| What I Have Become | Sandtron Leon Harrell | | | |

Approaching the end of my Fall Semester of 2011 I had accomplished one of the greatest things in my life. I had become a member Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. All was well and I felt as though there was not too much else for me to conquer. Then as the semester drew to a close being advised and selecting classes for the Spring Semester began to be advertised all over myUWG. So to rid myself of all the irksome alerts of West Georgia I went and got advised. While selecting my classes my advisor brought up Personal Relationships. When I first heard it the first two things I thought were “my girlfriend took that class” and “she said it was easy.” So with me being the collegiate student I am I decided I would take it. I figured why not I’m in a personal relationship I should be able to relate. The first day of class was definitely not what I expected. I did not know that my teacher would look, think and talk like a student! From then on I knew that this was class was going to have the biggest impact on me, the way I thought, the way I talked, the way I evaluated relationships and how I looked at my life’s up and downs all together we’re going to change in due time. From the time I got advised up to the first day of class I honestly thought that this was just going to be another class. When in reality it wasn’t just another class, it was going to be THE class. From January 10, 2012 and so on, my life would make a distinctive turn, for the better. And with this turn came the reminder said by Frederick Douglass “if there is no struggle, there is no progress” (Douglass, 1857). I came into this class as Sandtron Leon Harrell flaws and all. I have things to work on as well as the next man, or woman. However in order for this class to help me in the way that I knew it could I had to realize that…...

What I Have Learned

...LIFE, AS WE KNOW IT From different ups and downs I had experienced and from different people I have met in my college days, I can say that I had learned so much, much more than high school and elementary days. If those younger years let me become learned of basic education, this stage of life, being a college student taught me more than medical and nursing concepts. But it also taught me about other aspects of life such as the whole life itself, understanding other people’s life and feelings, knowing how me, myself and I help me in every problems, treasuring friendships and respecting other people. Health care spirituality is one of the courses that let me learn how these things affect my living. It teaches me more about life and the consequences of it. Life is a continuing process of learning. I believe that the every good deed, and everything we do to others, will not be written on transcript of records, but recorded on Almighty’s. At first, going to college made me feel ambivalent feelings. Feelings of excitement, fear, feeling of being misunderstood, not being heard, and of being alone. Coming from a Catholic school high school institution, I decided to choose a Catholic college institution. One selfish reason is that, I prefer to go to school which has a lower dense of population, I don’t prefer to be in a crowded universities and college, because I think that the lower the population is, the more focused the teachers and administration can give to the students.......

What Have I Learned Through This Online Class?

...What Have I Learned? Discovering and choosing a online program that fulfills all of my needs was a rigorous yet exciting task. The penn foster clearly emerged as the best choice for me and I, as a great match comparatively with other high school programs. After visiting the website, reading the information pamphlet, and researching the online high school program Web site, I realize that penn foster offers what I hope to gain from my college experience. In return, I will contribute to the penn foster as a person with leadership qualities who takes initiative and enjoys participating in school events. Through this course, I have learned about everything that I need to succeed in my life. Now that I have a clear understanding of the key terms I am ready to answer the question at hand. The knowledge that I have acquired from many different courses dealing with the general cause and principles of things is that I must be clear on my terms. I believe that this is the most important part of succeding. If I attempt to answer this or any other question without a clear understanding of the key terms I might incorrectly analysis the question. I can not deal with the general cause and principles of things if I’m not clear on their exact meaning. I have also acquired knowledge about others personal attitude. I have learned that there are many different Philosophies one can have, and that one should not prejudge on that Philosophy. I have learned that in most people’s minds they......

What I Have Learned

...What Have I Learned By Charles Myers When I started this course I was not aware there were so many types of written communication being used in the work place. The field of technical communication is a lot more involved and diverse than what I was aware of. In my past line of work I was not exposed to much in the way of technical writing, I mainly used part drawings and something we called route sheets. These were documents that followed a part through the manufacturing process from start to finish. At the time I was using them I did not think about what went into designing them so they would be easy to read and interpret by all people who came in contact with them. Now I have a greater respect for people that have to design such documents on a daily basis. After taking this course I feel I would be more able to do something like this myself if the need ever comes. The course has also helped me see the need for having a well written resume in order find a better job once I complete my course of study. I have never needed a resume before in the field of work that I was in, but I can see that will probably change when I change careers. The field that I plan to go into will give me a greater chance to use the skills I have learned in this course more so than anything I have done before. I still do not consider myself to be a writer, but I am better prepared with the basics and have the course text that I can use to refer back on when the need arises. I now see that I......

To What Extent Have Pime Ministers Become More Presidential

...To what extent have the UK prime ministers become more ‘presidential’? ( 25 ) T he theory that prime ministers are becoming more presidential can come under the term ‘presidentialism’. This is the notion that the British prime minister has outgrown the parliamentary system. This suggests that UK prime ministers increasingly resemble presidents such as Wilson, Thatcher and Blair usually being seen as key examples. Evidence that shows the growth of presidentialism is that some prime ministers tend to distance themselves from their parties and governments by representing themselves as outsiders or even developing personal ideological stance for example ‘Thatcherism’ or ‘Blarism’. Another piece of evidence is that prime ministers have personalized election campaigns which means the mass media increasingly portrays elections as personalized battles between the prime minister and the leader of the opposition. Party leaders thus become the ‘brand image’ of their parties or government which means that personality and image have become major determinants of political success or failure. Furthermore, prime ministers have a strengthened cabinet office. The size and administrative resources available to the cabinet office have grown, turning it into a small-scale prime ministers department responsible for coordinating the rest of Whitehall. Also, prime ministers are using a wider range of special advisors as they are relying increasingly on hand-picked political advisors rather than...

I Have a Dream

...A Dream That Is Still Coming True After studying the Emancipation Proclamation and segregation is high school, I know a little bit about black suffrage and the Civil Rights Movement. However, Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech “I Have a Dream” puts it into perspective just a little bit better. No one truly knows the severity of a situation until they hear it from a primary source. If I had to pick one quote to sum up what I learned, I would have to choose, “It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment.” Learning about segregation in my high school was very different from reading about it in this speech. I went to a mostly white high school with very few minorities. Of course we touched on the subject and discussed how it was awful but there was no one to put emotion into it. There was no one to make us see just how unfairly African Americans were treated. Being from a small, slightly Southern town, I think I was stripped of the opportunity to become more familiar with black culture. That being said, I do think King’s speech was effective, however, the effects still haven’t reached some people. King had amazing intentions with this speech. He wanted nothing more than freedom and equal rights for African Americans. I do believe this speech was straight from the heart and sincere in every way. Personally, I think he was right in every way making this speech and saying things that no one had dared to say in public. No African American had been able...

I Have No Idea What I'M Doing

...Nature of Religion and Beliefs What is a Worldview? One of the biggest problems of present society is the effect of overall change and acceleration on human psychology. Neither individual minds nor collective culture seem able to cope with the unpredictable change and growing complexity. Stress, uncertainty and frustration increase, minds are overloaded with information, knowledge fragments, values erode, negative developments are consistently overemphasized, while positive ones are ignored. The resulting climate is one of nihilism, anxiety and despair. While the wisdom gathered in the past has lost much of its validity, we don't have a clear vision of the future either. As a result, there does not seem to be anything left to guide our actions. What we need is a framework that ties everything together, that allows us to understand society, the world, and our place in it, and that could help us to make the critical decisions which will shape our future. It would synthesize the wisdom gathered in the different scientific disciplines, philosophies and religions. Rather than focusing on small sections of reality, it would provide us with a picture of the whole. In particular, it would help us to understand, and therefore cope with, complexity and change. Such a conceptual framework may be called a "world view". A model of the world It should allow us to understand how the world functions and how it is structured. "World" here means the totality, everything that exists around...

What I Have Learned

...A few Things I have learned in my 18 Years Life tosses a lot of lessons, some are difficult to learn and some are easier, it’s all about how you handle it. Something’s that life wants you to know, are little and stupid and seem life they don’t have any significance to your life. However, it is either going to educate you not to do it again, or it will be a amusing story to tell your friends down the road. The little things make life a little lighter sometimes where as the large things helps you open your eyes and helps you in the long run. Life has taught me numerous things. Everyday I learn something new, adding to that list. One of the very first things that I recall learning, is to not lie on the ground attempting to look underneath the vacuum when mom is in the middle of vacuuming. For some individuals, this lesson is one that does not need to be learned, but for me, it was something I had to learn. Spending hours of crying, as my mother pulled every strand of hair out, and hours of my mom being annoyed yet laughing about it anyways because how bizarre is it, that I got my hair stuck in the vacuum. While facing the pain, I thought I learned that I should steer clear of housework; my mom on the other hand, did not. Something else I have learned is that telling someone that they look ill or worn-out, isn’t going to make him or her feel better. I, of all people should know, this because if someone were to walk up to me and say something like that, my heart would...

“Am I a Product of My Past or Do I Have a Choice in What I Do? Why Do I Do What I Do?”

...I believe that our environment can inhibit our options, but the choices we make can enhance our experience within the environment we have been placed in. In my stance on the question at hand I would like to present my take on Skinner’s ideas that, “It is the environment which is responsible for objectionable behavior, and it is the environment, not some attribute of the individual, which must be changed.” and, “A person does not act upon the world, the world acts upon him.” I understand Skinner’s view point, however, I differ from his ideas in three ways: first, we are products of the choices we have made in the past; secondly, our physical environment can be changed by us; and third, our mental environment is influenced by authorities, but not controlled. In the following paragraphs I will use observational learning, instinctive drift, and behavior modification to explain each of my personal views pertaining to the question, “Why do I do what I do?” I have lived in Southwest Kansas my entire life because my parents chose to start their lives here; therefore I am a product of the choice my parents made for me seventeen years ago pertaining to where I live. However, like any environment there are ecological factors to consider such as weather, wildlife, and resources. For example, let’s say I had only previously encountered garter snakes and bullsnakes and had had positive experiences with both, and my parents had never told me to fear snakes. Then one day I encounter...

What Would I Do If I Would Have to Die in a Year?

...What Would I Do If I Would Have to Die in a Year? Mortality is something that binds us all. We may have different personalities, different colors, different accents, but we all are human. Sometimes death sneaks up on someone and takes him by surprise. Sometimes it lingers until the person he's visiting knows the friendship will go on a deeper level soon. First I would take a lovely first class cruise around the world for one entire year, or, maybe just use the ships as a constant base from which to explore other worlds, until the fateful day. I would try and travel to every place on Earth, and have as many deep and spiritual conversations as possible, meet the great spiritual and influential philosophical thinkers in the world today, starting with His Holiness the Dali Lama. Then, when the time of passing to the next existence comes, have those that love me, who know me, all around me, for a peaceful, calming, soul releasing experience, and to let them know, it is not a moment of emotional disaster, but one of triumph and transition, for the human spirit. However, life is beautiful and amazing, and probably for us its too early to think about death, because we have so much unfinished work to do and make our families happier,Mortality is something that binds us all. We may have different personalities, different colors, different accents, but we all are human. Sometimes death sneaks up on someone and takes him by surprise. Sometimes it lingers until the person......

I Have

...Economic opportunity, social equality and personal freedom are societal ideals desired by nearly every individual, and such is no different for those who lived the Cuban Revolution. Poet and political activist Nicolás Guillén well documents these widely sought after ideals in Cuban society by expressing the newfound liberties of post-revolutionary Cuba in his 1964 poem “I Have.” Through anaphoric repetition of the poem’s titular phrase, Guillén emphatically depicts a vibrant Cuban nation teeming with natural beauty, societal peace and equality, and individual liberties by poetically listing the newfound personal freedoms and opportunities of post-revolutionary Cuban society. Guillén illustrates the dissipation of racial and class divisions by establishing himself, “being Black,” as a firsthand authority in witnessing the changing social climate of Cuba (29). By specifically referring to his skin color as a source of his authority on the subject, Guillén establishes ethos in his firsthand accounts of how racial and class boundaries are deteriorating. To evidence his assertion of a positively transformed social climate, Guillén illustrates a new Cuban society devoid of racist mentalities and remarks by calling upon specific examples of how no one can “stop [him] at the door” or “on the rug of a hotel” and how no one can “scream at [him] that there are no rooms” (30-32). Guillén’s illustration of dissipating racial tensions is accompanied his personal account of how he......

To What Extent Have Uk Prime Ministers Become More Presidential

...The first thing that must be assessed when being faced with the presidentialism of our prime ministers is the fact that they are not our head of state whereas presidents are heads of state. However our prime minister is or head of government. The head of state is responsible for attending political functions, exercising political powers and legitimising the state. They also have the power to call for early elections and are responsible for signing off all laws passed in parliamentary government. Whereas the head of government is the leader of the ruling party and is the chief of the executive branch. Their responsibilities are implementing laws and making all important decisions with the approval of the cabinet. In the presidential form of government the head of government and the head of state are the same individual whereas in our government the head of state is the Queen and the head of government is the prime minister. One way that the prime minister can be seen as becoming presidential is the greater concentration on the presentation of policy. The prime minister likes to be associated with the positive policies being enforced and passed through their government, guidance and leadership. So as to add to their public appeal. Famously Blair announced on Breakfast TV that the government was to make significant investments in the health service. Brown accused the prime minister of stealing his budget when in fact Brown was due to make the announcement the following day as...

Become a Dog I Mean God!

...BECOME A DOG (I MEAN GOD, SORRY, MY DYSLEXIA KICKED IN There are numerous different religions in our world, but there are only five world-recognized religions – Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism. What is the different between a cult and a religion and is it really an easy thing, to start a religion or a cult and what does it take to become a god? ‘’BECOME A DOG (I MEAN GOD, SORYY MY DYSLEXIA KIKED IN’’ is the name of the article written by Forrest Griffin, which William Morrow published in 2010. In his article, he explains the difference between a cult and a religion. He also explains how to become a god. The language is simple with some unusual words and with a lot of slang into it, even though when you normally talk about religion the language is more normally charged. The first person narrator uses a very ironic tone. He uses a lot of irony and humour in the text. We already see the use of humour in the title ‘’BECOME A DOG (I MEAN GOD, SORRY MY DYLEXIA KICKED IN’’ where he blames his dyslexia, for typing dog instead of god, but when we see him typing with no other mistakes in the rest of the article we know that he is not dyslexia. The narrator also uses some kind of provocation in the title, so those who read the article, feels some kind of provocation. He carries on with using the irony and humour in the rest of the article, for example when the narrator tries to explain the definition of religion, and a cult he explains it with a normal......

Macroeconomics What I Have Gained

...Macroeconmics was more difficult than I expected. I feel that this should have been a class that I should have taken in a classroom setting, but due to my schedule and location, it would not have been possible to do so. To be successful in this course, I was to pay attention to details and work my assignments in sequential order, work consistently and not procrastinate and read all of the course documents. I followed through on some of these things but lacked on some as well. I would have to say that in grading myself, I would give myself a C, which is what I have earned so far in this course. The most surprising thing I learned in economics is that I didn’t really know much at all about the subject, and still do not feel like I have mastered it. I was completely unaware of the Keynesian Economics. I learned more about the history of economic falls in our country. I learned that I was not fully aware of how the economy works especially when it comes to our government and industries. I have gone over so many different things that I am completely overwhelmed and currently cannot specify one specific thing that was eye-opening or life changing. Macroeconomics did change my way of thinking when it comes to the economy and how things are constantly changing and how our unemployment rate effects us nation wide. What I have learned in this class has changed how I feel about money management and not saving. I have always known that I need to save and that my finances......

Why I Want to Become a Teacher

...Why I Want To Become A Teacher In this paper, I will discuss the reasons why I want to become a teacher. I will address the extrinsic and intrinsic motivations behind my decision. I will also discuss the community impact, my calling or vocation, commitment to students, impact on family, and role modeling. There are approximately 1.5 million Elementary teachers in the United States (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2009). Why did all of these decide to become teacher's? Some choose this path because of the summer's off and the time they have to spend with their own children and families. Some choose it because of the challenge, everyday is different and presents new things. Some choose it because they love children and want to make a difference in someone's life (Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, 2010). I chose to become a teacher for many different reasons. First is the extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, or the reward received and the what is enjoyable about this career. Both for me is seeing the success of the student's. Watching their progression from day one to the last day. Seeing them grow and mature as individuals and seeing their untapped abilities being released. These are my main motivation and what is enjoyable to me about this career. Second is the community impact. I am currently an active member of the Make-A-Wish organization for the Northwest region. I am a wish granter for the organization and specifically work with local families. My......
