In high I always maintained good s grades. I loved to attend school and hear my name called at the beginning of the class, with the teacher stating that I had received the highest grade out of the entire class. I would try to sit usually on the front row to get most of the information I needed to pass. I really never constantly study. Most of the time I would study right before a test or exam and pass it with flying colors. Towards the end of my senior year that when things began to get harder for me. I started to hang out with friends that meant me no good, which caused my grades to slip.
I also had to move out of the home with my mother to live with my aunt, which wasn’t the best stable environment for me. I finally, got back on track and got my grades to where they needed to be so I could graduate. I was engaged also, so I graduated on Tuesday and was married on that Saturday. After getting married, it started a whole new chapter of my life. I started working at a grocery store since we lived in a rural area. I soon became pregnant and after two children, I realized that working in a grocery was just not enough. I began a job search and was hired at Allstate Insurance. I pay and position was great, but I knew I could do more. I soon learned that in order to move up in a company that I had to…...

Why I?

...Why I love fashion At an early age wool, cotton, linen, and silk have been always a part of me. Not much has changed since that time except for the fact that I have grown to love and appreciate what goes on behind the scenes in the fashion industry. I simply dress to have amusement to my existence. As Bill Cunningham described in his wonderful documentary "Fashion is our suit of armor to survive every day life. It would be like doing away with civilization." I was confused on whether to engage my life to the fashion industry being such a competitive job. I believe that fashion has pushed me out of my comfort zone to try things I never would have imagined I would. What keeps me passionate about the fashion world is the freedom and creative expression one gets. You can express yourself and maybe people will listen or respond. If I see someone with a great pair of shoes on (for example), I may go up to them and tell them and we strike up a conversation and perhaps we become friends. This isn't always the case but it is more likely since you started with a mutual interest. I knew I could start making the world pretty one girl at a time! Fashions is art that we wear every day and live our lives in. Unless you live in a nudist colony, clothes are something that we must wear every day. The beauty of that is that through clothing we have the opportunity to express a part of our personalities and ourselves. I love beautiful and functional design of all types whether it be......

Why I Am Thankful

...Why I am Thankful What being thankful means to me is to see everything as a gift from God. I see my very life as a gift from God, and I am so thankful just because he lets me wake up every day. He has always provided for me with everything that I need so I never need to worry because he takes care of me. I am so thankful that my parents can afford to pay for my school, for my teachers, and for my close friends. I thank God for helping me get through my struggles. I thank God for the loving family I have. I have so much to be thankful for. My life wouldn't be the same without the people that have shaped and molded my character. They have helped me succeed, and for that, I am thankful. I think it is important to be humble, and remember all of the people that helped me get to where I am, whether it's my parents, my siblings, my close friends or even God. Being thankful is being able to not focus on the hardships of life, and instead acknowledging everything in my life that has made it better. I am thankful to God and my family, and my friends, and even my teachers for helping me improve my life. Being thankful to me is appreciating everything God has given me. I think it means counting all of my blessings and being grateful for all the wonderful things in my life. Being thankful to me means stopping to realize I have a wonderful supportive family as well as really good friends who care and love me very much. I am glad to know I have so many wonderful and loving people......

Why I Write

...“Why I write/Difficult reading" Writing. One word, unlimited stories, tales, memories and also; stress. I struggle with both a mental and medical disability. This makes it so much more difficult to do everyday activities let alone something that takes long-term commitment and focus. I struggle very much when it comes to writing, reading and pretty much anything that has to do with concentration. When doing an assignment for class, for example; homework, my severe anxiety kicks in (although I suffer from it 24-7 it hit’s the ceiling when stress is involved.). I have to not only understand the work that has to be done I then have to read, re-read, look up, ask questions, attempt to understand, and re-read as I go to try to answer any questions I later have. I never knew about this column setup before and truthfully I am shocked to find that it does actually help. When reading I used to highlight, underline, keep notes or truthfully skip over words or sentences I couldn't comprehend or just couldn't pronounce. I was very lazy in my younger school years and pretended like certain words, definitions, or sentences were not important and could be skipped or omitted from the readings I was working on. I later found out that I was wrong and it was my downfall in certain assignments. I also struggle from a learning disability that I just recently found out about which also makes it frustrating when it takes hours to do an assignment that takes others minutes......

Why Am I Here

...Why am I Here? The decision to further my education was made long before I completed high school; however, at the time I did not have the resources at my disposal to achieve my life goals. In conversations I had with individuals that I surrounded myself with I realized that furthering my education should be a top priority. The decision was made to join the armed services which had a huge impact on my life. Not only did the rigors of military life provide me with the discipline that I would need to succeed, but it would eventually avail a litany of resources thereby enabling me to pursue select long and short-term goals such as purchasing property and building a home. Over the years I’ve been motivated by an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and by living vicariously through family, friends, and their college experience(s). Along comes the Great Recession; a period in our history that continues to impact every hard working American and the global society. The unfortunate events leading up to the recession and the subsequent implosion of the economy, if you will, forced me to seriously ponder my future. Why now? “Why not?” would be the easiest way to answer that question, but the more obvious answer is the fulfillment of my goals. You see I never gave up on them I just chose another route. I envision a better quality of life following successful completion of my degree program that will not only affect me but family and friends. I presume that more opportunities will present......

Why I Want to Be a Teacher

...Nurses, and Professional football players all have in common? They are all dream careers commonly listed by elementary school students. When I was in fifth grade I remember coming home and informing my grandmother that when I grew up I was going to be a teacher. As many parents do she responded by asking me why, I enthusiastically responded “I want to be just like Mrs. Higginbotham and teach people words like nincompoop!” To this day I have not changed my mind. My reasons have matured from being astonished by vocabulary but my goal hasn’t. In hindsight I always liked to teach. I was the oldest sibling and turned our hallway into a classroom. When I was older I loved tutoring younger children. I was largely inspired by Mrs. Higginbotham. She taught me many things. She showed me learning could be fun. She taught me that no goal was unattainable. She created a lifelong interest in literature. As a teacher she tried to find something for everyone, even those students who already claimed they hated school. I wanted to be able to create the type of learning environment that she did for other children. As I grew I had other significant teachers who helped me cement the idea that I wanted to be an elementary school teacher. In high school I realized that all the teacher I considered truly good teachers had all the skills I wanted to learn. I wanted to be able to inspire students and work with them like many of my own educators had with me. The best teachers......

Why I Am in College

...attending College? Ever since I have been attending college all I hear is all my professors ask, why we are attending college? I have thought about it really well. At first I was attending college to please my parents. Then I had a baby and as she is growing and time passes by I see that economically everything is going up. In reality I know why I am attending college. I am in college to improve my economic status, be an example for my children, and to achieve my life goal of being a petroleum engineer. As I was growing up, I seen my parents struggle in paying bills. At times we would have our light cut off and be running extension wires from our neighbor home to ours in order to manage, until we had the money for the bill. I also recall asking for things and my mother saying, Sorry sweaty we don’t have enough or we can’t afford it. Now that I am a father myself, I don’t want my children to feel the burden I felt just because my parents weren’t financially stable. Don’t get me wrong I had a wonderful child hood but there were moments that I wish I could have a certain object. I just would like to provide for my children and still have a little extra in my pocket just in case of any financial instability or purpose. The second reason I am attending college is to be a great example for my children. Neither my father nor mother attended College or graduated for High school. So far I am the only one who has graduated from high school and I want to be able to graduate......

Where I Stand and Why

...Assignment 4 – Where I Stand and Why There are different attitudes and opinions to assimilation. In the text “Where I stand and Why” by LaToya Powel, some different attitudes to assimilation are expressed. The text is about LaToya and her family’s assimilation in New York City. She’s interviewing her grandfather who migrated to New York City from Lumberton, North Carolina, in 1957 to get a job and a better life for his family. Her grandfather, Franklin Powell, and his wife Shirley Ruth Powell assimilated because they were forced to it. All the work was in white America, and if they wanted a job they needed to adapt the culture. The only concern in his life was to work so he could get a better life for his family, and he didn’t think about the forced assimilation. He gave his children everything that the white people had so it would be easier for them to fit in because it meant a lot to him. English was also very important to him, and he got mad when his family didn’t speak correctly because to have a conversation with corporate white people would be the survival in this world. LaToya has another point of view on assimilation. She is against it, and she doesn’t think that anyone should conform others culture. Everybody has their own identity, and nobody should be forced to change themselves. She wants to retain who she is. The white society has a huge influence on the way African Americans are living. African Americans don’t have the same rights as the white. By way......

Why Did I Return to School

...There are many good reasons why I chose to go back to college, despite it took me 12 years after graduating High school to make that choice. For example, my children are the number one reason why I am currently studying to get a nursing degree. Having an education opens many doors for me to succeed, and provide a better life for them. I want to give them the opportunity to farther their education after High School. First, I want them to be proud of me; Second, I want to encourage them to keep studying; And third, make them see that getting an education is the best decision, and they follow my example. I want to secure their future, by having a college found for both of them separately, so they do not have to worry about money for college. Another good reason is, to help lighten the Burden on my husband’s shoulders if work would slow down, or he loses his job. To go to college and get an education makes me the back-up plan to support my family. My husband is the only provider for my children and I, and I plan to change that. Furthermore, I want to make adequate preparations for our retirement plan, so my children do not have to worry about us, when we get old. One last reason is to make myself proud, to achieve a degree on a career I enjoy. Going back to school has been the best choice I made in a very long time, and all my reasons for it, makes it so much worth it....

Why a School Uniform

...Why a school uniform My opinion about school uniform is that it is a good idea to have a uniform. If school students are poor and rich, you can not find difference between them, if they use school uniform. School uniform can also be good because many students tease others about how their clothes are. I think, it is very good that many schools have uniform. An other advantage for the school uniform could be that you do not always have to change your clothes every second day. Some students will not be mobbed because every students have the same uniform, but boys and girls have difference uniforms. The disadvantage for the school uniform is that parents can not afford it. Sometimes the teacher can be confused, because all students have the same uniform. It might be good if the pupils in our school wear school uniforms. Primarily, the students will see much better with school uniform than the normal clothes, they use everyday at school. Secondarily, any student in the school can not be embarrassed with their clothes. But it is also difficult for the parents to pay the price the school uniforms cots. I am sure that some students and parents are not on this agreement, but I am also sure that some students and parents are with the agreement as described above. The students will be equal with other children, who are rich. Of course, I will wear a school uniform, because I want to try something, I never have done before. Because the students in England use uniforms, I always...

Why I Love Pizza

...Home / Miscellaneous / Why I Love Pizza – A Personal Essay About My Favorite Food Why I Love Pizza – A Personal Essay About My Favorite Food Posted by: I Dream Of Pizza in MiscellaneousNovember 21, 2008 Ever since I was a little boy, pizza has always had a special place in my heart. From pizza day in the school cafeteria to pizza parties at sleep away camp, there was nothing more exciting than when that cardboard box was opened to reveal a round pie with eight delicious slices waiting to be devoured. Early on I learned that everybody eats their pizza differently. There are those who fold their slices in half, those who eat their slices with two hands, and those who (dare I say) like to cut their pizza with a fork and knife. Some people soak up the olive oil with a napkin, while others don’t mind a greasy slice. Some people like the crust, while others live for that first bite. Some people decorate their slices with spices, while others like it plain. Nearly any ingredient can be put on pizza. From pepperoni and anchovies to barbecue chicken and pineapple, every pizza pie is like a unique work of art. Every pie is a different shape and size. There are thin crust pies, deep dish pies, and everything in between. There are pies with different cheeses and tomato sauce, or even pies with a completely different base altogether. Growing up in the suburbs of Washington, DC there weren’t so many great options for pizza. Ordering in from Domino’s and Pizza Hut was a weekly......

Why Online School

...Why I chose WGU for my degree? WGU employs a competency-based model where a student may earn college credits based on their knowledge, work experience and skills. In order to speed up your preparation for each course, you would typically take a pre-assessment test of a specified domain of competency, based on the result of which your mentor would work with you to create a study strategy to prepare you for your final test. This way you would save precious time by not having to study through the entire course but just focus on areas of weakness. For subjects like Project Management and Quantitative analysis, which I felt I was well versed with, given my current job experience and math skills, I decided to directly take the pre-assessments for each course. After doing really well at these 2 pre-assessments, I did a quick review of the material and completed and passed these 2 exams totaling 9 credits in under a month. Based on your competency levels, you could achieve higher number of credits in a given 6-month term. You can also have qualifying credits for professional certifications transferred at WGU thus reducing courses to complete, and hence the time to graduate. WGU’s tuition payment cycle is based on a “6-month term” where you pay flat fee per term. Within a term, you are allowed to take any number of courses that you can realistically accomplish in that time frame. This means depending your abilities and time for study, you can complete additional courses and attain......

The Reason I When Back to School

...My Reason for Returning To School When I returned to school, I knew I wanted to become a law enforcement officer. Ever since, my cousin Rona Lisa was the victim of a domestic violence relationship during her marriage to a very jealous man. She could not walk down the street and speak to any other man without him thinking that she wanted to be with them. Life was hard enough, but after they had a daughter it seem to get worst for Rona. The abuse had gotten so bad that she had to be hospitalized from a beating that left her covered in bruises. Finally she have had enough and decided to leave. But it was not easy at all for Rona. Her husband Robert could not let go. He had stalked her for months. Seeing her run from this man and could not get help from any law enforcement agencies, she hid herself and her children in different places. When he found her, he threatens her to come home or he would hurt anyone that would help her. So she went back to him to keep him from messing with her family and friends that provided her help and a place to stay. Even when the police was called out, they stated they could not do anything because she would not press charges because of him threatening her. They told her she would have to say what he was doing for them to help her. Until then he was not breaking any laws. She was told, she would have to come down to file for a restraining order. They seen she had bruises on her, but they did not take that into account. Because of too many......
