disembarkation point to the new world. The narrator, in a newsreel format, says people looked for freedom in the Americas. The Moroccan city of Casablanca attracted people from all over as many refugees were trying to get out of Europe. They wait in Casablanca. The first scene shows Casablanca as a very police state with a great military presence. The busyness of the exotic open market the camera frame shows the city as being very walled in. People are trapped and they can’t move or go anywhere. The murder of two German couriers carrying transit papers is being investigated as the police are “rounding up the usual suspects.” Most of the people in Casablanca – refugees, gamblers, Nazis, and resistance fighters – make their way over to Rick’s Café Americain the nightclub owned by American expatriate Rick Blaine. Rick is cynical and bitter and professes to be neutral in all matters. In a conversation with Louis Renault, Rick states, “I stick my neck out for nobody.” In reply, Renault says, “A wise foreign policy.” Both men are seemingly alone. Governor Rick Perry

...Maegan Forney GOVT 2306-N01 10 June 2015 Special Project #1 Governor Rick Perry gave a speech in 2009 regarding the issues Texas was facing. Governor Perry was extremely confident throughout his speech. During Perry’s speech, He was constantly referring back to the Texas Constitution. Perry is a right winged man who takes extreme pride in his state. At the end of his main point, Perry stated “This is how Texans have always been, very about themselves,” which is a good thing. Each state should put its foundations before everything else. The 10th Amendment subject has been debated for some time now, according to Perry. His belief is that the constitution does not empower the federal government to infringe upon our states rights. A states primary concern should be the peoples individual rights and responsibilities that the state has. I think that if Texas returned to what the Constitution and 10th Amendment really meant, it would become a much stronger, as a state. Perry is interested in being “a leader in a very strong 10th Amendment movement” and working with those who agree with him in the sense that Washington has become too intrusive. He wants to put America back on the right track, and to do so he needs each state to start competing with each other to encourage prosperity. To become a powerful country with a strong economy again, Perry believes that acting out the 10th Amendment will be something that will take him to where he wants to be. I think that everything...

Rick grew up in China; he married and had a family before moving to the United States. In China, Rick owned a factory and a fishing boat. Although Rick owned his own businesses his take home pay was meager, Rick often supported his family on an equivalent of $200 US per month. He said his life was better than most but he wanted more for his family. Rick said the Chinese government often took money for no reason and the lack of laws regarding identity theft and creating fake businesses caused him to lose money. There is no middle class in China; either you are very rich or very poor, causing people to lie, cheat and steal to survive. Even those in the very rich category have either moved or are saving to move to another country for a better life. 20 years ago Rick sold his factory and fishing boat to get enough money to come to the US. Due to corrupt Chinese government officials, Rick spent most of his money to buy papers necessary to immigrate his family to the US. Rick explained in China you pay government officials for everything, if you want a job you pay an official, if you need papers you will have to pay someone. A Brief Analysis of Rick and Morty

...A Brief of Analysis of Rick and Morty The adventures and often misadventures of this grandson and grandpa duo along with their family members are a delight and often downright absurd to watch. There are moments of preposterous incidents that'll leave with a stupefied expression and then immediately sent you off into fits of laughter. It is a highly entertaining show, where their exploits cross over multiple universes and dimensions and often end up interacting with beings from another world, trying to catapult the series into the fringes of possible realms within comprehension. But it has the titular characters sharing a close bond while simultaneously possessing eccentric personalities to keep us intrigued; the other characters of the family are also slowly developing into their own unique identities and the whole lot of them makes for a weird family group. The crux of the humour remains the sheer absurd and often mind-boggling adventures they get themselves into and each one of them unique and taut with different dosages of effective comedy. The brilliant drunk scientist whose highly developed intelligence has him building incredible devices of extraordinary powers like that of his portal gun - used to create inter - dimensional portals to other universes and even timelines. He is a pessimistic atheist whose demeanour is that of a wisecracking jester but obstinately drunk and erratic. His relationship with his daughter ( Beth ) forces her to loan the garage to his various...

Rick Perry's Ad Strong

...The ad “Strong” by Rick Perry is about religion and same sex relationships. Perry plainly states what and how he feels. The ad starts out with Rick Perry, in a brown barn jacket and dark blue shirt, speaks to the camera as he walks up a grassy hill. "I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian," he says. "But you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school." He continues, "As president, I'll end Obama's war on religion. And I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage. Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again." Rick Perry is obviously appealing to the rights of Christians and how they have been taken away and comparing that to gay rights. He is subtly appealing to those in Iowa who are against this to gain votes. Struggling for power in the Republican contest, Perry is gambling that the religious conservatives who typically dominate Iowa's kickoff caucuses will warm to his candidacy if he appeals to them with a socially conservative message. He's also drawing a contrast with rival Mitt Romney whose Mormon faith gives many evangelicals pause and Newt Gingrich, who recently converted to Catholicism but has been divorced twice and has acknowledged infidelity in his first two marriages. But this ad, attacks President Barack Obama directly on gay rights and religion. Perry's suggestion that......
