The social web is a somewhat new and exciting place where people from all over the world can connect without leaving the comfort of their own homes. Like any type of newfangled technology there are upsides and downsides that need to be considered before deciding if this is a good or bad thing. Like many other activities that utilize time and provide an escape from the pressures of the day, the social web has many advantages and downfalls; however, it is up to each of us to decide whether to participate or not. According to, the Social Web, or the Social Network, is a “…dedicated website or other application which enables users to communicate with each other by posting information, comments, messages, images, etc.”. The current top five social networking sites are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and MySpace. All of these are places where you can connect with others to share opinions, play games, share interests, and overall, it is a place to be social. This is a place where someone who has more of an introverted personality or low self-esteem can be popular or outgoing; a place where a person can connect with people from different countries that they may never visit. Some people compare how many “friends”, or contacts, they have made on these sites; many may be people that you have not actually met face to face but share similar interests with online.
Studies following the advantages and disadvantages of social networking have shown a connection between the relationship of Facebook and other social network sites and the development and maintenance of social capital, or social relations with productive benefits. Facebook usage was found to interact with measures of psychological well-being,…...

...Social Web Social web has been around for a very long time believe it or not. While it has its positives and negatives, the social web is a set of social relations that link people through the World Wide Web. It is a great way to communicate with others all around the world. You can keep in touch with friends and relatives, meet new friends, network for your business, and much more. The first email was send and delivered in 1971. Ward Christensen invented the first public BBS in the late 1970s, and another (named "The WELL") in the late 80's and early '90s arose as a popular online community. The actual first social website was (1995) by Randy Conrads then followed by (1997) by Andrew Weinreich. British computer scientist Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee wrote:” The Web is more a social creation than a technical one. I designed it for a social effect to help people work together and not as a technical toy. The ultimate goal of the Web is to support and improve our web like existence in the world. We clump into families, associations, and companies. We develop trust across the miles and distrust around the corner. What we believe, endorse, agree with, and depend on is representable and, increasingly, represented on the Web.” The social web has come a very long way and is now one of the most popular ways to communicate with family and friends. Even businesses are using the social web to network and advertise. Some of the......

Since, there are so many web games on the internet, not very many people know what really happens behind the scenes of the web game. What Makes You Who You Are

...Briana Moniz Professor Firmender Introduction to College Writing 27 October 2015 There are many factors that shape a person into who they are or who they will become in the future. Not many people can say that they grew up without one of the most important people that will ever be in their life, but unfortunately I did. Imagine not remembering your father, being raised by a single parent, and the worst part of it all, not knowing what its like to have a dad. . For me, my dad passed away when I was just one year old and I believe that is a huge factor in who I am today. It was ten days before I turned two when he passed; I don’t remember anything about him expect his face and that was only from looking at pictures. When I hear the word dad, I most certainly think of mine in an instant, but no memories come to my mind, just his face along with the hope he is up there in heaven. He sang a couple of songs in a band that he was in with a few of my older cousins, which left me with opportunity to get an idea of what his voice sounded like. I have his laugh according to my whole family and my grandma almost cries every time she sees me because apparently, I am a spitting image of my father, who I don’t even know. When I was a little girl I could not bare to be without my mom; I hated going to school and I hated when she went to work, I just never wanted to be away from her because I didn’t know if she would ever disappear like my dad did. I was obsessed with my mom, I......

What Makes Your Tired and What You Can Do About It

...ESSAY: What Makes You Tired-and What You Can Do About It Here is an astounding and significant fact: Mental work alone can't make you tired. Sounds absurd. But a few years ago, scientists tried to find out how long the human brain could labour without reaching "a diminished capacity for work", the scientific definition of fatigue. To the amazement of these scientists, they discovered that blood passing through the brain, when it is active, shows no fatigue at all! If you took blood from the veins of a day labourer while he was working, you would find it full of "fatigue toxins" and fatigue products. But if you took a drop of blood from the brain of an Albert Einstein, it would show no fatigue toxins whatever at the end of the day. So far as the brain is concerned, it can work "as well and as swiftly at the end of eight or even twelve hours of effort as at the beginning". The brain is utterly tireless. ... So what makes you tired? Psychiatrists declare that most of our fatigue derives from our mental and emotional attitudes. One of England's most distinguished psychiatrists, J.A. Hadfield, says in his book The Psychology of Power: "the greater part of the fatigue from which we suffer is of mental origin; in fact exhaustion of purely physical origin is rare." One of America's most distinguished psychiatrists, Dr. A.A. Brill, goes even further. He declares: "One hundred per cent of the fatigue of the sedentary worker in good health is due to psychological factors...

What "Makes Up" Makeup

...What “Makes Up” Makeup: A Short History of Cosmetics At the start of every morning, my mother wakes up an hour earlier than necessary to “put on her face.” As a kid, I never understood what she was doing and was constantly annoyed that it would take her extremely long to get ready to go somewhere that was barely down the street. Why was she putting makeup on to go grocery shopping? To my grandma’s house? “Because I like to, Shyla,” was the only answer I ever got. But being that young, makeup was something you only wore on special days: on Halloween, to disguise yourself as someone else or a wedding, to be pretty. My mom wearing it daily confused me. As a woman, contradictions are shot at you like bullets. “Be natural, but don’t you dare have any blemishes, pimples, scars or hair anywhere that isn’t your head.” “A girl wearing absolutely no makeup, bare faced and natural isn’t enough, but a girl wearing heavy eyeshadow and face makeup is slutty.” Everything we do is somehow scrutinized through the eyes of what a man would or wouldn’t like. We have an endless list of standards we must live up to, all the while making sure to be ourselves, because guys don’t like fake girls. Some view makeup as a weapon of destruction, like it’s lying to the world, making people appear to be flawless models with it, but completely different person without it. All those years of watching my mom layer on product after product, wondering what the point of all of it was, I realized......

...What Makes an Army Leader Submission Field : 1. Clearly define the ethical problem. The ethical problem is if I should be honest and report this security breech. 2. Employ applicable laws and regulations. I would have to check my unit's internal Standard Operation Procedures to determine what the regulations are regarding proper disposal of classified documents. 3. Reflect on the ethical values and their ramifications. There are seven core Army values. I don't believe that all seven apply to this situation, but I will reflect on the ones that I think are relevant. The first Army value is "Loyalty". Is reporting SGT Day for his decision to cover up this discovery showing disloyalty to my unit? The second Army value is "Duty". I am to fulfill my obligations and refuse to take shortcuts that could undermine the integrity of those obligations. The third Army value is "Respect". Part of that Army value is trusting that all people have done their jobs and fulfilled their duty. Is reporting this breech of security showing a "distrust" in SFC Sharp and SGT Day? The fifth Army value is "Integrity". That means that I will not do or say anything that deceives others. If I agree with SGT Day, and do as he suggests, I am violating my personal beliefs to do what is right. 4. Consider other applicable moral principles. I can not violate my own personal moral principals. Whatever decision I make, I will have to live with. Is accepting SGT Day's suggestion being......

The Social Web mostly refers to Social networking, MySpace for example, and content-sharing sites (which also offer a Social networking functionality) within Web 2.0. ...The History of Social Web Ashley Jackson INF 103 Professor Jaclyn Minor May 24, 2012 The social web was first designed with the intention of just having a fun way to interact with friends and family over the Internet. Over the years, it has grown into one of the most popular forms of social interaction. This paper will discuss the past history of the social web, as well as the most popular sites of the present, including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, and Friendster. I will show the pros and cons of social networking with facts and information I have obtained through research. The term “social web” does not exclusively belong to digital technology on the Web. On the contrary, social networks have been studied since the beginning of 20th century with the aim of comprehending how the members of a certain community interact and the mechanisms through which this interaction takes place, (Postigo, 2011). Today, social networking commonly refers to all those activities that are carried out within specific online services that provide free space and software tools, which allow users to create networks of people. In most instances, a social networking service is a website that allows individuals to construct a public or semi-public profile. The profile is usually made by filling out a template with the user’s personal data. This data is not only limited to the users’......
