You are the manager of a large data processing project. Your company, Systems Inc., worked very hard to obtain a contract with Big Bank to do their conversions from their recent acquisition, Small Bank.. The bank met with several companies to discuss who would do the best work on the contract. During your meeting with Big Bank, you told them that you had “never missed a conversion deadline.” At the time, your company had never missed a conversion deadline, but the company had only done three conversions. You also told them that your data processing systems were the fastest around.” After months of negotiation, Big Bank signed the contract. The President of Big Bank said, “We like fast, and you guys are fast. We choose you.” You started work on the data conversion immediately (ahead of contract). According to the contract, your team was responsible for ensuring that the new bank’s data was converted to Big Bank’s data processing system. The contract involved six large conversions. The first involved converting Big Bank’s savings accounts, the second its checking accounts, the third its investment portfolio, the forth its credit card, the fifth its mortgage portfolios and the six its large business loans. Your team completed four of the six conversions without a problem. The fifth task, the largest and most important, has encountered numerous problems. Some problems have been based on personnel issues on your part and other issues have been based on the bank’s failure to provide you with necessary information. Resource calendars define the working days and working hours for a specific resource. The default base calendar (also known as the project calendar) is called Standard. This standard calendar is usually set as an 8-hour day, 40-hour week, Monday through Friday, with no holidays. However, you can modify this standard calendar, but it is not recommended. MS Project also comes with two other base calendars: a 24-hour calendar and a night shift calendar. You can also create your own base calendars. ...CHAPTER 2 After reading chapter 2 I found that I really like how it shows you what learning style you are on the Multiple Pathways to learning exercise. I found I was an intrapersonal learner, but verbal-linguistic, visual-spatial, Logical Mathematical, and Bodily-kinesthetic came in a very close second. I was really not too surprised by the results. Now the personality spectrum was kind of a surprise though I scored highest in the organizer section. This section just does not seem to describe me. I would have pegged myself as scoring highest in the giver section. The giver section just sounds more like me. There was only a 4 point difference so I guess I was not too far off. Did anyone else find the result to be on point or were you really surprise you with the results? CHAPTER 4 After reading chapter 4 I have learned better ways of studying and how the size of your vocabulary makes a difference. I liked how the reading suggested to work on speed reading and try to read 15000 words a minute. I have a very hard time imagining reading that many words in a minute even 500 word a minute sounds like it is a whole lot and I am not sure if I could really retain anything I read at that speed. Do you think it is possible to comprehend at 500 words a minute? I also like how the hammer on the issue of broadening your vocabulary by using context clues, the prefixes and suffixes, using a dictionary and using the glossary in the back of the book. China’s share of the American market leaped from 5 percent to almost 17 percent over the same period, while U.S. employment in the tire industry fell by more than 5,000 jobs and domestic production slumped from 218 million tires to 160 million tires. The Chinese import was causing a market disruption and the U.S. implemented a three year tariff on imported tires. The tariff consisted of a 35 percent tariff for the first year followed by a 30 percent tariff the second year then a 25 percent tariff the final year. The tariffs were place on top of an existing 4 percent import tariff. ...In week 1, my expectations were to build on what I already knew about the Sarbanes-Oxley Acts from work experience. My expectations were met and even exceeded my expectations. I came into the week with some unanswered questions and after the reading and discussion questions, they were answered. I had a broad understanding of the Sarbanes-Oxley from work experience and never got into the details, which this class allowed me to get into and really grasp what was put into the Acts and how to fully apply the Acts to real experience. Going into the week, I wasn’t really expecting much for budgets but by the end of the week I realized I didn’t know that much about the different kinds of budgets out there. It has helped me in my current positions because we do quite a bit of budgeting for some of our clients. My week 4 expectations were fairly low because of the audits I was a part of during my audit days. I do very little audit work nowadays but it was a great refresher to keep it fresh. Everything that I read during this week I knew and just reaffirmed my knowledge. We would split the audit up and my sections were the sections we covered during this week. When I first started auditing I had no accounting experience, I didn’t have any classes to fall back on.
