"Why is Sex Fun? is the best book on the subject I've read. This lively exploration of our sexual heritage offers fascinating reading for anyone curious about why lovers do what they do." -Diane Ackerman, author of A Natural History of the Senses "I am so jealous of Jared Diamond, for he writes with such an elegant simplicity! Here, he takes a loot at the endlessly fascinating topic of human sexuality His convincing arguments should persuade xm that there are very special reasons why we evolved to use sex for recreation as well as for procreatim whereas most other mammals are denied that pleasure.... It is a great little book, by one of the worlds foremost biological philosophers." -ROGER Shohl Professor of Physiology Monash University Australia "Once again Jared Diamond provides us with answers to questions we may never have stopped to ask, but wish we had. In this long essay Diamond explains that recreational sex, while not unique to humans, is a rare behavior in the animal world. Above all, we learn, sexual activity divorced fron procreation is not only part of what it is to be human, but the very crux of our evolutionary success." -Bettyaxn Kevles. author of Naked to the Bonn Medical Imaging in the Twentieth Centnty The Science Masters Series is a global publishing vonture consisting of original science books written by leading scientists and published by a worldwide team of twenty-six publishers assembled by John Brockman. Psy of Sex

...it’s around age four and five when children begin understanding (generally) what makes them a boy or a girl. This means this developmental period is even more important for parents to cherish and foster, not restrict and forcibly shape. “The greatest difficulty for children and adolescents who are homosexual or who identify with the opposite sex is the social pressure they feel to behave heterosexually, and the discrimination they may experience because of their sexual orientation or gender identification. This may isolate them from their peers and even their family, and their self-esteem and self-confidence can suffer terribly in the process. A large proportion of teenage suicide attempts are linked to issues of gender confusion and to perceived rejection of an adolescent with a homosexual orientation.” (Schor) Children at your son’s age play with toys of the opposite sex; they are discovering their gender identity. Some children just grow out if it and their gender identity is that as the sex they were born; then there are children who truly feel as if they are in the wrong body and their gender identity is that of the opposite sex. “Kohlberg's theory of gender identity development describes how young children learn to understand their gender, and what being that gender means in their everyday life. Kohlberg theorized that there are 3 stages to this process. Initially, during the early preschool years (ages 3 to 4 years), young children engage in gender labeling. Young......

Is Sex Casual

...Is causal sex bad for a person mental health? In this article Zhana Vrangalova explains how and why causal sex can be both good and or bad for one’s mental health. Almost every young person has at least one casual hook up under their belt yet it is still considered to damaging towards psychological well-being. She states in the article that scholar, health professional and the media all express concerns that hooking up leads to depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem. Most studies of casual sex as far as well-being go as such. They take people with at least one hookup and compare there well-being to people who have never had a hookup. These studies yield results that are all over the place. The hookup groups can have higher depression or lower self-esteem than the no-hookup group. This result is usually seen among women. Another possible result is the hookup group may have lower depression and higher self-esteem. This particular result is usually seen among men. Very often there may be no such different between the two groups. With such mixed results it can be often interrupted that the relationships between the two things you are focusing on in your experiment is not straightforward. When dealing with such as casual sex and well-being not all hookups have the same potential to harm or benefit well-being as well not all who engaging in these are equally affective both in a harmful or beneficial way. With this relationship there are individual, self-personal, and social......

...activities may be new to you. I have chosen my links based upon how welcoming they are to the merely curious. People who play with their dog, stay with their dog. Why do dog activities matter? Students and Sex

...Students and Sex As time passes, it seems as if the teenage pregnancy rate gets higher and higher, instead of decreasing. Some people inculpate it on how parents edified their teens when they were children. Others claim that the pregnancy rate is on the up because of the sex education curriculum that schools teach today. These parents feel that schools are sending the wrong message to their children. They feel that schools are teaching students that it is okay to have sex as long as it is protected sex. Some of the parents who are opposed to the current curriculum say that if there was a new curriculum that was based on the concept of abstinence and the cost of being pregnant, the teenage pregnancy rate would not be so high. With the current curriculum, schools are not teaching students about the urge of waiting to have sex. Instead, schools teach students about how to have protective sex. Even though schools teach students about protected sex, they do not remind students that there is still a possibility that they may end up pregnant. Even if they use condoms, or use birth control, there is always a chance of conceiving a child. Some teenagers are mature, and are able to think things through before they do something that may get them in trouble. On the other hand, there are teens who lose all of their common sense when their hormones arise. In fact, “Knowledge alone is not enough to change behaviors. Programs that rely mainly on conveying information about sex or moral......

Sex and Violence

...Miguel Mendoza Dr. Mc Fadden ENGWR 302 July 22, 2014 Sex and Violence Essay Lost Children The experience of a child growing up is meant to be exciting and fun. It is a time when children experience and learn about themselves and their morals by simply being a kids and having fun. To have one’s childhood forcefully taken away from them is inhumane, and unfortunately sexual, physical, and mental child abuse has always existed. Thorn is a technology task force made up of twenty technology companies including Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Twitter that lend their knowledge, time and resources to fight the sexual exploitation of children. According to Thorn, the exact number of child abuse victims is difficult to identify due to illicit nature of this activity, but it is estimated that there are 100,000 to 300,000 children at risk of commercial sexual exploitation in the United States and one million children exploited by the global commercial sex trade each year. Given these figures there are three questions that come to mind: Why does child sexual exploitation occur?; What are the consequences of sexual exploitation on the victims?; What can be done to stop it? According to NSPCC child sexual exploitation (CSE) is a, “…form of sexual abuse that involves the manipulation and/or coercion of young people under the age of 18 into sexual activity in exchange for things such as money, gifts, accommodation, affection or status.” A direct link has been observed......

Writing for Fun

...Research Writing can be Fun Remember the last time your teacher asked you to write a research paper on a subject of your choosing? You probably groaned and grimaced, wiped your sweaty brow, and gasped. Relax. Take a deep breath. This paper will show you how writing for a research paper assignment can not only be done easily, but be fun! Fun you say? How? First, pick a topic that you know something about. Do you like looking for sea shells when vacationing on the beach with your family? Skateboarding at the local park? Playing video games with your friends? Baking with your mom? Making money shoveling snow for your neighbors? Playing soccer or hockey with your team? Reading books? Riding your bicycle? I think by now you get the idea – choose something that you already know a little something about and enjoy. The next steps is to research that topic. So let’s take the example of collecting sea shells on the beach when vacationing with your family. You can approach the research from several angles. You can research the specific types of shells that are located in a specific region. You can research the area where you found the shells. So let’s say that you found a conch shell on the beach in the Bahamas. You can start researching conch shells. The first step to research is one you already know about “Google”. Type Conch Shell in the google search engine and here are just three of the many......

The Gift of Sex

...Abstract The purpose of this paper is to summarize and then critique Clifford and Joyce Penner’s book, “The Gift of Sex, A Guide to Sexual Fulfillment”. In the Biblical perspective section of the book, the Penners express that sexuality and sexual intimacy are a gift from God, intended for married couples, to symbolize the one-ness God desires with mankind. The physical dimension section breaks down the mechanics of the sexual organs and their response to sexual pleasure. The total experience section brings together the mechanics, God’s design for oneness, and techniques to explore in order to bring a married couple sexual intimacy and fulfillment. The Penners also discuss certain problems that may arise for a married couple in their sexual experiences and relationship. The last section of the book discusses the importance of enhancing the sexual experience in a marriage and suggests way to improve intimacy.   Sex is a beautiful gift from God to bring pleasure and intimacy to a married couple. In the book, “the Gift of Sex: A Guide to Sexual Fulfillment”, written by Clifford and Joyce Penner, the authors discuss in great detail five main sections that can lead to a more fulfilling sexual relationship with one’s spouse. These sections include the biblical perspective of sex, the physical dimensions of the body, the total experience one has, what to do when there are sexual problems, and how to enhance the sexual experience by inviting God into the marriage and......

Fun Home

... Alison Bechdel's Fun Home, appropriately sub-titled 'A Family Tragicomic', is a graphic novel style autobiography that revolves around the story of her complicated relationship with her father, and the realization of her own homosexuality. It is complex, intelligent and insightful. The story develops through the interweaving of Bechdel's memories of her childhood and the realizations she is able to make in hindsight. Bechdel challenges the concepts of gender roles, sexual orientation, and most importantly fatherhood through her own stories so that they may take on a deeper meaning in the end. Ultimately the question she aims to answer is: why am I am who I am? Secondary to this inquiry are related questions: how does a closeted gay father affect his daughter’s future homosexuality?  Growing up, Bechdel and her father both struggled with gender roles. Bechdel's refusal to grow her hair long and her reluctance to wear dresses, skirts, or jewelry were the opposite of her father's preference for the effeminate; gardening, decorating, wearing fine creams and colognes. On page 96 the author reveals that her older cousins called her “Butch”, a nickname that reflected her success at acting masculine. To her ‘Butch” was the “opposite of sissy… it was clear to me that my father was a big sissy” (page 97). As a child Bechdel was acutely aware of the breech in conventional gender roles that occurred between her and her father and she resented it, even stating on page 96 that......

Michelle Khalenya Shimoli – 640717. Njenga Joel Gichuhi. – 643203. LECTURER : Brenda Wambua. TASK: Semester Group 1 Term Paper. BASED ON SEXUAL ORIENTATION: SHOULD THE GAY COMMUNITY BE ACCEPTED IN OUR SOCIETY GLOBALLY? What is sexual orientation? According to the American Psychological Association (APA), sexual orientation is an enduring, emotional, romantic, sexual or affectional attraction to another person. Basically, Sexual orientation is about who attracts us. This attraction may lead to love hence marriage. The issue of same-sex marriage is an argument that we have heard of and have strong opinions on. We believe that homosexual couples should have the same marriage rights as heterosexual couples. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "Marriage is a basic human right. You cannot tell people they cannot fall in love." While he said this in reference to the marriage between races, the same can be said about homosexuals (Smiley, 2013). Who are we to judge who people get married to or not? Homosexuality, years ago, was unacceptable. Most gay people hid it from others who would discriminate the act. They married the opposite gender in order to live out a "normal" life. There were many instances of homosexuals being prosecuted and discriminated against to a point......

Why Sex

...Kenny Malki Biology March 22, 2010 Why Sex Sex plays an extremely intricate part in the past, present and future. Dating back to millions of years ago procreation has been a staple in the evolution of both human as well as non-human life. With-out procreation seemingly all things would not exist. Thinking back millions of years ago, it has been said that humans have evolved from animals. These animals did not just spring and grow from the ground like a weed. Rather they procreated; engaging in sexual intercourse and ultimately creating a new life. Since all things eventually come full circle, through procreation we humans have developed into what we are today. Forever keeping in mind that even today and for all eternity we humans will always be evolving. Depending on where in the world a person is an inhabitant from they will ultimately have physical character traits which distinguish them from aliens of that nation. This can easily be seen if one were to look at pictures of different people from different nations. Some examples of this might be hair color, eye color, bone structure, stature, skin color and the list rolls on. Putting the historical aspect of sex aside, sex makes the world go around. Sex is driven by the media and the media drives sex to the heights in which instill its power. People dress sexy, can be said to have sex appeal, are sexist, stereotypes though sex and gender, etc. Point blank sex drives people to strive to make more money, hold more......

Why Should Same-Sex Marriage Be Legalize?

...Mrs. Rangel 12/3/2009 I feel same sex marriages should be legalized because they want the same rights as heterosexual couples. I feel they should be able to have the same rights. Same sex couples should be allowed to marry in the United States. First of all, while it is a relatively new practice that same-sex couples are being granted the same form of legal marital recognition as commonly used by same-sexed couples, recent publicity and debate over the past decade gives an impression that civil marriage for lesbian and gay couples is novel and untested. Some cities have passed laws providing for same sex couples and heterosexual couples, who are living together without being married. To become domestic partners, the partners must register their relationship at a government office and declare that they are in a "committed" relationship. Domestic partnerships provide some but not all of the legal benefits of marriage. Some of the common benefits are the right to coverage on a family health insurance policy, the right to family leave to take care of a sick partner , bereavement leave, visiting rights to hospitals and jails, and rent control benefits (to the same extent a spouse would retain reduced rent if his or her partner died.) I don’t see no harm in a same sex marriage because they are the same person that they have always been the only difference is that they are in a same sex relationship. One of my best friends is in a same sex relationship and she is still the......
