Getting a job isn’t always easy, especially once you’re up in age. Once you get the job though, what do you do if you’ve never worked in that particular industry? Well in today’s society most jobs offer training, some are paid, some are not.
When I started working at Alltel before it eventually became Verizon, even though I had experience in the Customer Service field, I still had to be trained to be able to use the systems that Alltel uses. We came in doing training 5 days a week and got paid for 40 hours every week. The training we participated in gave us detailed information on the job we applied for. The instructors would also ask us questions about what we had learned to make sure our understanding of the material was being absorbed.
After training was done we had an assessment to take that would let the trainers as well as management know that we had met the objectives, the training method, the practical application of the content, and our perspective and ability to transfer the content to the workplace. Some things that could improve in training are our trainers could have been a little more knowledgeable about the material they were teaching us. I feel that trainers should be people who have started from scratch, doing the job we’ve done, before they can be certified to teach someone something they know nothing about. Our job also offers tuition reimbursement, you can really go to school for anything. If its job related, it seems there’s a little bit more leeway on what’s paid for and how you’re reimbursed though. Fortunately I’m in school for Business Management and HR, so as long as I maintain a C average, my schooling get’s paid for. Only thing that’s not paid is my books or any accessories or other material I may need.

So the next time you apply for a job, don’t worry about if you’re going to do a good job or not, because you will have training. While in training pay attention and get the knowledge needed to do your job correctly. Remember assessments will be given to verify your ability to comprehend what you’ve learned. Good Luck on your next job endeavor.…...

Managing Staff

...Managing Staff Adrienne Molett HCA/270 November 27, 2011 Axia College Managing Staff Annualizing staff is one way that health care facilities can monitor hours needed to provide care for patients. In this paper, I will be discussing how the costs are tied into staffing, the differences between annualized and scheduled-position methods. I will also talk about the reason to annualize the staff and what benefits of recording productive and nonproductive time. I will then provide a conclusion to summarize everything I have discussed. Managers in health care facilities are responsible for making sure the positions are fully covered at all times, especially if the facilities is opened 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is one way the manager can monitor how the hours are distributed. The manager is given the cost for the month and this is when the manager must tie the cost into the actual staffing. The manager must look at how many hours it will take and find out based on the actual employee on how many nonproductive days they have to be able to equally distribute the hours for the week. Managers must know the difference between the annualized method and the scheduled-position method in order to schedule the hours correctly. These methods can vary depending upon the facility, so it is vital to know which method the facility uses. The annualized method is when the manager must include the employees’ unproductive days with their productive days to know what the......

Selecting Staff

...Selecting Staff Crystal Robinson OMM618: Human Resources Management Instructor: Kathryn King-Metters October 15, 2012 As a supervisor, I believe selecting staff is a vital part of running any organization. The staff you select should be a reflection of yourself and your organization. You’d always want someone who is determined and hardworking; someone who likes to think outside the box in order to come up new and innovative ideas. Selecting the right staff to perform various duties is essential and allows for supervisors and managers to work on other areas within the company. Before I select new staff remembers, I will assess the need and perform observation of staff within the company to see which areas are needed and which areas could use assistance. Within the mental health field, there is a need for hands on supports and services. These supports and services range from assisting with medication administration to assisting with apartment or room maintenance; other supports include escorting individuals to and from medical appointments, money management and budgeting to travel training. These supports are mandated from the state to be implemented into each agencies programming. There are safety factor that play a huge role in securing overall staff and consumers staff, fire safety, First Aid and CPR; as well as, strategies in crisis intervention and prevention and choking prevention and aspiration. Staff Training and Development

...Staff training and development Recruitment takes place from the point when a business decides that it needs to employ somebody up to the point where a pile of completed application forms has arrived in the post. Selection then involves choosing an appropriate candidate through a range of ways of sorting out suitable candidates leading to interviews and other tests. Training involves providing a range of planned activities that enable an employee to develop the skills, attitudes and knowledge required by the organisation and the work required. Recruitment Attracting the right candidates to apply for a job can be an expensive process. It is even more expensive when done badly because when unsuitable candidates apply for a job, then the post may need to be re-advertised - so it is best to get it right first time. The starting point is to carry out job analysis to identify the sorts of skills, knowledge and essential requirements that someone needs to have to carry out a job. These details can be set out in a job specification, which is passed on to recruiters - it gives them a picture of the ideal candidate. A job description is also helpful because it sets out: The job description can be sent out to potential candidates along with a person specification, which sets out the desirable and essential characteristics that someone will need to have to be appointed to the post. A variety of media will be used to attract applications e.g. national newspapers for national jobs,...

...peers. ‘it is the Rolls-Royece of the industry, with a fantastic position at the top end,’ says Andrea Guerra, chief executive of Merloni, the italian white goods maker. But the domestiic appliance sector is one of europe’s most competitive and inevitably questions are being asked about how long miele can stick to what many see as its old-dashioned ways, before succumbing to lower-costt rivals. In fact, whether miele survives in its current form over the next decade will be an important test case for the whole of european manufacturing. The company sells appliances ranging from dishwashers to coffee machines, most commanding a price premium of up to 70 per cent over the competitors’ wares. It spends 12 per cent of its revenue on product development – far more than the industry norm. Miele’s attention to detail is legendary. Ovens are tested using machines that open and shut their doors 60,000 times to simulate the rigours they will withstand in their owners’ kitchens. In truth, most things about mile seem unusual, even quaint, when compared with the cut-and-thrust style of most big companies today. It is run jointly by the two great – grandsons of the men who set up the company 104 years ago. Markus miele and Reinhard Zinkann – whose families still own the business - share adjoining offices in its unfussy headquarters in Gutersloh, a quiet town in northern germany. Just along the corridor are their two fathers, who still have a say in running the business. Emphasising......

...board the vessel. The seller must contract for and pay the costs and freight and insurance cover against the buyer’s risk of loss of or damage to the goods during the carriage necessary to bring the goods to the named port of destination. FOB and CIF have the same risk that the risk of loss of or damage to the goods passes when the goods are on board the vessel. However, using FOB term will bring benefits to import countries and import enterprises rather than CIF. Benefits in term of import country, when importing by FOB term, the importer can actively choose the carrier as well as the insurance for the freight. Therefore, importing by FOB term can create job opportunities for many people who work in these fields and contribute to the development of these industries. In addition, using FOB term, the amount of foreign currency that the importer has to pay to the exporter will be less than CIF term. Thus the importer can save the foreign currency for their country. For example, in 2007, if all of the Vietnamese enterprises imported in term of FOB, the import turnover of Vietnam would be 48.55 billion USD rather than 52.20 billion USD by CIF term. The mount of foreign currency for importing we be reduced by (-) 3.65 billion USD because we can save the fee that we has to pay for insurance and freight costs. Benefits in term of enterprises, using FOB term, they can obtain more accurate information in a timely manner. they will pay the less to the security deposit to open L / C......

Staff Training

...Staff Training ------------------------------------------------- NEGLECTED ELEMENT OF THE RISK MANAGEMENT EQUATION By Melanie Lockwood Herman Nonprofit leaders are quick to rank staff training as an important goal in the workplace. During discussions with funders and other external stakeholders many managers tout the commitment of their organizations to provide inservice training to paid and volunteer personnel. Yet the commitment to training may waiver when grant dollars or fees for services are on a downhill slope. Designing Your Training The questions below were created to guide you through the process of designing training for your organization. * What are your organization's usual practices for staff training? Many organizations have on-going staff training programs. Your risk management training should be incorporated into other existing organizational training practices. * Who will do the training? Selection of instructors will influence the nature of your training program. Training might be delivered by a staff member, outside consultant, or in some cases a law enforcement officer or other government official (e.g., child protective services worker). * How will the training be delivered? Will individuals undertake training individually or in a group session? Must participants gather in a single location or can they be trained from remote locations? A growing number of organizations are choosing online and video-based training programs to ensure......

Staff Development Project Summary

...Staff Development Project Summary In today’s environment of exponential advancements in knowledge and technology, a concept known as the learning organization (LO) is becoming increasingly important to health care institutions (Marquis & Huston, 2012). The LO philosophy embraces the importance of learning as a continuous process and emphasizes that in order for hospitals to adapt to changes in the environment and be successful, they must create staff development programs. Nurse educators are the primary hospital resource for generating such educational programs. This summary will describe the steps to follow when planning an effective staff development program, which include assessing learning needs, selecting a learning theory, developing learning objectives, presenting learning content, and evaluating learning. Assessment of Learning Needs In order for the teaching-learning process to be effective, an assessment of learning needs must first occur (Kearney-Nunnery, 2012, pp. 162-176). Performing an analysis of learning needs will identify knowledge gaps and skill deficits and enable the educator to select the most relevant topics when creating staff development programs. Research has shown that questionnaires are a reliable method to collect this type of information (Doughty, 2012). To analyze and determine learning needs of nurses in the intensive care unit where I work, a questionnaire composed of two parts was used. The first part consisted of five......

Managing Staff

...Managing Staff HCA/270 Managing Staff Introduction Health care managers play an important role in health care “by assuming leadership and management responsibilities for multiple units and departments. Managers in health care organizations spend significant amounts of time and place high value on communication, problem solving and decision making, collaboration with other disciplines, people development, staffing and cost containment.” ("Health Care Managers' and Administrators' Roles, Functions, and Responsibilities.” 1999). With these responsibilities managers also need to watch over productive and nonproductive time. According to Baker & Baker “productive time actually equates to the employee’s net hours on duty when performing the functions in his or her job description. Nonproductive time is paid-for time when the employee is not on duty: that is, not producing and therefore “nonproductive.” Paid-for vacation days, holidays, personal leave days, and/or sick days are all nonproductive time” (p 96.). Cost Tied to Staffing Health care facilities have a constant fluctuation of patient flow, and it is the manager’s job to make sure that these facilities are properly staffed so that patients can be cared for. These fluctuations can be caused by the spread of viruses like the flu and other illnesses. Wide spread illness can cause health care facilities to become extremely busy very quickly. A way for health care managers to help prepare for these fluctuations can...

Managing Staff

...Managing Staff June 16, 2013 HCA/270 Financial Matters For Health Care Professionals Managing Staff Healthcare services administration has several roles in a facility, which depends of course on the type of facility and the size of medical facility. Overall administrators supervise, plan, and organize all decisions made within the facility. This also includes taking responsibility in staff members’ duties. Managers are also in charge of finance, accounting, marketing, policy, budgeting, and most important human resources. How are costs tied to staffing? Obtaining control of labor staff cost in a medical facility is not as simple as saying the sky is blue. This task takes lots of consideration. There would always be patient volume, once again depending on what type of practice it is, staffing calculations are actions used to calculate coverage all periods of times. Since some medical staff members work all day this means shifts would change every eight to twelve hours. The method is a basic 40 hour work week. That’s saying if someone is working twelve hour shifts they would work three in half days which would add up to 40 hours a week. Or if its eight hours shift they would work five days a week. Why annualize staffing? Annualizing is important because employees work hard and deserves their time off such as vacation time, also if due to an emergency an employee......

Managing Staff

...Managing Staff Donald Musgrave HCA/270 Financial Matters For Health Care Professionals January 29, 2014 Kevin Scheponik Managing Staff Managing staff can be very challenging, understand the cost of productive and nonproductive work may be as important as any other cost the company may have to plan. Knowing the cost tied to staffing can help a manager to see the labor burden that is present in the current budget. Having choices in using annualized or scheduled-position methods are important steps to plan for future cost and recording the benefits of both will bring the health care manager budgeting options for the organization. The cost of staffing is a burden that healthcare managers have to plan for in order to provide a profitable service delivery system. The hours that an employee works as well as the rate of pay are the main ingredients of the health care managers concerns when it relates to staffing and budgets abilities (Feldman, 2013). Defining the productive work hours from the nonproductive work hours is not a difficult task; it is the ability to understand how nonproductive hours need to accounted for within the budgeting process. The differences that separate the annualized method and the scheduled-position method for a healthcare manager start with an understanding of how to stabilize the cost of labor within the organization. With the annualized method, a manager can plan for the cost of each employee concerning his or her hourly salaries, vacation...
