Have you ever felt that I need to train no matter what I feel like today?
I have found that sticking with my training plan is not the issue, however veering off it slightly and allowing for flexibility was very difficult for me. In my last two years of competing against Runners and Triathletes there have been a few injuries, chronic fatigue and potential burnout.
I decided to step back this year while training for the marathon by preventing myself in falling in the same pattern again. Often times, the best barometer of feedback is not in watts, heart data or fancy graphs. Some of the best feedback comes from our gut instincts. Finding the joy in training and being opening up to being more flexible in our regimen is just as important as all the hard interval work or getting in the volume.
This said, I decided to listen to my inner voice which said, “I think I need to rest more today.” That inner voice often sent me an SOS signal calling for either a brief physical or mental break.
The best advice that I can give to you as a runner is to speak to yourself as if you were your own best friend.
What would you say to a good friend if she or he felt pressure to so something on plan, but knew deep inside what they really needed? What would you say to your friend if he or she said that she was really, really tired and not up for doing something you had planned together? You’d probably say that “it’s okay – we’ll get it in another time.”
The best runners, who perform well consistently, often follow a structured training plan. However, they also have learned the art of listening to that inner voice and allowed for flexibility within their plan.
As a runner, you need to understand and trust that it’s OK to back off. Listening to that inner voice and allowing for that flexibility can mean the difference between having a full, fun season of racing and training…...

Running Away

...When I first ran away, it was the end of July, 2009. I was 13 years old. I couldn't take my life at home anymore. My parents were always running my life and telling me what I can and can't do. I wanted things my own way...I ended up going to 3 of my friends' houses hoping they'd never catch me. I didn't have that much money with me and I wondered how I was going to make it. When it got dark, I didn't know where to sleep. I finally called my parents and went home but they never let that day go. I wanted to though.  When I went to school, my friend Kristina and I would always skip classes just for the fun of it. At least that's what she thought. The real reason I wanted to get away because I hated school. Bi hated the teachers some of the other students besides my friends. I was so bored every day and started acting out. I started hanging with the bad crowd and starting doing things I knew I shouldn't be doing. So when she and I would run away from school we would have the thrill of our lives. Going through shopping centers or just having fun doing bad things being around the neighborhoods was all I need to feel better about myself.  Apparently, I never learned my lesson. I ran away from home a second time. I went to a friend who I thought I could trust, my friend Christian. I was suicidal at the time so I could have killed myself when I had the chance. I don't know why I really ran way that day. I wanted to get away from my parents I guess. Do you ever have parents who......

Running Letter

...Running Running… A word most people can’t say without cringing. An action 98 percent of the population can’t or won’t do. But, this action is my religion. It’s my middle path on the road to enlightenment. It’s my savior from the noisy confusion of life. Most people don’t understand how an action, such as running, can be a place of worship or a place to practice religion. But after all, a church, synagogue, or mosque isn't defined by its four walls. Rather, it's a place where people of shared beliefs gather to connect with themselves and those around them and show their gratitude for the blessings in their lives. This is how I see running. It’s place where I can go to give thanks for the gifts I have been given. Even though running may not be a religion it’s my retreat, it’s my place to commune with God and myself, and a place for psychological and spiritual renewal. Running is helping me find myself in the world. Running gives back so many things… it gives me the opportunity to appreciate nature, develop a relationship with others, see how things in the universe connect, and meditate to quiet my mind. It’s a spirituality I couldn’t find any where else. When I’m running there is heightened state of consciousness almost a zen running… some may call it being in the zone, but I see it as spiritual thing. When I’m spiritually running I’m connected with the world… there is a greater sense of awareness and appreciation that makes me a stronger, more confident runner and a more...

Because It Is Running by

...Because it is running by – essay A. “Because It Is Running By” is a short story which was published in 2009 by Jo Lloyd. It is a short story because there are few people in it, it is short, the action is simple, realistic and it has an open ending. This short story is about Wil who is in a place in his life where he has to choose where he wants to be and he has to let the past go. The main character in the story is Wil who lives with his mother. (Page 1, line 8): “The B&B’s the only thing making money, his mother had said. We just need the weather, he had said, the veg’ll pick up”. Wil does not like changes and in the start he is sceptical about the new helper Edie. Wil and his mother’s lives “stopped” when Wil’s father died. (Page 1, line 14): “The guests had breakfast in the room that used to be the family sitting room. […] Wil had hardly been in that room since the B&B started.” (Page 1, line 25): “Sometimes, on her way out, she’d see Wil working in the field, planting, digging, stacking boxes of veg into the back of the old van”. It sounds like Wil is a person who works hard and maybe he tries to take over his father’s role. It is not mentioned that Wil has other siblings and maybe that is the reason, why he wants to have the father role. Wil’s father died when he was sixteen and it is the age where you have to find yourself. Edie from London is very different contrary to Wil. In the start she is turned inwards but he tries to make her outgoing. (Page 2,......

Running

...Running Running is a means of locomotion especially for terrestrial animals which allow them to move quickly on foot. The body of human beings is adapted to run in several ways. There are three primary nature of running which the body if is able to combine them, then running is achieved and good performance for athletes. This does not mean that the body only relies on this factors in order to execute running, there are also many other factors. These three factors that contribute to an efficient running are; cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular endurance, and sprint or explosive power. Cardiorespiratory endurance can be defined as the ability of the heart and lungs to absorb, transport, and use oxygen in the body during strenuous or intense exercise. Muscle endurance, on the other hand, is the strength of the human body to continuously use muscular strength while enduring repeated contractions for a long period of time. Explosive power is the capability of the body muscle to contract and develop over a short period of time to release energy. Cardiorespiratory endurance, the ability to absorb, transport and utilize oxygen in the body is the final factor that can increase the performance of the more run. Cardiorespiratory endurance exercise such as aerobics should be initiated for every more run if he or she is to be successful. These exercises increase endurance by increasing the lungs volume and strengthening the heart muscles. Cardiorespiratory endurance training enhances...

Running on Empty

...Running on EmptyWhen life seems to have no meaningBy Sara Debbie Gutfreund | She says that she is running on empty. She says that there is vast, useless space inside of her. She looks the same on the outside. But things are subtly falling apart. She is bored literally to tears even though her schedule is full. She can’t find meaning despite the rituals and beliefs that frame her days. She doesn’t want to do anything, but she does everything anyway. She can’t figure out where she went wrong when she was playing by all the rules.Lately she has become obsessed with the Wizard of Oz. As if she can’t find her own way home. As if she would like someone to offer her a new heart, a new mind, or perhaps just the courage to change. But then she looks at me with eyes that are tired and frustrated at the same time, and she says: “But then I remember that in the end the wizard is just a tired, old man with a fake voice.” She wonders though about the glittering, red shoes that Dorothy clicks together in the end. Maybe I should buy red shoes, she ventures. And she does. She buys red shoes and shiny, black shoes. She buys new, fluffy towels and perfume so sweet it makes her choke. But the emptiness is still there. Suddenly, everywhere she goes, she feels like she doesn’t belong. She is becoming a stranger in her own skin. Restless and exhausted at the same time. At night she can’t sleep, and during the day she can hardly keep her eyes open.Maybe you are depressed, I tell her. But no, she......

Running

...One Man Vision Burning. Jacob felt it all over but running at night was totally worth it, the lights, the freedom, and the potential of getting faster and winning was too tempting and he had to do it. While running, all roads seem as if they are endless, and the mind drifts of to another part of the brain that exaggerates everything. A sort of adrenaline except more painful, and during this state of mind Jacob reminisced his high school and college years. All of this while pounding heavily on the infinite, moonlit sidewalk. Even though Jacob was always on the bench, his father was always in the stands cheering his heart out. He never missed a game. This young man was still the smallest of his football team when he entered high school but still made the team. His father continued to inspire him, and encourage him but also made it crystal clear to Jacob that he didn’t have to play football if he didn’t want to, kept on telling him that, “You don’t have to prove anything to anyone, but yourself.” But this young man truly loved football and decided to hang in there. Jacob was determined to try his best at every practice, and perhaps he’d get to play when he became a senior, this was the big moment he replayed in his head back and forth, every game he sat on the bench. All through high school, he never missed a practice or a game but remained a bench-warmer for all four years. His faithful father was always in the stands, always with words of encouragement for him. Throughout......

Running Head

...Running head: DRAWING TO PAINTING Drawing to Painting Kristofer Kem ARTS/230 June 26, 2014 Elizabeth Labby Drawing to Painting Raphael has painted the Alba Madonna. This paper will discuss what Raphael used to paint the Alba Madonna. This paper will also show how Raphael used drawing as a method to painting. Furthermore, the reader will be informed on the materials he used for his art work as well as how the foundations of his paintings came together for the final product. Lastly, this paper will explain why Raphael drew the work prior to him painting as well as what he wanted to express in his art work. Metalpoint was a tool that was used in the late 15th century that many artists used to create drawings. Metalpoint was one of the materials that Raphael used for his art work. “The metalpoint creates a chemical reaction once it is applied to paper this would produce lines” (Sayre, 2010). In addition to using metalpoint, Raphael also used chalk in his art work. In the past, many artists used chalk in his or her drawings. In order for chalk to be used like a pencil, it had to be sharpened to a point. Typically Raphael would use oil on wood panels. To create paintings, he used oil on canvas as well. Raphael was one the first artists to show what kind of power oil has in paintings. This is because of oil’s ability to give off a high gloss finish and its texture. Another medium that Raphael used in his paintings was tempera. Tempera is an emulsion of pure egg yolk and water that......

...Always Running Name:_Eli_Juergens________________ Luis Rodriguez ***Answer in Bullet Point Responses*** Chps 1-4 1.Discuss the author’s family history- trials and tribulations his parents experienced. Especially as recent immigrants in Southern California. • Luis’s Parents met while his father was away attending a study program in Bloomington, India. While away, his fathers “enemies” had figured out a way to remove him from his job as principal at a high school in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. His father was charged with stealing money from the schools funds, when in fact his father devoted everything he could to his career. Eventually his father was found innocent, but by that time he had lost his position as principal. • The Rodriguez family left Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, to move to Los Angeles when Luis was only 2 years old. Luis’s father was mostly out of work, but his mother was able to find work cleaning houses. His mother was unable to speak English, so it became frustrating to her when Americans would chastise her without being able to conjure a response, so she mostly just listened. • Luis’s Parents struggled to make ends meet. Louis describes his first Christmas ever with a fake aluminum tree and filled with gifts that came from a church group which gave out gifts for the poor. 2.Discuss recurring theme of isolation and segregation. Source: Bank of England (2013) Figure 1 UK base rate January 2000 to March 2013 Fall in manufacturing fans UK triple-dip recession fears (Reuters, 12 March 2013) British manufacturing output fell in January at the fastest pace since June, reinforcing fears that the economy has tipped into its third recession since the 2008 financial crisis. The decline in manufacturing, and downbeat GDP estimates from a respected think-tank, will add to pressure on Chancellor George Osborne to come up with measures to revive growth in his annual budget next week. Britain’s economy contracted in late 2012, endangering the government’s plans to bring its spending in line with its earnings and contributing to the loss of the country’s prized triple-A credit rating. If economic activity shrinks again this quarter – as looks increasingly likely – Britain will be back in recession. The National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR), which last month predicted that Britain would avoid a triple-dip recession, said on Tuesday it was now a close call. It estimated the economy shrank 0.1 per cent in the three......

Running the Rift

...Community defines a person and their beliefs. Jean Patrick is a prime example. Naomi Benaron picks apart the society Jean Patrick is faced with but through it all he stays true to his Tutsi name. In Running the Rift, Jean Patrick faces a lot of difficult decisions but will pick the one that helps benefit others of his heritage and not just himself. It started out early in the book when Jean Patrick stood up to his Tutsi name. “Jean Patrick said to his father, ‘Dadi, I am Tutsi.’”(Benaron 13). Jean Patrick grew up being aware of his ethnicity, but didn’t let it slow him down. When his coach wanted to give him a Hutu card, he felt guilty even after Uncle Emmanuel said he should get it. As they were talking he said “How can I? I’d be betraying my ethnie. Turning my back on you.”(Benaron 89). He had wanted his uncle to forbid him from getting the card, even if that meant he couldn’t win the Olympics. He couldn’t deal with the burden of lying about his heritage. “‘How can I suddenly be Hutu when every part of my face says Tutsi?’”(Benaron 90). Jean Patrick doesn’t understand why he should have it since it’s not his heritage. As things start to get bad for the Tutsi heritage again, Jean Patrick still embraces the race he was given. All he could think about was how his name somehow wasn’t on the Tutsi list, even after he got attacked he felt as if he should still be on the list. “He must apologize to Uncle because his own name was not on the list.”(Benaron 99). He felt as if......
