What I have learned about myself What have I learned in this class? I have actually learned quite a bit about myself and the way I currently communicate with others. My communication has mainly been on a social level, even at work, my jobs haven’t really required me to be communicating with people with medical needs. Now going into the medical field I know I need to start now in changing the current way I communicate. This class has been a real eye opener in the direction which I would like to take. I have a desire to work with the elderly and hospice patients. Your (Tim) lectures have been most enlightening hearing about your professional experience in this area. I know I need to work on my listening skills. I have already been working on this task. By ensuring what has been said to the sender gives the sender a message of genuine concern and keeps me on task with the conversation. I have applied this to my social communications as well. You’re a great teacher with a ton of good life experiences that I have found most helpful with my growth in the medical field.
I also learned I am very interested in self hypnosis. Just the couple of things you (Tim) taught us I have already used and have told friends of the new ideas. One I use almost daily is when I am going to sleep at night and can’t fall asleep, telling myself to “to go to sleep” in my head, really works. I use to have a hard time falling asleep but not anymore. Thank you for a nice class, I just wish we would have had more lecture time.

Seven Main Factors that Influence Communication

Theries of Biology

...CheckPoint: Theories of Biology Charles Darwin first came up with the theory of Evolution by Natural Selection. Darwin’s theorized that there was a scientific explanation for why there are so many different types of creatures and animals. The main part of the theory of Evolution by natural selection is that all animals change over time. Darwin’s theory was that over the generations all species will slowly evolve, or change, to better be suited for their environment. Over time the said species will actually evolve so much so that it will be recognized as an entirely new species. The theory of Inheritance was developed by a monk named Gregor Mendel. Mendel’s theory was that all living organisms, including plants and animals, have hereditary factors called “genes” that are passed on from the parent to the offspring. This is a proven factor in why offspring will have certain traits that are similar to the parents; i.e. eye color, height, or skin tone. Matthias Schleiden and Theodor Schwann, with the help of modern technology, discovered and theorized that all living organisms are composed of cells. This is known as the Cell Theory. Furthermore, the theory is that all living things are composed of cells, and these cells can only be created by already living cells. Delving further into this theory will explain how cells can split, divide and multiply into different cells which in turn will create a living thing. Biological Classification is the process of......

...higher derivatives, and the notion of an approximating polynomial series. By Newton's time, the fundamental theorem of calculus was known. When Newton and Leibniz first published their results, there was great controversy over which mathematician (and therefore which country) deserved credit. Newton derived his results first (later to be published in his Method of Fluxions), but Leibniz published his Nova Methodus pro Maximis et Minimis first. Newton claimed Leibniz stole ideas from his unpublished notes, which Newton had shared with a few members of the Royal Society. This controversy divided English-speaking mathematicians from continental mathematicians for many years, to the detriment of English mathematics. A careful examination of the papers of Leibniz and Newton shows that they arrived at their results independently, with Leibniz starting first with integration and Newton with differentiation. Today, both Newton and Leibniz are given credit for developing calculus independently. It is Leibniz, however, who gave the new discipline its name. Newton called his calculus "the science of fluxions". Since the time of Leibniz and Newton, many mathematicians have contributed to the continuing development of calculus. One of the first and most complete works on finite and infinitesimal analysis was written in 1748 by Maria Gaetana Agnesi.[12] Maria Gaetana Agnesi Foundations In calculus, foundations refers to the rigorous development of a subject from precise axioms and......

Pavlovian Thery

...Classical conditioning shapes many of society's common, everyday tasks. Whether we know it or not, many actions we do numerous times a day are a direct result of classical conditioning. To better understand why we act the way we do in society, classical conditioning must be defined and described. Classical conditioning is defined as: a process by which a previously neutral stimulus acquires the capacity to elicit a response through association with a stimulus that already elicits a similar or related response. Discovered by Ivan Pavlov, classical conditioning is a form of learning. Pavlov revealed this trait when experimenting with dog's amounts of saliva in response to meat. He started noticing that after many repetitions, the dogs were salivating before the meat was even introduced. Pavlov concluded that some other stimulus that was repetitively associated with the meat was triggering the salivation. This simple concept describes how many actions are carried out in society today. Many times classical conditioning is not something that is purposefully done, but rather an incidental outcome. Conditioning may take a variable amount of time to occur. For example, humans are not born associating red with stop. As we grow, and ride in cars, we begin to consciously or subconsciously figure out that when a stoplight is red-you stop. Stop signs are red, stoplights are red, and brake lights are red. All of these things symbolize stopping. Yes, when you turn sixteen and you get......

...deinking Paper recycling processes can use either chemical or mechanical pulp. By mixing with water and applying mechanical action the hydrogen bonds in the paper can be broken and fibres separated again. Most recycled paper contains a proportion of virgin fibre in the interests of quality. Generally deinked pulp is of the same quality or lower than the collected paper it was made from. There are three main classifications of recycled fibre:. Mill Broke or Internal Mill Waste – this incorporates any substandard or grade-change paper made within the paper mill which then goes back into the manufacturing system to be re-pulped back into paper. Such out-of-specification paper is not sold and is therefore often not classified as genuine reclaimed recycled fibre. However, most paper mills have been recycling their own waste fibre for many years, long before recycling become popular. Preconsumer Waste – this is offcuts and processing waste, such as guillotine trims and envelope blank waste. This waste is generated outside the paper mill and could potentially go to landfill, and is a genuine recycled fibre source. Also includes de-inked preconsumer (recycled material that has been printed but did not reach its intended end use, such as waste from printers and unsold publications).[7] Postconsumer waste – this is fibre from paper which has been used for its intended end use and would include office waste, magazine papers and newsprint. As the vast majority of this paper has......
