Why I am returning to school
On December 8 2011, I decided to return back to school to get a degree in something I can enjoy doing until I retire. Anymore you need a degree to get a good career job. So these are my choices and my reasons for coming back to school. There are some good benefits from returning to school and also some obstacles I am to overcome for getting my degree. There are also changes in my lifestyle I have to change in order to earn my degree. I chose to come back to school for a numerous of reasons, to better myself, to be a role model for my girls and do good for my family, to get a good career job, and also to be a few from my family to get a college degree.
Some of the benefits of getting a college degree are being able to get a good paying career job that you can be happy with and enjoy going to work. After I graduate and earn my degree, I will feel like I actually completed something big in my life. Another benefit is my support system supporting me the whole way through me earning a degree. A good benefit would be to get a good paying career job after earning my degree.
Some of the changes I have had to encounter are since I have separated from the Navy. I have been a stay at home mom. I just really have to work around my girls and the house cleaning and any errands I have. I am not used to being at home all of the time and I really need to force myself to focus on my school work. I also have to make myself focus I have been diagnosed with ADHD and the least little distraction will completely throw my attention span off. I didn’t do well in high school; I wasn’t focused and I didn’t really care when I was in high school, now this is not the case. College is something I am not being forced to do so I know I will do…...

Why I Am Where I Am

...years of schooling I have always had the worst exsperience. I was teased all my years of elementry, middle school I was ignored, high school I was the "GEEK" who wore her mothers and sisters clothing. It seems like I have never had a break. I was never able to concentrate on school because I was just always worried about what everyone was saying about me. I was in and out of school, skipping class, hiding in bathrooms just to ignore the akward step of walking into a classroom. I never had anyone to talk to about these things, so I just kept everything inside of me. My mother "then", was not focused on us. She didnt wake us up in the mornings, she didnt get us ready for school, she wouldnt take us to school if we missed the bus. My second oldest sister did all of those things. If we missed the bus I remember having to run across the highway, and this is elementry and middle school days, to catch the bus before it went around the turn around. I never had someone forcing me to go to school or help me through my troubled years. I had to learn to coop on my own and get through things on my own. By the time I got into highschool i just didnt care anymore, I started hanging out with the wrong people doing things that I shouldnt have been doing having to switch schools countless times all eventually led me to just dropping out of high school. By this time, I was 18 and I was forced to live with my boyfriend and his family because of my mother kicking me out right when I turned 18.......

Why Am I Here

...Why am I Here? The decision to further my education was made long before I completed high school; however, at the time I did not have the resources at my disposal to achieve my life goals. In conversations I had with individuals that I surrounded myself with I realized that furthering my education should be a top priority. The decision was made to join the armed services which had a huge impact on my life. Not only did the rigors of military life provide me with the discipline that I would need to succeed, but it would eventually avail a litany of resources thereby enabling me to pursue select long and short-term goals such as purchasing property and building a home. Over the years I’ve been motivated by an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and by living vicariously through family, friends, and their college experience(s). Along comes the Great Recession; a period in our history that continues to impact every hard working American and the global society. The unfortunate events leading up to the recession and the subsequent implosion of the economy, if you will, forced me to seriously ponder my future. Why now? “Why not?” would be the easiest way to answer that question, but the more obvious answer is the fulfillment of my goals. You see I never gave up on them I just chose another route. I envision a better quality of life following successful completion of my degree program that will not only affect me but family and friends. I presume that more opportunities will present......

Returning to School

...Returning to School Learning new skills and knowledge is something that is required every day in my job. Currently, I am not eligible for promotions because I do not have the necessary college degree. When I am competing with other applicants for new positions that do not require a college degree, I am at a disadvangage to applicants that do have a formal education. I want a college degree so I can compete with others for jobs in which I am qualified. Today’s employment market is filled with talented people who have various degrees, speak multiple languages, and have varying experience levels. Without a degree, it will become increasingly difficult, as I get older to find a position that I not only enjoy but that also provides for my family. At the end of my degree program, I hope that I have gained skills in three areas: critical thinking, writing, and collaboration. Of these three areas, my critical thinking skills need the most attention. I will work on the following areas: imporoving my ability to look at other options, ask open-ended questions, and conduct research. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Summary of the purpose and importance of using a style guide. To state it simply, the purpose and importance of following a style guide is for consistent and efficient writing. Following a style guide benefits both readers and writers. The benefit for writers is ease and efficiency of writing; as a writer moves through the writing process, he or......

Why I Am in College

...attending College? Ever since I have been attending college all I hear is all my professors ask, why we are attending college? I have thought about it really well. At first I was attending college to please my parents. Then I had a baby and as she is growing and time passes by I see that economically everything is going up. In reality I know why I am attending college. I am in college to improve my economic status, be an example for my children, and to achieve my life goal of being a petroleum engineer. As I was growing up, I seen my parents struggle in paying bills. At times we would have our light cut off and be running extension wires from our neighbor home to ours in order to manage, until we had the money for the bill. I also recall asking for things and my mother saying, Sorry sweaty we don’t have enough or we can’t afford it. Now that I am a father myself, I don’t want my children to feel the burden I felt just because my parents weren’t financially stable. Don’t get me wrong I had a wonderful child hood but there were moments that I wish I could have a certain object. I just would like to provide for my children and still have a little extra in my pocket just in case of any financial instability or purpose. The second reason I am attending college is to be a great example for my children. Neither my father nor mother attended College or graduated for High school. So far I am the only one who has graduated from high school and I want to be able to graduate......

Why I Am a Formalist

...appeals to me is like asking whether or not I want the recipe to the food I really like. Yes, the food still tastes good without knowing the details, but it makes it even more delicious when I know them, and I can understand why it tastes the way it does. The formalist approach to literary analysis gives you more insight to understanding the piece of literature as a whole. Similarly, when you eat something, such as a slice of pizza, you are eating many parts of a whole. Dough, cheese, marinara, and pepperonis are examples of these parts. Relatedly, these components of the literature could be things like historical context, author, and/or symbolism. Biting into that mouthwatering pizza would not be the same without all of those ingredients. It is better to understand where all the tastes are coming from. Knowing why the author writes the way he or she does or knowing how the setting affects the characters’ values can really make a difference in your ability to comprehend and break down all of the little details. It is these things that make reading more enjoyable, more so than just reading what is in front of me. With the reader response method, I can get much more meaning out of literature and sometimes even more meaning out of life. The formalist approach does not appeal to me because I do not just want to see something at face value. In short, the pizza would not taste the same without all of the different flavors, so why would I not find the recipe and figure out......

I want to secure their future, by having a college found for both of them separately, so they do not have to worry about money for college. Another good reason is, to help lighten the Burden on my husband’s shoulders if work would slow down, or he loses his job. Most of the time I would study right before a test or exam and pass it with flying colors. Towards the end of my senior year that when things began to get harder for me.
